Menewshans Online: 251 (8 members and 243 guests)

Why is everyone hiding their online status?
I feel like if we saw who was online we could probably drum up more activity here.
o 3o And like, ping specific people rather than an entire friendlist.

Anyone else have thoughts on keeping your online status hidden?

Kat Dakuu 11-16-2017 04:15 PM

I believe the 'guests' is actually part bots. It's people who aren't actually on this site. Could be people who are viewing the site as non-users who perhaps...googled something and came across a thread or embedded pictures in their results. The other part is probably bots rather than people hiding their online status.

monstahh` 11-16-2017 07:05 PM

I guess that could be true. I kinda just assumed we had a lot of lurkers because mene isn't that active....
But fair enough [sweat]

Kat Dakuu 11-17-2017 02:39 PM

Yeah. I don't think most people put the effort in to hide their online status so they can lurk. I know I don't. I could be wrong though.

Mageling 11-18-2017 01:55 AM

Hiding my status was WAY too much effort when I was a lurker. Bots seems more likely.

monstahh` 11-18-2017 07:49 AM

That paints a really grim picture...

Maria-Minamino 11-18-2017 03:22 PM

I hide my status. Some days I just don't want people to know I'm on. I'm antisocial in many ways.

ghostPastry 11-18-2017 06:44 PM

i don't hide my status, but i keep it open in a tab all the time, and if i'm meaning to reply to a thread, i'll sometimes leave that open for a day or two too until i'm ready to reply, so it looks like i'm lurking when i'm really not even on mene. [lol]

i'm surprised there are so many bots, but also not surprised that there aren't 200 people lurking on mene. you'd think if there were that many guests, more of them would sign up and actually post and make avis. :/

Kat Dakuu 11-19-2017 02:54 PM

I kinda wish the site wouldn't show how many guests because it needlessly gets people's hope up. [cry] the number is too high!

Mimmu 11-19-2017 04:19 PM

I always thought they were some random people playing the games :Dd I don't see reason why anyone would hide their online-status, I at least don't, but I'm not that active in the first place.

The Wandering Poet 11-20-2017 10:51 PM

That's a really small number.
I don't do online status but I don't know how long idling takes to log you out.

Kat Dakuu 11-21-2017 05:54 PM

I'm never logged out on this site so I didn't think mene ever logged people out for idlying.

Car'a'Carn 11-22-2017 01:58 AM

The bots must really like to view the event forums. There's always at least 30 "people" viewing the Events Archives XD

Yeah, that's super weird.
Maybe mene needs to tweak the way it counts members viewing topics? Perhaps reduce the time so we don't have inflated numbers and people going? "wtf where is everyone posting? WHY IS THERE NO ONE HERE?"

Suona 11-25-2017 06:22 AM

I was looking at those numbers today, too, and I am extremely sad and concerned on how few users we've been having online :( It does not paint a pretty picture for mene's future, and I am quite concerned. I really love mene, and I will be remiss to see it close down

Kat Dakuu 11-25-2017 05:59 PM

But compared to other avi sites who have such a feature, mene is equal to most others so...
Actually there are quite a few who almost never have more than five online so I don't feel as worried?

The Wandering Poet 11-25-2017 06:15 PM

I think part of it is that some of us witnessed the 2008-2010 massive burst of activity way back when. So now menewsha is drastically slower.

I don't know if this can be done? But I'm not a coder XD I'll bring it up with the coders that do know however :P

Well too, It is Thanksgiving. I'm usually on for at least an hour a day and over the last 4 or so days, I've only had time to pop on for a minute or two because of Thanksgiving and cooking and shopping and babysitting XD

Suona 11-26-2017 05:16 AM

It reminds me of ernya just before it closed that. I was sad to see that site go. :(

That is true, Carn. We didn't have anything going on on here for Thanksgiving, either, so people probably didn't see fit to get on when they have other things going on. I was very busy Thanksgiving day, and been shopping the following days [ninja] but I stop in frequently to check if people have posted. Just not many people posting to respond to

Yeah but I assume they have working trades.
We have people wanting to riot or refusing to spend more money until they are fixed.

I'm honestly not sure why people are rioting so much. The staff say they are working on the issues and are aware of them. They still communicate with us so it can't be helped. Moving servers bring a lot of issues and it takes time. It's not like they straight up abandoned us. They wouldn't move servers in the first place if they didn't plan to continue to build the site.

Wow, only six online

monstahh` 03-26-2018 02:12 AM
