I like to roll warm Russian Tea Cakes in powdered sugar so it melts the sugar and becomes "frosting."
If I roll them again, the sugar on the outside stays powdery and the BF inhales it and chokes every time he eats one! Haha!

hummy 12-23-2017 07:50 PM

I don't think I have ever had a Russian Tea cake

Mikio 12-23-2017 08:09 PM

Russian tea cakes sound good. I've tried regular tea cakes and I love them. What's different about Russian ones?

hummy 12-23-2017 08:26 PM

I said in my head, they're made by Russians, Da =3

This made me laugh out loud and the other people in the room looked at me funny!

I would have to look at a recipe for Tea Cakes to see what the difference is...
*I will return after I confer with google*

So...it appears that Tea Cakes are a flat, buttery tasting cookie much like shortbread.
Russian Tea Cakes add finely chopped pecans or walnuts to the recipe and after the dough is chilled it is shaped into balls before baking.
The balls do not flatten out when baked nor are they allowed to brown in color.
Then they are rolled in powdered sugar while still warm, then rolled again after cooling.
The recipe I use comes from a 1948 Betty Crocker cookbook, but the same recipe is available when searching Google for Russian Tea Cakes.
The only difference is that the online recipe doesn't tell to chill the dough.
I find it difficult to roll the dough into balls if it isn't chilled.
They are very yummy and don't last long before they are eaten up!

Mikio 12-24-2017 02:22 PM

Huh? our tea cakes sure aren't flat :l They're also shaped like balls
This is what I mean

They sound good! Would love to try them or make them sometime [yes]

Nephila 12-24-2017 07:02 PM

Mmm cookies!

hummy 12-24-2017 08:11 PM

My Nonna makes these little pepper cookies. I know they sound gross but they are so good they have just a little bit of bite to him and the little baby chocolate bits and it's a brown blackish round cookie it's delicious. I really really want the recipe.

Nephila 12-24-2017 10:29 PM

omg! I think I know what you mean. They are good. :D

That might be them minus the aniseed. And I'm pretty sure she put some cocoa powder in it and little teeny chocolate bits

hummy 12-25-2017 08:13 PM
