"I can't waltz into Heaven with blackened wings." He said as he gently pulled away, still not very comfortable. "Come on." He said as he led her back to his room.
Looking a little hurt, she followed; she wasn't used to be pushed away.
Diah reluctantly left them, not wanting to but knowing Carol didn't want him around just then. |
"Don't look at me like that, you know why I don't want to be too close, and that's nothing to be hurt by." He said guiltily.
She rolled her eyes. "Are you so unbelievably driven by your sex drive you can't even have my arms around you?" She moved in front of him, stopping him. "Look, I'm not going to let you do anything with me. I have enough self control and contempt for sex that there won't be any worries about me losing myself. The only way you'd be able to do anything is if you did it against my will, and if that were the case, you'd have a lot more to worry about than just my purity. Besides..." At this point, she looked away, obviously uncomfortable. "I...I trust you not to."
Jin rested a hand on her head, "It's not just that, I'm trying to go a bit easy on you're little angel friend, he's not terribly happy about this, you know?" He didn't bother to mention the reasoning behind Diah's emotion.
"Well Diah isn't here right now," she pointed out. "And since when do you care anyway? Before you couldn't push his buttons enough." She did feel bad about Diah, but thought that it was just a dissapointment in himself for failing at his task. He'd get over it, she figured, and it wasn't like he had anything to worry about anyway. She was still going to maintain her angel status, so he hadn't failed entirely.
"This is a little different." He said with a small shrug as he entered his room. His wings spread wide before resting lightly at his back while he got a few things out and started preparing them. "Carol, may I have one of your feathers?" He asked with a small smile.
"Why do you want one of my feathers?" She asked, spreading her wings slightly. "Won't that hurt?"
"Just a little, I don't need a large feather." He carefully selected a small one and lightly plucked it. "Thank you..." He set it on the table, placing a glass over it as he got the rest of the items set up. He perched himself on the table and spread his wings. The feather seemed to melt into a white liquid under the glass, half of it followed a line of ink to his right wing, the other to his left, where it spread slowly over his feathers, it's movement taking several minutes for each feather.
She kneeled in front of him, resting her arms on the table and her head on her arms. "You do this every time?" She questioned, tracing patterns on the table with her finger.
"Not usually. This way's faster though. It requires the feather of a willing angel. There aren't that many willing angels in hell."
"What do you do usually? I can't imagine any way being slower."
"Sit still while Sue paints each feather then waiting a month for the kind of paint to set to the feathers enough that I can use my wings."
"...Okay, that's definitely longer." Dropping her eyes, she suddenly seemed uncomfortable. "Say, um, Jin...speaking of Sue...she mentioned something about...sex" her voice dropped a few levels when she said the word then raised again, "being different when a demon loved his partner. Is that true?"
Jin looked thoughtful, "The basic concept of Heaven and Hell is the separation of positive and negative. Naturally, an emotion such as 'love' would wall to the positive realm, and therefore very uncommon in Hell. Most relationships are based purely on 'what can I obtain by being with this person?'. People sleep around, and there's no real commitment most of the time. When demon's do love, it's frowned upon, and sexually, well, it's a bit more awkward because you know when you wake up in the morning, they'll still be there. You can't just do what you want and leave them."
"...So it's not as good?" This concept clearly confused and bothered her. "Is there any benefit to falling in love down here?"
"It is, as long as it isn't done down here. It would lack the emotion that would make it meaningful rather than 'just for fun'."
She sighed. "I'm confused." Taking a different route, she rather abruptly asked, "Do you like kissing me?"
"Why are you asking me these kinds of questions?" He asked, a bit at a loss.
"Why didn't you answer that one?"
With a small sigh, she stood and moved to sit crosslegged next to him on the table. "I don't know...I'm curious. And now you can't run away when I ask." She smiled, a light blush coating her cheeks. "I guess it's really leading up to...do you like me more than the other girls? And I don't mean just personality-wise." Though there was no way she was going any farther than cuddling and maybe some kissing, she had to admit it was a bit flattering that he found her attractive. And with all these other girls around, she couldn't help but wonder how she ranked up against them. |
He grinned maliciously, "I think I'll let you wonder about that one for a while."
She glared and hit his arm halfheartedly. "Don't do that. Just tell me."
"You should already know."
"Well tell me anyway."
He rested a hand on her cheek, "You already know~!"
