Bad Neighbors
So I moved into this apartment a while ago and I've been living there almost 6 months now, but we only just got neighbors about a month ago. They are terrible! They play country music at early morning, they fight so loudly they could wake the dead, they party till 5 in the morning, they get drunk off their asses and on top of that they steal my newspaper!
But the other night was the worst of all. I was going to bad around 2am and was halfway asleep and I heard them start fighting. So I rolled over and tried to ignore it. I finally fall asleep and wake up to four furious pounds. At that point my roomy in the other room was running to check if I was ok and I was screaming for her to call the police. Apparently the guy talked himself out of the situation, cause the cops left not much after they came, but now they freakin glare at us every time we go into our apartment. They seem like the vindictive type and now I'm worried they will make our lives even more miserable. Anyways... Has anyone dealt with nasty neighbors? Whats your story? Any tips for two poor little girls who have to? Do you think that we should have handled the situation differently? |
I think you were right to call the police. They shouldn't be able to intrude on your lives as they do. Have you considered talking to other neighbors and seeing if it bothers them too? If they do, you guys should all get together and try to do something about it.

I agree with lillita on that, check if anyone is having the same issues or at least the noise issue. I recall when I lived in apartments we always get the folks who smoked and drink a lot and end up dumping it on our little space of a yard/patio, the grass around us was nothing but cigarette buds and glass(sometimes broken) ugh.

They are pretty shmoozy with the other neighbors right now. Seems like most of our complex are party people. I'm totally fine with that on weekends. But seriously.. Middle of the week parties, not cool. Our manager doesn't like them much. They have apparently allowed someone she evicted to live with them, and they have been leaving their stuff on the picnic table right next to the playground. Apparently one of the kids got ahold of a pack of chewing tobacco they left behind from one of their parties.
She wants us to call the cops when they get like that. If there are enough piled up, she can evict them. |

I thought my neighbors were bad but your's sound just absolutely horrible! :gonk: I don't understand how anyone can behave like that, knowing they live RIGHT next to someone. I mean, I like to party hardy until the wee hours of the morning, but drunk or not, I always tell me to shush or keep the music down. I always keep it under control, even if decently! Its the thought that counts? xD I can't make EVERYONE be as quiet/loud as they should be. Anyways, my neighbors are kindasorta bad. Other then tempting me with the smell of delcious food cooking, they sometimes blast mariachi music with 8AM being the latest, on weekends at least, and then throughout saturday AND sunday! And on weekdays, after 3, they blast it some more. Sometimes they put it soooo loud, that it's like we're the ones playing it. I just don't understand how they can stand that loudness in their tiny ass apartment. @[email protected] |
I don't have necessarily bad neighbors....but there are some issues. One obsessively mows his lawn and tends to wander on our side which makes our grass look terrible....the other neighbor doesn't mow take care of their yard at all....hiring a service to do it for them....and their bushes near where I park my car are terribly overgrown..... Small complaints really xD Maybe you should have knocked on their door to tell them that in the future if they make that much noise that you will not hesitate to call the cops. I kind of think it's not fair to just spring the cops on them without first letting them know that they are disturbing you. So that when you do call the cops on them, they are fully aware as to why you did so.....because they truly must be ignorant to the sheer amount of noise that they are making. Just naturally loud people. |
We haven't had any actual confrontations with our neighbors but I dislike many of them for various reasons. Like the neighbors with the screaming, running kids. Or the neighbor with the horrible sprinklers that are constantly making a mess on my car. Or the other neighbors who keep hogging the community parking space...
Not to mention that I'm not allowed to hose my car down on the street, wash my cat's litter box in our garage or do anything basically since we have to uphold 'decorum'. =__= I hate them all on principle. |
I only have one set of neighbors on my left side. The ones on my right side were old, and were like my grandparents but recently passed away.
But anyway.. The ones on the left play loud Cajun/country music. They smoke and drink a lot and have guests over a lot who drink and smoke too... Bleh. They are always outside talking real loud and have an annoying dog that tries to dig under my gate to attack me and my cat. Because of all their smoking, one of them has cancer in the lungs. THEY ARE NICE, I just don't like their habits since it will most likely rub onto their neices and nephews, etc, since their family visits frequently. I guess I don't really real alcohol and drugs, though. *sigh* But I understand your situation since people that lived across from us were the same. x__x And once I had guests that had a band.. And you'd just hear the base of the music and it'd vibrate our house. The music wasn't even good! |
I hate my neighbors. I saw this topic and I now have to rant about my neighbors.
First lets see. Neighbors on the right-- Threw a dead goat in our yard and said my dog killed it, so I had to get rid of it. I had evidence that they did it, and everyone knew it, but my parents didn't want to cause trouble. Also, they said that, even though my dad was in the back at the time, with a whole house in between, that when my dad was mowing the lawn, a rock broke their window. Oh, and the window had been duct taped up for months. Now, neighbors on the left--They threatened to shoot my dog, and I was sexually abused by their son. 'Nuff said. And the people that lived there before they moved in--poisoned our dog and told us to plant trees, and when we did made us cut them down. Neighbors in the front--They have just been rude to us all the time. N.s front right-- made us get rid of our other dog, saying it got their dog pregnant. Ns front left--Made us get rid of our cats, saying they beat up their cat and ate their cats food. front left left left-- threatend to shoot our dogs and cussed at me. front right right-- killed our dog. right right-- threatened to shoot our dogs. front left left left left-- has an annoying little kid that back talks me all the time. And those are the ones that are just on the EASt side of the street. There are no houses behind me. Our dogs do absolutely nothing. They stay in the yard and dont even yap like the stupid neighbors dog did. And our cats never left the house either. My advice: Kill the neighbors. No, just joking. In your situation, I don't know what I'd do. Actually, I don't know what I'd do that would get rid of the problem without them hating me or without getting me in trouble. I'd probably scream at them, or play rock really loud in the morning (except that that would anger the other neighbors too.) |
One more thing to add... Sorry if I start to go off topic.
And then there are also the little annoying neighborhood children that don't get off the road when you're driving, until you honk at them. People get out of their car and fuss at them telling them they'll get run over all the time and they just shrug it off, acting as if their is no such thing as a drunk driver. Anyway, good luck with your neighbors! D: You should try confronting them, maybe -if they aren't the violent type.- |
how about a guy who ices down his neighbors driveway so he would slip and fall, what a jerk

Wow...that's a whole lot worse than my neighbors. I live in an apartment and the people above us were constantly walking around like they were stomping. They would move something above us at the worst time, I swear that it sounded like they would move furniture early in the morning just to spite us. x.x

Call your landlord too when stuff like that happens. The police might not be able to do much depending on the situation, but your landlord can boot them out for noise complaints if they rack up enough of them.
The neighbors in my last apartment were terrible, but also very good at blaming me for their crap. They fought and slammed doors until three in the morning - and the next day I'd come home to a noise complaint on *my* door. It happened two or three times and the landlord just didn't care that it wasn't me - and in fact was pretty angry at me when I suggested he stay late one night to make sure. Forgive me for asking him to do his job and all. >.< |

I'm from small town USA, closest neighbor you have is a mile away. I moved to Tampa, FL. We have guns, gangs, fighting, and loud music all day long. My down stairs neighbors are nice but very loud! I've complained to the apartment management and they didn't do anything. It drives me nuts hearing people slam doors all day and night, play music all day long (that sounds like the same song over and over), and sit on their porch yelling. |
Geez that sucks. I can't believe they're so rude to you guys since they should be really considerate since you guys were there before them. If it were me I'd glare back and it was the right decision to call the police because who knows what that guy was capable of.
It's bullshit that they steal your paper and are loud. ><; My only neighbor problem is we live in a duplex and for a couple months didn't have a neighbor...which was awesome because we didn't have to worry about music and stuff. Once our neighbor moved in we were polite, introduced ourselves, and kept the volume down. We soon came to realize he was a drummer and....at first not bad but when he randomly starts to drumming during the day...it doesn't stop till 3 or 4 hours later I kid you not. ><; Apparently he's in a band and they come over however many days to practice but on our side it sounds like the same damn thing everyday. He's not rude but we wish he'd figure somewhere else to practice with his members. ><; |
I think you did a good job to call the police, because my family had this neighbour and they did so many stuff to us, like when they were washing they're driveway, it came to our side! D< and they would cut the trees off that went into they're property but was ours. And they acted nasty to us too.
But maybe you guys can move somewhere else in the apartment? :3 |
And I thought mine was bad, but she's an angel compared to yours. We call her creepy neighbor lady, and she fits it to a T. She smokes like a freight train and the smell leaks over into our apartment via the shared wall. It's really bad in the winter time when she never goes outside and her apartment is all closed up. She comes over and asks you for something, and if you tell her no she continues to ask until you give in (I stopped giving in to her but the hubby just can't seem to do it!) The worst one was one day we were headed out the door to a doctors appointment for the baby and she came over wanting a ride to go pick something up. We told her no but she kept on staying over and asking until finally the hubby took her while my back was turned (I can't stand being in her presence when she's like that) We were late for our appointment and had to sit and wait because they took someone else while waiting on us. Ella was crying and fussy because she needed a nap (we had originally scheduled around her nap time). I get furious every time I think about that one!

Haahhaah I have had Many BAD neighbours..
Had ones try to run without paying the rent.. My dad blocked their moving truck in the driveway.. SO funny. Had a neighbour I babysat for... she would say she would be back at 11 then turn up drunk at 2 am.. while she was pregnant. D: My Dad went around and had a go at her because it was a school night and she said she would be back by 11. Well her bf was there and then he started going crazy at her for it.. My Dad had to step in and stop him from getting out of control. Had another neighbour that would hit his gf and get drunk at all hours. They had a baby in there too. Once he was screaming and smashed his hand thru the fence at 1 in the morning... I went outside and yelled at him to shut up or I would call the cops on him for smacking his gf around and damaging the fence.... I didn't hear a peep out of them after that. hahahaa well I have more... But I will leave it at that. |

Yeah, who hasn't ever had some annoying neighbors? Unless you live all alone.
Mine have a like for loud music and parties in the night. Not funny and they're in front, I pity the ones who live under or above them. And with the parties came alcohol, so they end in fights most of the time, so more noise. My neighbors are almost salvage. XD |
My neighbor used to be my bestfriend but because of his selfishness we fought. He had a crush on this girl who became my girlfriend though he was still in a relationship. Me and my girlfriend (now my ex) decided to keep it a secret. One day I decided to tell him the truth. He got so mad because he felt betrayed and there was so much drama that it even involved our cosplay group. The nerves, he already has a girlfriend and got so mad because his crush became my girlfriend. I won't go into details about the drama. He said sorry last July but I still hate him. I am still suffering from the effects of what he did.

Our next door neighbour leaves there dog mess in their garden!
It absolutely reeks! And they have the cheek to refuse to clean it up! One of their dogs also killed our cat. We called Environmental Health but they say that as long as they're cleaning it up there is nothing they can do... Even though they're NOT cleaning it up!! |

Oh, I feel for you. I have lived in an apartment building for about ten years now, and every single neighbor we have had {expect one} has been awful. They slam the doors, play loud music, and their kids are always screaming. One of my neighbors always stands out in front of the building spying on everybody....she is really nosy. I guess the only advice I could give you is to do what I do....try to ignore them and stay out of their way. I think you had a right to call the police. My mom called the police on some kids that were party/fighting in the parking lot a few years back. I guess some people just do not have any respect for others these days.
