Addina:.Same! XD It wakes me up if I'm sleepy, THEN it makes me sick DX

Jean:. Woah, that's a pretty neat thing to do. And it's amazing that you did it even with the box so close.

Heiyuu 01-08-2009 05:30 PM

My mother quit as her bar mitzvah present to my little brother, actually.

As for myself, I never smoked. Never will.

Jeannesha 01-08-2009 05:33 PM

Heiyuu... that's intersting.
I had felt that I'd never smoke, because my Dad smoked like a chimney.

In college though, my roommate smoked. My starting just kinda happened.

My Dad quit cold turkey, because My Mom had a spot show up on her lung xray. She never smoked. It came from his 2nd-hand smoke.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 05:37 PM

Heiyuu:. What a nice present! Maybe I should use that to motivate my aunt. A gift to her children of sorts.

Jean:. Wow, I never really heard of a case of second-hand smoking before. I mean, I knew it happened, but never actually talked to someone about it. Were your parents surprised?

Heiyuu 01-08-2009 05:41 PM

Feel free to use that tactic. I think it was sneaky of the little devil to ask for that as his gift--he also got a stereo--but that's just me.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 05:45 PM

If sneaky keeps someone from smoking.. XD

Wow, jealous of that Stereo..

Jeannesha 01-08-2009 05:49 PM

My parent were very surprised. My Dad had always ranted that smoking was fine and that there was no such thing as 2nd-hand smoke - he felt it was all made up by the government for some reason. (He was very paranoid).

Luckily, the spot went away after a time. It wasn't cancer - but it was a scary time for us all. I'm convinced that it was the 2nd hand smoke that caused it. We were just lucky that it was caught in time.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 05:51 PM

Wow, that WAS very lucky. I wouldn't envy your dad when they both found out. Your mother either, but wow. After saying there's no such thing as that and finding out your partner was hurt because of it?

Addina 01-08-2009 05:52 PM

I also started smoking because my roommate smokes we are trying to quit together and aeri is having me quit cold turkey and its mega hard I really want one right now

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 05:57 PM

I can only imagine how hard it is. If it were me, I'd find my new cigar. For me it would definitely be chocolate.

Or.. a reward for every week you managed not to smoke?

Have a nice cup of tea... nothing soothes like a hot cup of earl grey

Addina 01-08-2009 06:12 PM

I wish I had some sugar ><

Jeannesha 01-08-2009 06:16 PM

Here's some two-flavor fudge (butterscotch and chocolate).
I had once piece left over from Christmas... you can have it.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 06:16 PM

XD I never put sugar in my tea. Don't know why, but I seem to get along just fine without it XD

Addina 01-08-2009 06:18 PM

I love sugar in my tea

Jeannesha 01-08-2009 06:25 PM

Sweet-n-Low. The pink stuff. For hot tea.

Ice tea, I drink the Crystal Lite Peach ice tea.

For some reason, I like the chemicals better than sugar in my tea. Strange.

Heiyuu 01-08-2009 06:48 PM

Since my dad's diabetic, I've been tending toward Equal rather than sugar lately.

jecynecy 01-08-2009 06:50 PM

Good afternoon.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 06:54 PM

Oh, Sweet-N-Low! That's what I use on my coffee. I don't drink it often, but when I need it, it must have sugar XD

Good afternoon, Jecy ^^

Diabeties is serious stuff.

My Dad had it but didn't take insulin.

My Mom has it, and it has caused dementia... totally erases her short term memory. At least it isn't alzheimers... she remembers us kids, and won't forget us.

The short term memory sure makes interesting conversations on the phone though...

Mom: "What are you doing today?"
Me: "Just hanging around online"
Mom: "That's nice."
Mom: "So, what are you doing today?"

She's so sweet... but she thinks I never call her, cuz after I call, she forgets I called.

Luckily though... that type of dementia doesn't happen very often. There are lots of people with diabetes who manage just fine, as long as they watch what they eat and keep their sugar levels consistent.

(I've been reading a LOT about it on the internet)

Addina 01-08-2009 06:57 PM

thats really wierd... I have never heard of that happining

one of my best friend's has Diabetes

Heiyuu 01-08-2009 06:59 PM

Personally, if you're interested in diabetes, I have to recommend a couple of books. Piers Anthony's Killobyte and Pete Hauptman's Sweetblood. The latter's the best vampire teenage diabetes goth book I've read in ages.

Piers Anthony the scifi writer? I'll have to go see if I have that.
(I think I have most every scifi / fantasy book known to mankind).

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 07:04 PM

Aw, sorry to hear that happens to your mom. But as you said, at least it's just the short-term memory and not the long-term >_<

Oh, books~ I must note those down.

Heiyuu 01-08-2009 07:06 PM

Oh, really now? You and I shall get along. Have you read Spider Robinson? Robin Hobb? And I'd call Piers more fantasy than sci-fi. At least in more recent times. Though Mute was good and Sci-fi-y.
