I'm more of the Isaac Asimov, Ben Bova, David Brin, Greg Bear, Orson Scott Card type for scifi. Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars/Green Mars/Blue Mars series is also great.

Mercedes Lackey (Valdemar stuff), Anne McCaffery (dragons) for fantasy.

Have you ever read (I'm gonna massacre her name) CJ Cherryh?
Her Foreigner series is the absolute best for covering First Contact, and how to get along with people from other planets who are "hard-wired" differently from humans. Their instincts are totally foreign to us, so it takes a special person to communicate with them.

Gads, I've got hundreds of books... The Science Fiction Book Club just loooves me!

Lackey? Card? Asimov? Oh, dearie, when they gave me you to adopt, they chose well.

Yes, you spelled Cherryh correctly, though it always looks wrong to me.

Book lovers~ :heart:
Can you guys list some of your favorite titles for me? I'm going for the 50-book challenge but I don't really know what to read ;_;

Heiyuu 01-08-2009 07:58 PM

Oh, fun.

•The Farseer books by Robin Hobb--at least the Assassin trilogy and the Fool's trilogy.
•Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey.
•Anything by Spider Robinson, especially the Callahan's books and the Stardance trilogy. If you read the Callahan's books, you don't have to go in order, but read at least one book before Callahan's Con.
•The Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony. Though I'll admit that the last, most recent one, irked me.

Eric Van Lustbader has a good trilogy, The Pearl.
Tanya Huff's The Keeper Chronicles has several good books as well.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 08:11 PM

Thank you both~ I noted them down as fast as I could. I'm exited :squee:

Heiyuu 01-08-2009 08:20 PM

Lessee. Any others I can think of?

• Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow, and the rest of the Bean books
• Chrestomanci books by Dianne Wynne Jones
• Anything by Lynne Truss if you crave non-fiction

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 08:24 PM

oh~ I've been meaning to read all the books after Ender's Game *_*

Some good non-fiction would be nice, too. Thanks again ^^

I second the Valdemar series by Lackey... although I absolutely love anything that she writes.

There are quite a few... start with the Queen's Own series... I think the names of the books are: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall. They are actually in the middle of the "world", but I think they're the first ones she wrote, and they give a very nice descriptive start to the whole Valdemar world, the Heralds, and the Companions.

Lois Bujold also has some good books... Vorkorsigan's Game, etc.

And for pure scifi....I also absolutely love Elizabeth Moon...she's from here - Austin, TX area.

Apart from scifi/fantasy, my absolute favorite author is Jane Austen.
Yup... Jane Austen. I've read all her books numerous times. Love the way she phrases things. You can download all her books from Gutenberg

OMG Jane Austen~
I've only read Pride and Prejudice ;_;

I want to read Sense and Sensibility >w<
I like the way she phrases things too. There's a certain charm to it.

Mr. Darcy :drool:

jecynecy 01-08-2009 08:41 PM

Did anyone see the new Jane Austin movie? I was wondering if it was any good.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 08:46 PM

I haven't DX I'd like to know if it was good too ;_;

Mr Darcy indeed....

Have you seen the A&E version of Pride & Prejudice? Colin Firth as Darcy...
yikes. I melt into his eyes everytime I see it.

I love reading Emma also... didn't much care for the Gwynneth Paltro movie of it though.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 09:02 PM

I haven't seen any of the Pride and Prejudice movies ;_;

I really need to watch~ X'D

How is it, as an adaptation?

Jeannesha 01-08-2009 09:10 PM

The A&E version wasn't really a movie... it was a 6 hour series.

You can get it from Amazon, I think.

As far as adaptations go, it's one of the best and most true to the book.

The 2nd best is the BBC production. It's a 3.5-4hour series. I've got a VHS of it. Guess I'll have to look for a DVD version of it.

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 09:21 PM

oh~ I hope they're easy to find >_<

Jeannesha 01-08-2009 09:43 PM

I don't know if these links will help, but try:

http://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudic...450781&sr=1-12

That one is the A&E version.

Also:

http://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudic...450863&sr=1-20

That's the BBC version.

You could also try this Emma...it's the an A&E version and I liked it better than the Gwyneth Paltro version:

Hopefully the links work...

MurasakiCrown 01-08-2009 09:45 PM
