Rae had only taken a few steps off the porch when the glinting came to a stop suddenly, and she paused and peered into the darkness. She could make out two silouettes, both definitely men. One with the back to her had long dark hair.. Krad maybe? She couldn't recognize the other at all. But seeing as she couldn't clearly make out either, the girl with the smart and loud mouth was at least smart enough to know not to go demanding why big burly men-type people were on her property while she had no weapon and not much clothes on.
She slowly took the steps back up to the porch and up the stairs. Once on it she headed quickly to the doorway, slipping through she ran off up the stairs and directly to the only male ocupants door that she fully trusted, knocking rapidly on it. "Misha Misha! Let me in!" Rae didn't exactly wait for the request to be accepted, she tested if Misha's door was lock and burst in all pouty. "I know you're mad but there's people on the lawn!" |
Misha's eyebrows knitted together when he noticed another figure appear from the shadows, but he nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard pounding on his door. He turned to see Rae bursting in and gave a brief smile at Rae, he wasn't upset with her so she got no glares from him when she burst through his door.
"I know... one's Krad, though I don't know the other.." Misha said not bothering to enter his room from the balcony. He knew she would find her way to the balcony herself. |
Rae closed the door behind her, not wanting to make any noise in the house that might wake their guests. And Misha was right because Rae made a beline for his side to peer out off the balcony at the people below. She leaned into his shoulder glad he wasn't mad at her, that helped put all of her attention on the people outside.
She had been worried because people had come out of the darkness before, drunken idiots from the local bar that had stumbled way outta their ways home were the usual, thought it didn't happen often. But Rae's real fear was that it was Brad, her most recent ex-boyfriend. They're break-up had really emphasized the word breaking as it had been violent both verbally and physically. "You don't? Oh phew! I thought it was maybe Mr. Psycho. I was kinda hoping it was, and maybe Krad would bite him and get rid of him for me." Rae smirked devilishly at the idea. |
Krad's sneer broadened at the man's usual disregard for other's questions, unless it was a question that he was interested in. Well, Krad would just have to make sure to capture his interest, then. Krad pushed the tip of the blade of his nodachi against the man's neck. A thin trail of blood appeared as the blade nicked the skin.
"I'll ask you one last time, Instructor. What are you doing here?" The man lost the look of control on his face for a moment, but regained it quickly. "Isn't it obvious? I brought my class to this small town for a field test. I was going to grade them on their silence and hunting skills. It was quite a surprise to me to find that you were here as well. What a coincidence! It's not too late for you to return with me. Imagine the surprise that the elders and the king will have when they see you!" By this time, the female had drawn close enough to get a better look at Krad. Her red eyes shined with awe as if she were seeing a living legend or something. "This is Kradnathgil? This is the one that you've told us about in class? Can I taste his blood? Please, Instructor, let me taste his blood!" The man turned his eyes to look at the female that was pleading with him. "No, child. You don't want to bite this one. He is also half vampire, as I said a moment ago. You know quite well that it is impossible for vampires to drink from other vampires unless they are either elders, or those of the royal family." The female actually seemed to pout, but she didn't move back to the cover of the woods. Krad ignored her for now, focusing on the man at the tip of his blade. "I can't believe that you're standing there acting like we're old friends. With the living hell that you've put me through, you think I'd actually return? You made sure that I was beaten within an inch of my life on a daily basis. I've lost track of the number of times that you've had my bones broken. Not to mention the number of times you had me strung up and whipped. You made sure that I was starved of blood all the time, just short of sending me into a blood rage, so that I would be too weak to fight back." Krad lowered the tip of his nodachi from the man's throat as he spoke to him. "Oh, let's not forget how you slowly and brutally tortured and murdered my life mate in front of my eyes!!" |
Misha turned back to the scene below, now that there wasn't anyone banging on his door he could hear the voices of the two then three people - however rather muted. Misha frowned as the conversation between Krad and the one he referred to as 'Instructor' wore on, specifically at Krad's words. The frown deepened even more at the last line, a sharp intake of breath caught in his throat.
Misha glanced over at Rae, pushing any thoughts away from the forefront of his mind but rather allowed himself only to wonder what she made of this. |
Rae wrinkled up her nose with a frown and remained leaning into Misha's arm. Misha felt more like her big brother than anything else, and she didn't like that more people were coming out of the woods now. Nor did she like any of the words she caught being crossed between the supposed instructor and Krad.
She reached up and squeezed Misha's arm lightly though she glared out into the darkness at that figure speaking to Krad. "Fucking asshole." |
Misha took some comfort with the small squeeze of his arm, a small nod of agreement was all that Rae got from him - even if she didn't see it. Misha's amber eyes returned down to the scene before them though his mind was still someplace else a bit. Fighting back memories that even Rae didn't know about.
He was glad the night was cool, the night air helped relax and distract him. His arms on the cool banister pressed into it more to bring small amount of pain until the fighting memories subsided and he could focus on the scene before them completely now. |
The Instructor gave Krad a friendly smile as the tip of the blade that was against his throat started to lower. That was a good sign in his mind. If he chose his words carefully, he might be able to convince Krad to come back with him. All he had to do was feed Krad some candy-coated BS to continue to lower his defenses. That should be easy enough.
"Oh, come now, Kradnathgil. That was an unfortunate necessity. She was distracting you from your training, and she wasn't the right one for you, anyway. Why, look at what you've become. You're as perfect as possible, all because you were able to concentrate on your training. You should be thanking me. I am the one who made you what you are today." While Krad had indeed lowered the tip of his nodachi, it wasn't for the reason that the Instructor thought. Instead, Krad was simply choosing a different angle of penetration for the blade. Krad gave the instructor a guttural growl as he shoved the blade of his nodachi into the Instructor's lower abdomen, right around the navel. The blade easily pierced completely through the Instructor's gut and came out through his back. Krad wasn't done yet, though. Keeping hold of the hilt of the massive sword, Krad lifted the Instructor off the ground and then shoved the blade through a nearby tree with a large trunk. Krad kept shoving the sword until the Instructor's back was against the trunk of the tree and the hand guard of the hilt was against the Instructor's stomach. Only then did Krad let go of the hilt of the nodachi. Krad had heard numerous gasps coming from those still hiding in the woods as well as the female that had been standing near Krad and the Instructor. The female was just standing there, staring in shock at what had just transpired. Krad gave a smirk at the man pinned against the tree as he spoke to him. "...why don't you hang around a bit... Things are about to get interesting." The female finally came to her senses and charged Krad. What she hoped to accomplish, Krad wasn't sure. But Krad easily dodged her charge as he grabbed her right wrist with his right hand. He twisted her right arm behind her back and pushed her against another nearby tree. She had tried to use her left arm to stop herself from hitting the tree, but all that accomplished was her left arm getting pinned between the trunk of the tree and her body and Krad pushed his left hip into her back, pressing her against the tree. She was completely helpless now, where Krad still had the use of his left hand. Krad used his left hand to grab her hair and pull her head over to the left. He held her in this position as he spoke to the Instructor and let his fangs extend at the same time. "Here's a bit of information that I bet no one has told you yet, Instructor. I may be a half breed, but my father is the King of the Vampires." Krad leaned forward and sank his fangs into the jugular vein in the female vampire's neck. By biting her there, he could damn-near drain her before anybody else hiding in the woods came to their senses and were able to reach him. |
Rae frowned at the continued banter. But when Krad suddenly lunged with the blade into the other person and dug him into the tree, then started fighting with another, well Misha found nails digging into his arm for a second from a startled girl. But the relaxed and Rae didn't hide here eyes away squimish at seeing a fight, she wasnt' that type of girl. Not that she could really see blood or all that in the darkness by the woods they were fighting in, but she could tell they were fighting.
"Um.. should we help him??" |
Misha flinched slightly at the nails biting within his arm, his eyes looking startled at the sudden lunge and then the ensuing fight after the instructor was pinned to the tree. He looked at Rae when she suggested helping, he looked at her rather dumbly.
"Um.. we don't know how many are there.. and all of them are vampires.. I fear we'd be only a hindrance than help.." Misha said remembering that Krad had gained strength enough to break Rae's cuffs after only one pint of blood taken from him. "We'd only make them stronger as they fed on and killed us.." |
The Instructor's eyes went wide with horror as he heard Krad's words and watched as Krad bit into the neck of the female vampire. Krad drank deeply as the blood of the female vampire rushed out of her pierced life vein. By the time the other vampires in the woods started to rush towards Krad, he had already nearly drained the female vampire. Krad pulled away from her neck and tossed her weakened body to the ground. Krad reached up and took hold of the hilt of his nodachi, which was still pinning the Instructor to the tree, and looked him in the eye.
"Your reign of torture ends here, Instructor." Krad yanked his nodachi out of the tree and the man's body with one quick move. Before the Instructor even landed on the ground, Krad had turned and severed the female's head from her body. Instantly, the female's head and body flared like a fuse as it turned to ash. Before that process had completed, Krad spun around to face the Instructor, slicing his head off with a single swipe. The Instructor's body flared up and turned to ash just like the female vampire. Krad's eyes and hair had changed back to their normal colors of red and silver at this point while he faced the remaining vampires who were still rushing towards him. They were too slow for Krad's taste. If they were going to take this long, then Krad would just have to take the fight to them. Krad reached out with his left hand and took hold of the scabbard of his nodachi and pulled it out of the ground. Scabbard and nodachi in hand, Krad charged the remaining vampires. He leaped into the air and brought the blade of his nodachi down on the head of the nearest vampire, slicing him completely in half from head to groin. Krad shoved the tip of the scabbard through the face of another nearby vampire. Krad then spun in a circle as he swung his nodachi, slicing the heads off of three other vampires with one fell swoop. Krad dispatched the rest of the vampires in similar fashion. By the time the last vampire had fallen, not much time had passed at all. Krad was able to completely destroy all of the vampires that had come charging out of the woods within two minutes. Krad looked around as the body of the last vampire had turned completely into ash. Satisfied that it was over for now, Krad changed his grip on the scabbard in his left hand and shoved it into the ground like he had earlier. He slid the blade of his nodachi back into the scabbard and pulled the scabbard, now sheathing the nodachi, out of the ground. Krad headed back to the table where he had set his short swords and retrieved them and the length of cloth that was wrapped around his nodachi earlier. Krad took a moment to survey the area. Other than several piles of ash littering the yard, nothing seemed out of place. The ashes would soon be carried off by the breeze, leaving no trace of the earlier fight. |
Michi was sound asleep, dreaming of a song being played by the wind in the trees, when her dreams were interrupted by the sounds and smells of a fight. Michi sat bolt upright in her bed, feeling a nervous sweat on her skin which caused her night-shirt to cling to her skin in a sticky fashion.
Michi had never been a big fan of fighting. But, not because she was useless in a fight. In her younger years, before she'd found peace living as a human she'd been involved in several fights. But, there was very little about that time that she could clearly remember. It was all a blur to her memory of blood and pain. The sounds still haunted her dreams some nights. So, when she awoke, sweating and panting, her first thoughts were that the sounds had been a mere dream. It took her a few minutes before she'd calmed down enough to notice that the sounds were actually coming from outside. Michi crawled out of bed, and walked over to her door. Michi took a deep breath before stepping out into the hallway, and from there she strode to the back door. Michi paused at the back door as she saw Krad jam the scabbard of that freakishly long sword into the ground. It wasn't until he'd started to walk back toward the house that Michi finally opened the back door and took a few steps out onto the back porch. Michi looked around the back yard, spotting the piles of ash, here and there. And even one or two that had maintained some of there shape, drifting away on the breeze. "ah-...." Michi's breath caught in her throat. She fought with herself over weather she really wanted to know what had happened out here or not. On the one hand, this was her home, and whatever it was that had happened felt like a threat to her. But, on the other, she feared it would be something that might drag her back into a life style she had long ago abandoned. |
"Oh yeah. Vampires..." Rae bit her lower lip and his hand went lax on Misha's arm, falling away when the first body caught on fire. The sudden orange and red blaze reflected all the way back into Rae's mortal gray eyes, and she moved out further on the balcony. More and more bodies started lighting up like firecrackers in the night, and now Rae could clearly see the last bits of the fighting taking place. She could clearly watch bodies being skewered and heads flying off in opposite directions of the bodies they'd once belonged to.
She gripped the edge of the railing and leaned out to watch as the last blaze died down. Her eyes followed the vampire that was now only a slightly clearer silhouette again with a new glint of silver in the moonlight doing something with his weapons. There was a slightly bloody, dangerous, and armed vampire heading back towards their home now. Rae gave a groan and rubbed the side of her temple. "Either he makes sure that mess is cleaned up in the morning or he's being fined for damage of property." |
Misha watched the fight in silence now as body after body turned to dust in the wind, it held a rather morbid beauty for a moment to Misha. The boy shut his amber eyes and shook his head rather silently when the battle was over. He turned his back to the scene to look at Rae with a quirked brow.
"If anything that ash will help the plants grow if it doesn't blow away in the wind.." Misha said but a thought occurred to him and made a face. "Granted that it's not toxic to nature. That wouldn't be a good thing then.. Lydia likes her flowers." |
Not noticing Michi, Rae, or Misha, Krad turned around again and looked up at his balcony. He lept from the ground and over the railing of his balcony, set all of his blades down, and sat with his back against the railing as he rubbed his temples. He hadn't expected to run into the Instructor here. Krad wondered if the Instructor had mentioned to anyone where he was taking his students before leaving the Moonlight Coven, the only home Krad had known before he left it all behind. Knowing the Instructor and his "better than thou" ego, probably not. But, there was always the slight chance that he had. Krad would have to be more aware of what was going on in the town from now on.
Krad leaned his head back and stared at the moon as the past that he tried so hard to bury deep inside himself started to flood his mind. He remembered the hell that he went through for centuries, he remembered his training, he remembered his lost love and he remembered how he lost her. |
"That wouldn't be good at all. Lydia's gardens really spruce up the place, bring in business." Rae gave a thoughtful nod, still holding her head in one hand. What the heck was she talking about? Cleaning up lawns and preserving flowers? Hadn't she just seen a massacre before her eyes? Granted it was to creatures that had spoken of coming to kill in her town, maybe her whole town for all she knew.. maybe the people in this inn. Everything was suddenly feeling very surreal, was this what someone felt like when they were in shock? That was a very ironic thought and Rae suddenly gave a half laugh at nothing, then swiveled suddenly and headed back for the door.
"I think I need to go to bed. We'll clean up in the morning, night night Mish!" She sounded very chipper, eerily chipper as Rae usually wasn't flighty over violent things. She could have a manical laugh or be loud and brash about it, but she wasn't peppy and chirpy sounding like she was now. She let herself back out of the room, closing the door behind her, but just stood there a moment outside Misha's door, listening to her own intake and exhales of breath. |
After cleaning up the mess in the game room, Lydia and Lily had headed to bed. Lily was exhausted from actually having to lift a finger to help her sister clean up. She hated cleaning! She liked making messes by cooking, sewing, decorating, but hated cleaning up after herself with a passion. Yet, Lydia's big glistening pink eyes had coaxed her sister into helping her clean the mess.
They laid in bed together and quickly fell asleep once the job had been completed. |
Michi stood on the back porch for many minutes, in stunned silence. She watched the bits of ash, some of which still showed a faint, blinking glow. A testament to the life that had once inhabited the charred mass, which now floated gracefully on the night's breeze, leading toward the ocean.
When Michi finally stirred she noticed that the yard was empty once more. She was unable to tell how long she'd been standing there. But the chirp of the crickets told her that it was late enough for her to still get some sleep before the sun rose. Michi turned and made her way back to her bed, where she succumbed to sleep almost instantly, unaware of just how tired she'd been. |
Misha bade Rae good night and with a last glance out to the yard below with a small frown to his lips he entered his room locking his balcony window for the first time since the last storm. He didn't know what he was locking it against.. the lock was barely strong enough to keep the window closed during a storm, never mind a vampire raid.
He pushed his foolishness to the back of his mind and he shed his pants and slid into bed for the night. |
Rae finally made it back to her bedroom for the night, locking the door after her, and went straight to her bed. She slid in between the covers in her bikini and grabbed the body pillow slid along the length, hugging it to herself as she stared at the darkness.
Her alarm was going to wake her up in a little bit because she knew she had to be up for breakfast before the clueless kindly old lady houseguests were out of their rooms. |
Krad finally came out of the mental flashback of his life and blinked his eyes. It wasn't going to do him any good to mope about the past. He grabbed his swords and stood up, then went back into his room from the balcony. Krad shut the door leading from his room, but he didn't bother to lock it. After all, it wouldn't do any good to lock that door anyway. He set his swords on the desk in the room and stripped off his clothing. Krad decided to take a quick shower before he tried to figure out what to do next.
|
Michi awoke with a start, sitting up in her bed. She had been sweating again...
Michi rubbed her eyes and pushed the blankets back as she swung her dainty feet around to land softly on the floor. She looked up, and into the darkness of her room, then over at her alarm clock. She seldom used the alarm, yet it's digital numbers glared red numbers into the darkness of her room, telling her that sunrise would come soon. Michi groaned, and smoothed her hair back as she headed to the bathroom to take a quick, cool shower. |
In the morning Misha woke early, with a sigh he even got up when he did. After a brief shower Misha pulled on black jeans and a red muscle shirt, a black studded collar finished the look aside from the armsocks he decided to leave in the room for the moment. Leaving his hair down and putting on only a light layer of make-up he headed downstairs as silent as possible. He knew most of the staff and tenants would be asleep at this hour and he didn't want anyone screaming at him for waking them.
Downstairs in the Kitchen he began his hobbies that only happened when he needed a rest from thinking and worrying about things. Often a sign of depression, he preferred doing something rather than sitting around and moping. Even if it were rather abnormal. He began to mixing ingredients to bake together... there will be a lot of baked goods for the inn to last a few days.. |
Lydia looked over at her sister still asleep on the bed. She leaned over and pet her soft pink hair before heading out of the room to start on breakfast for the inn. Her mind calculated all the people that were present so she would be sure to make enough for everyone.
When she arrived in the kitchen she smiled at the sight of Misha in the kitchen already. The scent of his baking efforts causing a wonderful aroma that nearly gave her goosebumps. "Mm. I do love when you bake." When Misha was baking it was apparent what his emotions were. This knowledge lead Lydia to reach over and lay a hand on his arm once she walked over to the counter next to him. "Are you feeling alright?" |
Rae's alarm sounded like a little blaring horn in her own room and she rolled over hitting it with a groan. Sitting up she rubbed her tussled dark hair and slid out of bed, moping across the floor much like a zombie out of an old sixties horror flick to her bathroom where she climbed into the shower before turning the water on.
About half an hour later Rae emerged refreshed and a little more awake, and went to slip on some clothes for the day after appyling a little makeup and blow drying her hair. She slipped into her canary yellow bikini for undergarments, wanting the first chance at the hot tub she'd have for the day, and pulled on a pair of skinny blue jeans with a wide red belt and a cream colored blouse out. After securing most of her black waves pinned up onto her head in a high look save a few around her face, and a pair of dangling red earrings, Rae padded downstairs quietly. She got as far as front steps when she began to smell something good and knew either Lydia or Misha was up. Following the scent she crept into the kitchen she found both, and came up behind them sneaky latching her arms around each's waist, they got the benefit of a lazy hug as she leaned on them some. "Mmm... got anything breakfasty like a sticky bun or something cinnamony in there? And fresh coffee?" |
