toning up your body?

Is it okay to not change my diet and only exercise if I want to tone up my body a bit?

I'm trying to tone my tummy, I'm not happy with it currently, but I don't want to lose any weight! I'm very happy with my other curves.

if you guys have any tips on how to tone it up, please tell me.
I'm a beginner, and very bad at doing ab exercises, so I appreciate easy exercises :3 I have an exercise ball that I can make use of xP

You could try the hip hop abs video. There are exercises there which can be used to tone down the tummy. My mom tried it and said it's effective.

As for me, I am a thin guy but I have a beer belly. I use to drink a lot. Maybe I'll just hit the gym to get some abs. I am too lazy to exercise on my own.

hmm that sounds interesting.. o.o I'll try to see if youtube has one .. xP haha.

thanks for the tip!

On Youtube, Sparkpeople have nice exercise videos I've been doing for about a week now. And I've noticed big results already.

I would suggest you change your diet just a little, like add some more protein to build muscle and make sure you get some carbs for energy!

Aerobics, running, and core exercises help a lot on developing ab muscles.

Get an ab lounge and you should get like major results from that. =]

Well, I would say crunches... but I'm sure that's one of those ab exercises you said you're not good with :P I know I HATE crunches so I wouldn't blame you if you did too. Then again it's good to remember that even if you only do 25 or so and up them by 5 a day it's going to make a difference.

Another good one is to lay flat on your back and grab something sturdy... maybe underneath the frame of the couch or something? Just something to hold on to. Then slowly raise both of your legs together until they're pointing straight up at the ceiling. Once they're there, count to two and slowly begin to lower them until your feet are maybe three or four inches off the floor... that's one :P

Those are called leg lifts... they work really well. My old fitness trainer showed me those :) Also, if you wanted to try to tone up your sides you could always take the exercise ball or anything of decent weight and sit on the ground with your knees up in front of your chest... maybe five inches away? Then you can hold the item in your hand and twist from side to side, stopping for two seconds before you move to hold it. That one works as well.

What works for me is just do about 50 crunches after every time that you eat, but there is not guarantee that you will not loose OR gain any weight.

What I heard:
I was once going through a thread like this on another site, and I saw a user tell the following:
If you have a huge exercise ball, then lay flat on the floor, lift your legs and arms up and and throw the ball between your hands and feet with out letting the hands feet or the ball touch the ground.
Do it for 20-40 minutes per day, twice a day.
NOTE:
The following has been put in my won words, and has not been tried by me, I just heard it on some other site, and I though I should tell you.

thanks for the advices all :3 I shall see what Sparkpeople has.. :)

and yeah, I DO hate crunches. I'm just so bad at them and I think I do them wrong because they hurt my back
I've been doing those leg lifts too, but I don't have something to hold on like the coach... it just moves along with me xD

I heard it's not good to exercise right after you eat.. D: and I've tested that, it only makes me feel like puking xD but I shall see what I can gain from these advices :)

DON'T GO ON A DIET. Because once you start eating normally, your body will gain all the weight it lost when on the diet.

Continue your regular eating habits. Try jogging for at least a half an hour and do 25 crunches and 25 push-ups a day. Not too much effort, and you'll lose some weight. :]

.. I did say that I DON'T want to lose any weight, didn't I? ;)

so no, I'm not going on a diet, and I DO NOT want to change my diet.
I love food, and I love candy.

If you aren't going to change your diet, get lots of water. You're going to need it. Once you start to feel thirsty, you're all ready dehydrating.

I'm majoring in exercise science. You won't actually see any results on you abs if you don't do some cardio (walking, jogging, dancing, ect.) because if you've got a bit of belly fluff, the fluff will stay and your muscles will tone beneath it. If you're very lean, on the other hand, it is possible that it might work.

If you need some help deciding what's right for you, check out www.sparkpeople.com. Normally this is for people trying to lose weight and start a healthy lifestyle, but you'll also find it's an excellent resource on all types of exercise, including videos. Good Luck!!! :)

yes I agree with the eat the same, but work out more, the other option is to eat healthish but eat more and exercise more depending how much one is exercising, i eat 3 to 4 times as much when I am exercising ad I still don't gain weight, but that is cause I am burning all my food really fast.

Abunai Bijin 09-18-2008 09:33 PM

I would say it all depends on your diet, hah! Because even if you are skinny, it is good to eat healthy. And I don't mean like cutting out entire food groups, I just mean healthy, which isn't less of everything, it's just the right amount of everything. Also be sure to drink lots of water.

Anyways, I'd suggest finding a work-out routine that is both comfortable and targets the area you want to tone. A gym membership is always fun because you get access to all kinds of toys and have the opportunity to switch up your routine once in a while to target a different area.

Yeah, I'm sorry if this sounds repititive, but this is what I do and I've almost got a four pack (HAPPY DANCE!)

I started out doing ten sit-ups, ten crunches, ten push-ups and ten of these yoga stretches (whose name I can't remember, forgive me for that) before I slept and when I woke up.
As I got a little stronger, or rather after my muscles were a little stronger, I started upping the number to fifteen, then twenty, twenty-five...And so on and so forth until I reached eighty (where I am now!).

Now I'm not a stick, I do have a healthy appetite, but I'm quite content with the curves I have, as there's a difference between being fat and curvy.
^^
I'd rather be curvy then a walking board, and after seeing a bunch of friends at school just about kill themselves of starvation, I'm completely put off weight-loss.

And like others have said, dancing can help too!
Although I'm a closet dancer, meaning I'd rather be caught dead then caught dancing.
xD

Hope you find something that works for you!
