Swimwear.

See...this has been on my mind lately. I'm going to a beach party tomorrow, with this girl that I have liked....for well....forever. Anyways, and with beaches come well....a body of water, whether it be a pond, ocean, puddle, etc; And with that comes swimming, which sometimes leads to the removal of clothing and prancing about...half naked. (I'm a guy)

So, I'm rather uncomfortable about having her and others see me...well shirtless. Just a little afraid. I used to swim all the time with a shirt on, just because I hated not having anything on my chest.

So when you swim, what do you wear?
Do you like to swim? And do you like being a bathing suit?
...and have you ever swam with shoes on?

Joico 08-12-2008 04:40 AM

I have a two piece bathing suite. It's blue and black. The top is a halter top and the bottom is like a normal girl bottom.

In your situation, if I didn't feel comfortable going without a shirt then I would wear one... because if you feel uncomfortable the whole time you won't have fun. Personally I would rather be comfortable and have a good time :)

And When I was a kid I would wear water shoe at the beach because I was scared of seaweed. Rofl My dad use to carry me over it because I didn't want to touch it..

I freakin' love swimming! I go swim whenever I have the chance!
I wear a bikini with short board shorts to go swim. I love having not much on and letting the water hit my body LOL XD But you get the point hahaha.
I've swam with sandals on because I went to a waterpark and it required a lot of walking around to get to different rides.

You shouldn't feel as though you have to take your shirt off. If that's what you're comfortable in, then that's what you should stick by. Don't force yourself into uncomfortable situations just to please others.

Captain Xombie 08-12-2008 05:14 AM

I normally wear a pair of boardshorts with a rashguard.

Wynna 08-12-2008 05:16 AM

What's a rashguard?

Captain Xombie 08-12-2008 05:22 AM

It is like a t-shirt.
Mainly, surfers wear them.
They dry faster than regular shirts, though.

It's mainly like a swim shirt.

fl3ur de lis 08-12-2008 05:41 AM

Yeah, rashguards work for guys : D

And it's okay to ...expose yourself a bit;;
even though it seems uncomfortable at first ^^

You get used to it after a bit.

Like before...
I'd never swim without a shirt and board shorts on.
[I R girl, btw.]
but now I usually just go in a 2-piece;
unless I'm in the ocean. Because that ... just... doesn't work too well lulz~

raindroproses 08-12-2008 06:16 AM

I LOVE swimming! :) I usually wind up wearing a one piece swimsuit since I'm a little self conscious about my tummy though, haha. Doesn't stop me from going... my boyfriend wears a shirt when he swims, but he's a bit overweight and self conscious himself.

Just do what you feel comfortable doing... the key is to have a good time :)

Sweet Lime 08-12-2008 06:24 AM

I wear a bikini. Haven't been swimming in forever though. Last time I did it was in a gorge, and I just worse my underwear and a miniskirt haha.

Rusalka 08-12-2008 07:37 AM

I love to swim, really .. you can't get me out of the water. xD Considering I'm self conscious about my body when it's covered in clothes.. I'm not so much when I'm down to a bikini.

Though.. unless it's a short type bottom I would wear shorts to swim because I hate my hips. ^^; Other than that.. I've no problem with being almost naked around so many strangers that are also almost naked. (And some women basically are that much when it comes to tanning.. o.O)

a_shy_girl_1999 08-12-2008 08:00 AM

I love to swim but I hate bathing suits ... I wear them though because I want to swim and I don't like going into the water in regular clothes. But I love to swim because I like the water (especially when it's really hot outside) ... My bathing suit is two pieces, but you really wouldn't know because it looks like just one piece when together ^_^ ...

The only thing I don't like about swimming is that I get sunburned really easily ... and sunburns hurt O_o ...

Shoes? No I never swam with shoes on ... When I am at the beach, I like the feeling of the sand ^_^

jupiter 08-12-2008 08:10 AM

I live up in Alaska, and our beaches come with mudflats and frigid water.
Usually we're wearing wetsuits to jump into the water. There are a few lakes with some sand along the bank, but I'm not a fan of pond-water.
As far as what I wear on a beach?

Well, I was in Hawaii about a year ago, and I had a two-piece suit. My body isn't bikini-worthy, so I just had string bottoms and a sort of surfing shirt that looks a lot like under armor. I burn pretty easily, so the shirt helps keep my shoulders and back protected because I tend to go out into the deep ocean for long periods of time.
I've never been uncomfortable to the point where I would wear clothing in the water. As I figure, if you're having fun, who care's what you're wearing.
Or not wearing. ;)

I love swimming, but I hardly swim any more. I don't even have a bathing suit anymore because before yesterday, it's been years since I had time to swim. I wore a shirt swimming when I was younger because I used to get sunburned really bad, but I don't anymore. I like the type of swim suit with a skirt on it because I have this huge scar on my leg that I like to keep covered up. I've swam with all of my clothes on before when I was out camping because my sister pushed me in the river so I just kept my clothes on and swam.

icandiee 08-12-2008 12:36 PM

Well I wear my bathing suit and then I have a long t-shirt and shorts on, it feels more comfortable to me, it doesn't feel like I have clothes on me.
But i've never swam with shoes before o___o

Ebil 08-12-2008 01:17 PM

I don't swim anymore, as I found out I'm allergic to high concentrations of chlorine, it brings me out in nasty red bumps that bleed >.< Plus I don't like the idea of swimming in the sea.
I used to just wear shorts and a couple of times worn nothing at all, although that's not a good idea when you're illegally using a random hotel's pool at 2am and get chased out by security xDD
I've been in a pool once with shoes on. Elementary school graduation, they took our picture by the school on these bleachers, and as soon as photos were over we charged into the pool fully dressed o_o Not sure who's idea that was, but there were tons of soggy kids running around that afternoon xD Of course then we had to go hug all the teachers to say goodbye and thanks. I think that was why we got wet in the first place lol

We I'm usually in a bikini either way. I can understand a bit though, considering I used to do that. What I don't understand is, why you feel pressure about not showing your chest. As far as I know, I think it is mostly girls who criticize other girls who aren't in shape, either to their face, or behind their back. And, I love swimming so much, I begged my mom to put a pool in the backyard, so now I have one. XD. I like being in a swim suit, I think they are cute.
And, I have swam with what people call aqua socks, for water that has sharp objects on the ground.

Not terribly happy with being covered head to toe being pushed on everyone, can see it has it uses.

Strands 08-12-2008 03:59 PM

I'm sure you'll be fine.
(:

I never go swimming, I don't let anyone see any part of my body, apart from the face and hands.

diehly 08-12-2008 04:31 PM

I won't be afraid to lose your shirt girls arn't that harsh and if she likes you back she won't be to worried about what your chest looks like.

Mobius 08-12-2008 05:39 PM

I try and wear a shirt as often as I can when I swim. I hate having a bare chest, and I hate sunburns. Hey, wear a shirt, there ya go. x3
I love to swim though. All the time. I never get the chance, even during summer. D:
I HAVE swam with shoes on. x3 Your feet feel heavy when you do. D:

Sho-Shonojo 08-12-2008 07:01 PM

I was brave this year and bought myself a bikini. It's black with rainbow stripes. I love it so I feel comfortable in it.

I don't think you should feel pressured to take your shirt off. If you like to wear a shirt, than wear one. There's no problem with that.

Sagitar 08-12-2008 07:06 PM

I don't really swim.. I'm so bad at it! but I love the water though ^^
usually I just wear a bikini, although some might think I don't have the body for it.. and I have gained some weight now, so I don't know if I would wear a bikini anymore, but maybe after I've toned up my tummy a bit ;3

I don't even own a one piece swimsuit anymore, it was for the time when I was more insecure.

Kitten 08-12-2008 08:46 PM

When i swim i usually wear a bikini with shorts and a shirt D:
rarely i will swim with out a shirt but with my bikini and shorts

I've been dying to buy a bathing suit that covers my back and tummy D:
( personal reasons)
So i can actually be comfortable when i go swimming because I LOVE SWIMMING.
<3<3

Queen Fool 08-13-2008 01:08 AM

Usually a two-piece bathing suit of some sort, nothing too skimpy, but not too conservative either. I have a bit of a chunky middle (even if my arms and legs are good), so I try to hide that a bit, but I still like to tan my tummy.

I don't really care that I don't entirely have the body for what I wear. I think I look okay, and that's all I care about.

Long as it stays on in the ocean.

If I was going to a party or something, I'd probably put a rash guard on over my bathing suit, just to feel more comfortable.
