Caricatures
I just came back from CNE or The Ex (same thing, people call it different) which is sort of like an exhibition sort of thing. You will know of it if you live in Ontario. It's like a flea market in buildings but with rides and parades. I go like every year but I never do anything.
Today I had an urge to get a caricature very, very bad. My mom gave me $40 and I went to get one that was full body with background and colour. It had a Japanese theme to it with me in a kimono. (I was sorta disappointed that there is not much effort on the clothes). It cost $25 along with a $3.50 tax which went up to $28.50. I like the picture, it's very cute but my mom was so pissed off at me because it was a waste of money and she said that it didn't look like me at all. (Which was true in a way but I did request that the artist make me pretty there) Now, I am an online art collector. And I have received many beautiful and unique pieces of artwork of my own characters for free which should cost over $30 each if I was to pay. Since ink is pricey, I rarely print them out so I leave them on my photobucket with hope of one day I'll be rich and print them out. xD But here, I paid for something a bit much that was done less than ten minutes. I think it is worth it for it is memories and I will be able to frame it up. Except at the same time, I have this nagging feeling since money is not exactly what always come in hand for my parents considering that they work hard labour to earn money. So I'm like wondering if it is worth it... So talk about any of the topics discussed. Caricatures, value of money, art collecting, etc etc. |
Caricatures tend to be a lot more money than they're worth, in my opinion. I think they're cool though, especially if you get a good artist. Art in general tends to get a bit expensive at times. i also collect art online and am given a lot of art for free. I used to take a bunch of art classes and had a group of people where we would swap art, which was cool since we ended up with a lot of different pieces.

Cariacatures are supposed to be done very quickly, but it sounds like the one you got wasn't very good. If you're curious about a good caricaturist, I reccommend Onyxavia of Gaiaonline. She does good work.
Although I think it certainly defeats the purpose of getting a caricature if you want it to be "pretty". The features they give you are supposed to be exaggerated and noticeable, and it's supposed to be funny... but, whatever floats your metaphysical boat, I guess. As for art collecting, I can't say that I do. The only things I can think of are buying The Next Generation Of Manga Artists collection, and a couple of Amy Brown prints. |
It doesn't really matter now, since you already bought it. It's not like you can take it back.
The important thing now is that you enjoyed it, and that it's important to you. |
