Moving

So today I moved my room from the upstairs and into our finished garage. I'm having a terribly fun time with rearranging everything. To me, starting over with something new is just so refreshing. It also gave me a chance to clean up all my crap that I've accumulated. Moving all my stuff showed me how dirty my room actually was. There are dust balls everywhere. The only thing I don't like is that I have to sleep next to a door leading outside. It creeps me out. I'll probably be up every hour to make sure it's locked.

Discuss.
What are your feelings toward moving, be it to a different house or room?
Do you like changing everything when you move, or like keeping it the same?
Do you throw away a lot of stuff when you move?
Am I paranoid about the door, or is that normal?
Anything else about moving.

What are your feelings toward moving, be it to a different house or room? It depends. I will be moving into my own place soon, and I am pretty excited about not having to clean up after anybody else. But, like at the beginning of the summer they moved my out of my old room and now and am in a room about one quarter of the size I was previously in...and it has no closet to hang my nice clothes in.
Do you like changing everything when you move, or like keeping it the same?I do like changing things around, keeps things interesting for me.
Do you throw away a lot of stuff when you move?I always throw a s***load of stuff away. Papers I realized I don't need, trash that flew out of the trashbin when I wasn't looking, and stuff I decide I don't want anymore.
Am I paranoid about the door, or is that normal?I am the same way. Doors leading to the outside make me slightly paranoid. Actually any entrances into the house make me paranoid, especially since the window in my room had been used to get access to the roof.

Yosono 08-20-2008 02:44 AM

I like to move, mostly. I like going to new places or having new surroundings...and with the way my life has gone so far, moving lets me have much needed fresh starts and the chance to try things all over again.
I also like to change things...again, fresh surroundings keep things interesting and worthwhile.
I also throw tons of stuff away, it's easier than having a million boxes, and that stuff you just shoved under the bed, you realize you don't need anyway.
Finally, I'd be weird about the door too. O_O

I love moving! The thought of starting from scratch is very appealing to me. Change is always good, keeps you from going stagnant. I usually do toss quite a bit out when I move. You find a lot of secret trash spots that you didn't know you had when you're clearing out furniture. The door thing is normal by the way. It takes time to adjust. I had a hard time with a first floor bedroom and windows right there where people could potentially see in after having a second story bedroom for years. Doesn't bother me at all now though.

kerryfox 08-20-2008 05:04 AM

I like to move, mainly cause it is back to college every year so it is a good fresh start and I can spend weeks setting up my room so I like it, and if I am lucky getting new stuff like the desk and my fan army. I do end up tossing a ton as there is only so much I can fit in my dorm room but it does me good so that when i move out for good it will not be as bad.

I think your door paranoia is grounded...I would have about 30 or 40 locks on that thing and the dresser in front of it....>>;;; I have a window on the ground floor that I have to make sure is shut and locked at least twice every night, so I get that completely.

Sho-Shonojo 08-20-2008 05:38 AM

Yay, it sounds like I'm not a wuss. I was sitting on my bed earlier reading a magazine when I heard thumps outside the door. I almost ran upstairs and hid! I stayed strong though and it stopped eventually. I am sitting in my new room with my feet off the floor right now because I just had a spider on my desk and I have no idea where it went. DX I need to better seal the cracks around that door!

mypokemonseatcookies 08-20-2008 10:40 AM

I used to like moving cuz I love change and I dont really have much stuff so it wasnt a big deal. But Ive moved so many times in the last 2 years im sick of it. Itd be nice to settle for a bit

Rheks 08-20-2008 04:10 PM

I've never moved house, or country, or anything like that.
I have moved rooms though, it is quite fun rearranging everything and getting rid of old stuff (junk) which I had in my old room. I love my new room, it's quiet, nice and small.
I hate that it has carpets though. My old room has laminated floor, which was nice. But I shared it with my sister, plus she'd never keep the floor nice, it was always dirty. I was basically stepping on crap. It feels so good to have my own room.
Moving is fun. xD; [

edit: and about the door thing, I think it's pretty normal to be creeped out.
Sleeping near to an open door to outside would be.

I've moved around the house multiple times. I'm now staying in the same room that I had when I was an infant, which is right next to my parents' room. I can't complain too much; it's the biggest room in the house, has two beds, two closets, large windows, and there's an attic. I would like to move into the apartment located beside the house. That one has a loft.

I enjoy moving. I'm not frightened or nervous, and I can adapt pretty quickly. I spent a good amount of time in Seattle last summer living in a hotel. I've lived in a camper on vacation with five to seven other people for a year, so I'm good with just about everything and anything.

Claudia 08-21-2008 01:39 AM

Excited and scared at the same time.
Of course the main concern is how to finance it so these feelings are secondary.

One of my concerns if I manage to get my own place will be moving my approx. 20 yrs old fish in with me. I want them back, not sure if it's worth taking them. Maybe I should leave them at my parents house and let them die of old age instead of subjecting them to a three hours move to the coast.
Normally I would just re-home fish if there's issues. When I moved from my parents house I did put them up for adoption. Now....I've had them for SO long that I'm not sure I want to give them up anymore.

I'll be all alone in my new twon and if I don't make friends ( which I don't do easily)...Then I'
ll remain extremely independent. I don't want that. Things are gonna be hard and I won't be able to fall back on my parents if things go wrong...BUT then I guess if not now, it'll happen eventually. If I don't make enough money, I don't know what I'll do.

Sho-Shonojo 08-21-2008 02:35 AM

Don't worry too much about it Claudia. My brother is 25 and he still falls back on my parents. In fact, the room I just moved into was supposed to be my brothers room when he moved down here because he couldn't pay his rent anymore. He was called back into the army, so I have it now. Not sure what he'll do when he comes back, but he'll probably come back with money so he shouldn't have a problem.

I'm sure you'll make some friends in your new town, and well, if you don't you can always come back to us Menewshans if you just need someone to talk to. I don't think we could help you out with money though, seeing as all most of has is in pixels. X3

What are your feelings toward moving, be it to a different house or room?
I love moving. Even if I leave things behind. Means a new beginning. Though I'm not too fond if I have to leave a pet behind... Friends I can stay in touch with, pets I can't, special places can be someone else's, memories are mine to keep wherever I go.
As for moving rooms. Well. I've never had that experience but I try to move my room furniture around a lot.

Do you like changing everything when you move, or like keeping it the same?
Change everything around. XD New start, new layout. I move my room furniture around a lot to start off with (as I said before), I'm not used to things staying the same for too long since I moved a lot as a kid.

Do you throw away a lot of stuff when you move?
Not a lot no. Most of it goes to my younger sister...

Am I paranoid about the door, or is that normal?
Normal. A lot of people have that strange feeling about doors and openings leading outside. XD

icandiee 08-21-2008 09:45 PM

I haven't moved for a while, but it would be nice if my family moved to a bigger house with more rooms xDD

cherri-coke 08-21-2008 10:11 PM

What are your feelings toward moving, be it to a different house or room?
To me it really all depends. Changing rooms wouldn't be so bad, but moving all together would be terrible. I'd have to say bye to all my friends :'(

Do you like changing everything when you move, or like keeping it the same?
changing it up would be refreshing. That's probably why i move the furniture in my room so much

Do you throw away a lot of stuff when you move?
Yup. I've got SO much crap everywhere it's not even funny

Am I paranoid about the door, or is that normal?
You have every right to be freaked out about the door thing. I know i would. I mean there are some creepy people out there.

attackat 08-22-2008 12:09 AM

When I moved into my college dorm it was really hard. I ended up having to send most of what I'd brought back with my family becuase it didn't all fit :(
I'm very OCD, and hate change, so it's really hard for me to move. I was trying so hard to preserve my room in a new space, but I had a roommate, so I couldn't really do that. I do however throw so much away when I move! Two or three trash bags full every time, which is sad, becuase you never realize how much junk you have until it's in plain sight!

As far as the door, I;m terrified to sleep under windows becuase I always feel like something is goign to come in and do something to me while I sleep. I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same if I was near a door that led to the outside @[email protected]

Monstryk 08-23-2008 05:30 AM

I HATE moving.
Mostly because I've moved five times in the past five years.
The biggest move was moving from Venezuela to the US.
I just hate having to pack so much, and then having to unpack everything and organizing everything again.
Ugh.
Carrying big pieces of furniture.
Getting used to whole different place.
I'm fine right where I am. Hopefully we won't be moving much more anymore.

Morwyn 08-23-2008 07:34 AM

Moving...? I can only assume that those people who say that they love moving haven't moved a lot other than within the same town. I moved around a lot when I was very young. I've lived in four different states and a ton of different towns. I hated moving when it meant leaving all my friends behind, because it never was moving to somewhere nearby. I think there were only a few times that we ever moved and stayed in the same town, and that was never bad. One time we moved across the street and we just carried the kitchen drawers across the street and emptied them into the new ones :D That move didn't bother me at all. But other than little moves like that, it sucks! I hated leaving behind my friends and making new ones, especially because I am kind of shy.
Right now I'm in the process of moving again. I'm married now, and we have our own place and stuff, but we're moving. It's not so bad because we don't have that many ties left where we are and we're only moving two hours away anyways, which isn't bad at all.
I don't worry about keeping things arranged similarly, they just need to fit the room well, if that makes any sense. I think when you are having trouble arranging furniture in a room, it works well to make a scale model of everything on paper and move it around until things fit. I've done that lots and lots of times, and I think that works pretty well.
I don't tend to get rid of a lot of things when I move either. I just put all my stuff in boxes and take it with me. Maybe I'm a pack rat or something, but I don't like getting rid of things sometimes if I have memories tied to them, even if I don't use them anymore.
My husband used to move a lot when he was young too. We hope to someday settle down somewhere and never move again and not put our kids through what we had to go through with all the moving.

MistressVampFreek 08-23-2008 03:54 PM

I love moving, as long as it's not out of the city, so I can still go to my school and see friends. I love rearanging stuff, and having a challenge to try and keep stuff clean. Even though I like rearanging, i'm not very much of a clean freak. I'm very neat with personal hygine, but I can't keep up with all the messes that happen around me.

Sho-Shonojo 08-23-2008 08:19 PM

I see a lot of people have similar opinions as me when it comes to moving. I hate moving out of my home town. The last time I had a big move, I moved from Delaware to South Carolina. For anyone not knowledgeable with United States geography that's about a nine hour drive away from all my friends and my whole childhood. D:

I'm almost completely moved into my new room now. All of the furniture is down here and yesterday we put together a new wardrobe and all my clothes are here too. I'm actually pretty excited about the wardrobe because it's completely white so I can draw on it. I can't wait to start a masterpiece.

About the door, I've already gotten used to sleeping by it. I keep it locked all the time and I stay up pretty late so I pretty much pass out when I go to bed. The most annoying thing about the door is that the light comes in through the window and wakes me up in the morning. >.<

ewic santiago 08-23-2008 08:59 PM

I love moving to be honest, everything's new and I get to experience more things. The only thing I'd have a problem is moving too far away from my original point. I like change but not drastic change. I do clean everything when I move, I get sentimental sometimes and I'll save like little things once in a while but if something's junk then it's getting thrown out.

As for your door troubles that's a little weird but understandable. I'd be able to just lock the door once and be able to sleep. You'll probably get use to it eventually and won't think anything of it in the future.

Elwing 08-23-2008 09:28 PM

Lol @ your sig ewic xD

I hate moving. I realy do. Especialy when it's very hot outsite,
and you have to work in the house to give it a good look...

And I also hate it when my boyfriend invites people to help
like last time, people I know as his friends, touching my stuff. >_<
I have nothing to hide but I just can't stand that.

Moving from one room to another is fine. It takes effort, but isn't too bothersome. Now moving from one house to another is a pain in the ass. I know, i've moved several times in my life. Packing up all your stuff, keeping everything organized, loading and unloading furniture is all just stressful and really tiring. And then when you have moved there's that adjustment period and the hassle of unpacking all those boxes and rearranging that furniture. Helping others move isn't as bad but it isn't a Sunday in the park either. ... As you can tell, i'm quite negative about moving. D:<

I don't see how you could not change things around when you move. Houses have different angles and shapes and room sizes. But yeah, I do like to place things close by in relation to each other.

Quote:

Yes, lots of stuff. Sometimes it's much easier to toss something than pack it up. :B

Quote:

Am I paranoid about the door, or is that normal?
Yes... but i'm sure I would be too. ... Get a dead bolt.

bobqwertyuiop 08-24-2008 02:30 AM

well i'm moving 1500 miles away from my home and family to go to college, so i'm definietly a little nervous.
i'm not throwing anything away, but i can't bring a lot of what i own either.

`Aura 08-24-2008 05:23 AM

Moving is very fun, but it's just that I have only moved from houses and had only secure rooms, but on the other hand, at my grandmother's house, I have moved a few times like 3, and I have changed the style all the time, I used to put posters of childish things up since I WAS a child, but I'm sure that it was just a phase. Haha.

.ieatkitties. 08-24-2008 05:52 AM

I have never moved really, but I have helped my dad move several times
I thought it was fun. :]
Except when it came time to lift the heavy stuff, no thx.

I rearrange my room a lot, if that counts as the same thing. x]
