Eserel 07-07-2009 10:26 PM

imo used books are the only way to go

Cami 07-07-2009 11:08 PM

The problem, of course, with used books is that they don't actually support the author or publishing house.

Eserel 07-07-2009 11:19 PM

<too cheap to care>

Winter Wind 07-07-2009 11:31 PM

I don't even buy used books, I go to the library.
._.;

Suona 07-07-2009 11:49 PM

@ Ese - Yeah, I love used books, especially ones that are still in good condition
I went to a store that had a lot of used books in the back, and I bought about 4
I saved so much compared to what the original prices were

@ Cami - But this is recycling
Go Green! lol

@ Winter - My library in town has a horrible selection for books, and I dont like having a time contsraint when I'm trying to read

Eserel 07-07-2009 11:50 PM

@windy;;
i dont always read the books as soon as i get them
and i dont want to drive back to the library to return it
probably waste more on gas than buying the book

So I didn't get the book. I decided my personal financial crisis was too important to spend the 14 dollars on it : (

http://www.paperbackswap.com
Basically, any book they have is two dollars. Slightly more complicated than that, but barely.

Also, check the used books on Amazon.com. It can take up to a week to get to you, but it is well worth it with the price.
I never buy any book or CD new. xD WASTING MONEY.

Suona 07-08-2009 01:06 AM

Yeah, you can get amazing prices on Amazon
I love it
I tend to get a lot of my textbooks from there

Cherry Who? 07-08-2009 01:07 AM

I like paperbackswap because it helps me get shit I don't want out of the house. xD But I go to amazon if a trading site doesn't have it. :D

Suona 07-08-2009 01:10 AM

I tend to not be able to let go of books. lol
I keep a tight grip on them, and dont like to get rid of them or throw them away (blasphemy thing to do anyway)

Cherry Who? 07-08-2009 01:12 AM

Well, none of the books I want to get rid of are ones I've read recently. They're little kid books that I have absolutely no intention of reading ever again.
Books I've read recently or that are still relevant to my tastes, I do keep.

Suona 07-08-2009 01:15 AM

Ooh, I getcha.
I think we gave all my books from when I was little away to my little cousins

I wouldn't pay that much unless it was a really really amazing book that was hardcover

@ Seiki - Aah. Well, I myself dont care for zombies, but she loves them
She and her friends (she has a few friends that i'm not friends with) all believe in zombies, and love to read books involving them or watch movies with them

Well I think that with zombies, people are so stuck in the stereotype of them. That they're rotting man-eating creatures who do nothing but moan and try to destroy the world, but I've been surprised before. I found a really good fan-fic sort of story a while back that was amazing. The zombies were more like misunderstood super heroes. God, I don't even remember where I found that now. I'd like to read it again : (

I've been attempting to use the library lately. They never seem to have the book I want in stock though.

I think you guys are going to smack me for this xD But I found this book to be kind of like Twilight in a way that the zombies were so far off from the stereotype of zombies. They're not rotting or man-eating. They're regular teenagers who happened to die and come back, though not all of them come back. Its some strange phenomenon that's happening in the US (with two known occurrences in Canada). Anyways, they come back and then the trads (living) hate them because they're not natural and since they have no rights at all due to them being dead, it doesn't matter if they're killed (again). The first book in the series introduces them and gives the characters a cause to work for (peaceful integration). I'm interested to see where the series goes.

I love dollar clearance books. I don't find a lot of good ones very often, but I when I do I love them : )

party pooper. New books are nice! I like how crisp they are, and you know for sure that they're in good shape. Used books you have to be careful with.

I can't do that. I forget to take my books back and rack up a ton of fees.

I have the same problem with my library too. The selection is too small for my tastes. I have to go to a book store or order online from one. And like I mentioned online, I forget to take them back and rack up too much in fees xD

Suona 07-08-2009 01:33 AM

@ Seiki - I just dont care much for them, because my friend and her friends are obsessed with them and talk about them whenever they're around each other. And during the road trip she wasted almost all her money (that was supposed to last throughout the whole trip) in the first couple days just on books, most of which were death or zombie related. So that frustrated me, because she wanted stuff for the rest of the trip, but didn't have any money left, and kept wanting to ask us if she could borrow some.

Yeah, I live in a tiny tiny town, so our library pretty much reflects that
It didn't have anything good last time I went in there, but its been awhile

I can't bring myself to trade my books or get rid of them. I've tried that before and it made me sad. And then when I moved at the start of my freshman year of high school, I lost about half of my books and I've been slowly rebuilding my inventory. Not that it's really all that impressive to begin with or whatever because I don't really have a lot of money to keep buying books with, I do have around 130 or so books that I've read within the past few years of personal choosing. And probably 30 or so required reading books for school.

See, I can understand appreciating a specific kind of book, but obsessing over them isn't something that I get. I know people fall into stories and in love with characters and junk, but I think when it gets to the point where it has to be brought up every possible second its kind of annoying. Not that I wouldn't try something because someone I knew was like that or because it was popular though. I know people are all like "I won't read/watch that because there's too many fan-girls associated with it and I'm not going to bother with something that's that popular because of it". That's stupid. You're not giving whatever it is that they're being all obsessed over a chance.

Edit, by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHERRYPIE!

Winterwolfgoddess 07-08-2009 02:21 AM

You can find a lot of cheap used books on Abebooks.com
I use them to by Charles de Lint's books since they are too frickin expensive for my budget to buy them. xD

Seiki, I might have to use an extension on the next challenge. My cousins in Tennessee are moving this week and I have to leave on Thursday to go up there and I do not know when I will be back. x.x and I will not have internet most likely.

Suona 07-08-2009 02:22 AM

@ Seiki - Well, its because of some book about zombies that they read and they've been "researching" them or something. Now they believe that zombies are actually real, just not the types that we're use to from movies. And i'm not sure what else, I tend to block them out completely once they start up on the subject.

@ Cherry - :O
Its your birthday?

Seiki Nova 07-08-2009 02:41 AM

I get textbooks from Abebooks. They're good.

That's cool. Just let me know for sure. I don't know when the next round will start. Soon as I get all the judgings I guess, though that could be a while.

Suona, yeah, unhealthy obsession.

Donna 07-08-2009 02:42 AM

I get my textbooks from Abe/Amazon. I've gotten some for a couple bucks which is totally awesome.

Winterwolfgoddess 07-08-2009 02:43 AM

xD I do as well, and then I discovered regular books. xD

I will be sure to. ^^

Seiki Nova 07-08-2009 02:43 AM

yeah, I'm not spending 140 dollars on a textbook if I can get it for thirty.

Donna 07-08-2009 02:45 AM

And then you can sell it back to the college for more than you paid. B]

Winterwolfgoddess 07-08-2009 02:47 AM

Or less. xD
If you get imported books from the same company, it is even cheaper. xD

Suona 07-08-2009 02:48 AM

@ Seiki - I agree, but i'd never tell them that
They just get mad if I laugh at all when they're no the topic
If I said they're all nuts and need to relax on the subject, they'd probably hold me down and try to eat my brains >_>

Seiki Nova 07-08-2009 02:52 AM

Donna, only if they're not expired books. Mine were all "expired" meaning they were too old to be sold back to the school. I guess the information wasn't relevant anymore. I should sell them on ebay or something.
