I just read the new challenge description. It's gonna be difficult to pull off mermaid without atlantis or aqua-colored items, no lie o_o
The only suggestion I have for contestants this round is that if you pick challenge 2, don't default to the yin-yang set. I'm sure there are some good avis to be made with it (I've seen quite a few), but I have a feeling that a lot of contestants will use it (kindof like how a lot of people used the ragged shirt in this round). Don't be afraid to be daring! You get an avi description to work in your favor! |
I have to be honest and let you know that I'm not always going to put up entry descriptions this cycle. You can send them in if you want, but certain challenges I'm not going to feel the need to put up what you guys send me because we should just be able to see from your entry what you were trying to do. Some of the challenges will be really straightforward, kind of like the first one where I wanted you guys to make outfits where a person of royal origins was trying to dress up as a kind of peasant. There shouldn't be any need for back stories for that kind of avatar, and the same with something like the mermaid challenge.
If I ask you specifically for a description for a certain challenge like I am for the second option, its because I think that the challenge is giving you a broader area to create what it is that you feel the challenge at hand is asking of you. I'm not saying that we won't be able to tell what it is that you're trying to do, but there are just going to be times when I feel that a description will be warranted and when it won't. If I don't specifically ask you for a description, feel free to send me one anyways and if I feel that the challenge is broad enough that your description is needed, I'll include it. Good luck to everyone this round. I'm really excited to see what you guys come up with. I don't know which challenge I'm more excited to see entries for! |
Key: I was thinking the same thing. Also, Chaos and Order sets. Hrm...
*ponder ponder* |
Seiki: I'm good with that. I like leaving it up to interpretation.

Well, at least those are a -little- less obvious than the yin-yang set, in that it requires two separate sets xD |
Hey, I'm not planning on using this, but here's something I did months ago that kind of fits that theme. It's saved on my hard drive as "Emo Girl with a Yellow Umbrella."

I'm hoping to do a human vs. non-human..though I'm starting to feel my current avi looks very male..so perhaps a sex change is needed as well ^^"
|
OMG now I hope someone does a transexual entry >_>
Cami: Cute! Maybe if it were more gothy but with more cute animals it'd work xD I think I want to make a mermaid using aqua and atlantis items now, just to demonstrate what NOT to do for challenge 1 ;D |
*rereads a little*
Congratulations to everyone then! :> Glad no one was eliminated~ Seiki, I can't believe you really went with the +7.3 for everyone. Made me lol so hard. xDDD;; I hope my judging was all right with everyone though. =O In all honesty, I refrained from reading on the descriptions posted in this thread, because I know that I would miss some, or that others didn't have any, and I didn't want to be unfair. :x So whatever interpretation I came up with in my judging was really just how I saw it. xDD;; Also, good luck with everyone in the next challenge! :> <3<3 Btw, I'm totally cool with that, Seiki~ ^^ The descriptions bit, I mean. 8DD;; Thankfully you didn't really implement that during the Green cycle though, cause otherwise us contestants then and even the judges would have been SO lost. 8DDDD;; |
*gives up*
xD;;; I need to sleep, and this mermaid challenge part is quiiiite challenging. *rolls around dissatisfied* Dx |
I couldn't un-read descriptions D:
Oh well. Next time... ;D This is certainly a learning process for me. But I'm excited. SO EXCITED. G'nite Hata! Ugh, my mermaid avi is awful :( I got the bottom half to look alright, but I'm having trouble with the top :/ |
-is suspicious of cami's mermaid avatar-
If you're going where I think you're going, its either going to be really good, or really tacky. I'll have to PM you to confirm xD |
So I know I'm totally jumping the gun on this, but after I saw the results come in I got reel excited about next weeks challenge (which I think is really cool, btw)...but I have two different mermaid concepts that I'd like feedback on? ps. I hope this is the right place to put concepts?
http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...idconcept2.png I was thinking about Selkies when I made this one. (Selkies are seals that shed their skins to reveal a human form underneath who dances around on the beach for a while) I tried to keep a seaweed and found materials look for it. I thought the only clothes the girl would have access to would be seaweed and whatever washed up from shipwrecks  http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...idconcept1.png I don't have as defined an idea for this one, but I really liked the layering of the bottom half. I'm not sure if it looks mermaid-y enough. Plus I tried to use the idea that the sea is more green than blue :P Comments? :D Thank youuuu~ And congrats to Hime! |
HAY GUISE I COSPLAY'D ARIEL WAT DO U THINK? <8D
SEIKI I THINK I NAILED THIS XD http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...ielcosplay.png devilfern: I prefer the first over the second, but I can't say I'm happy with the color of the dress :/ I understand what you were goin' for though :) The second one... eh. It looks clashy and I'm not sure what to tell you other than to lose the red hair since it doesn't go well and it's not a cosplay challenge :[ Also, if you're going to use that hair style, please edit some eyebrows onto her forehead D: |
I faired better then I thought I would ^.^
I am totally not sure which side of this contest I'm gonna take though.....I might do the two sides of people, that may be fun xP |
Oh goodness, now I have a hankerin' to cosplay all of the disney princesses xD
|
Alright, ignore the fact that this is terribly unbalanced, just the concept is what I was working on.
Here is my description: not seeing two sides of a person persay but all sides Each man pretends that the world is simply black and white.....but they forget that there is grey area's hidded between Each person smiles, pretending to the world that they are happy, but stay blind to the truth. Each person shows angelicness on the face and yet harbor inner demons.... Each person would to bring life to the world.....but take it away just as quick. Each person wishes for gold....but most find only a little. |
Neat!
Not gonna lie, I'm not a fan of the white skin though :[ I don't think you need it either, for this challenge. You need some grey up top to balance out the skirt and socks as well. Perhaps the hair will be enough, but I'm not sure. |
lol, yeah, the balance is a train wreck. I'm not done with it. Was just wondering what people thought of the concept. Right now is the time to balance out the colors.
|
@Cora
I like the concept. I really want to see it work. I dunno what I think about the gold bits, but black, white and red I definitely like. Or maybe instead of finding only a little gold, they find only coal. (Though I guess that goes back to the black in the concept, doesn't it?) @Devilfern I like the Selkie concept. Quite a bit actually. I like the Day Dress for it because, as a creature of the sea (and Fae, isn't it?) what need would she have of clothes? Just her, the water and the sand... I like it better than the mermaid concept, I think. The color scheme works, but I feel like you could develop it more. I think my main dislike is that upper skirt. /fails at item names. But that's just me. @Keyori I am amused. I love the spork. It's a nice touch. xD Okay. This round, starting a bit earlier, and hopefully I'll have time to actually, you know, get commentary before presenting an avatar. Last round I was disappointed, but I had to agree with the judges' commentary. And I think I would have gotten a better idea had I been more active in the thread last week. So, that said. I'm going for the mermaid concept. I don't know if I want to stick with the ideas of blue and green for the ocean (though I've managed to avoid Atlantis and aqua-colored items, I think.) Guidance would be greatly appreciated. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f2...aidConcept.png |
I think the puddle of water doesn't need to necessarily be there, as you have quite a bit of blue at the bottom anyway.
Don't be afraid to branch out from blue and green though ;) It's a good start, but you've got a ways to go  And I used the spork with Ariel because she was intrigued by the forks and clocks a lot (i played with the different pocketwatch items too but none of them stood out enough for me to use). I would've given her a mirror too, but I couldn't change which hand the spork was in :/ |
The spork and red hair gave it away for me right away. xD I was quite amused. <3
|
Lol thanks! I might actually use that one for my mule then. It'd need some tweaking though, I was just being silly with it and there's a lot I'd be unhappy with as an actual avi. I don't have the money for a spork to get for her though D:
((my mule's name is parody mule btw lol, and right now she's parodying mr. mayor, albeit rather poorly)) |
I really wish that I could hold the rose in my other hand.....that was the origonal intent....one hand life the other holds death.
|
LOLZ, Keyori, I lab eet. xDDD;; <3<3
Anyhows, too lazy to comment on every single one (plus I'm writing a paper >.<), but I'll just say that it seems that Keyori and I differ from what we think on the avatars you guys just posted on this page. xDDDD;; It's not a bad thing, but it seems that way to meh~ 8DD;; Anyhows... *crawls back hesitantly towards her paper* ;o; |
