rofl

Yeah, I'd say do what you feel is right more than what you think the judges would want. I only gave you my personally preferences, but that is just if you wish to heed them.

I did the mistake once of trying too hard to please the judges instead of something I wanted to do and paid for it.

Suona 03-16-2010 02:25 AM

lol Azn offered, too.
You guys are very sweet.

I am actually wondering if I should bother, or just try to work on making an avi for this round. But I could still change back to it on actual St. Patty's Day. 8'D

Iro 03-16-2010 02:27 AM

My grammar fails when I have not slept for the night.

The offer is open, Suo. Anytime you need to borrow anything, just call. ;)

Changing back works. You do need to make your entry eventually. xD

Cora 03-16-2010 02:28 AM

lol, I definately recall trying to please the judges too much once. It sometimes hurts because all the judges think differently.

To answer your question though windy, I felt they where too balanced. There where a few entries where the extra items didn't seem to fit too well.

Winter Wind 03-16-2010 02:28 AM

When IS StPaddy's day? o-o;;

I don't have any good green items, so there goes my Greenday Outfit. xD

@Iro: Yea, I think I'll just go with what I like. But my interpretations of the challenge are always pretty...off. D: I tried some outfits on my own with other cycles' challenges, and the avis I made didn't match the contestants' avis. xD;

EDIT: @Cora: Ohkay. :]

Thanks!

Cora 03-16-2010 02:29 AM

St. Patties is this wensday.

Iro 03-16-2010 02:32 AM

lol I find that whatever you interpret from the theme is more often than not very different from how others see it. That is what makes these contests fun to even observe. I'd say not to worry too much about that and follow your heart. ;)

Does Seiki have a post explaining/briefing the contestants about judges' preferences?

Cause the judges are very different...I know someone who likes layers, one who would prefer literal translations, one that enjoys odd interpretations, one who rates creativity...
@[email protected]

And THIS is the joy of Project Mene! :XD Because yes, everyone judges totally differently! I really noticed this when I was a judge myself, as some people liked avatars that I really didn't and vice versa. I don't think you should make an avatar to please the judges, but to please yourself. :D

When I was in the Going Green cycle, I always just went with my gut and I rarely posted WIPs in the thread. I just did my best and saw how things went... XP Worked out well for me.

Suona 03-16-2010 02:33 AM

I need to pick paintings and at least try something
I wanted to do Starry Night by Van Gogh, but I dont think he'd accept that, and I hadn't decided how to do it right. lol Might still try for gits and shiggles, though.

@ Iro - Haha. Thanks, Iro. I'll keep it in mind. o3o
And the same goes for you.

Iro 03-16-2010 02:35 AM

Agreed, Siz. Agreed. xD

You're welcome and thank you. =D
I remember someone attempted a Starry Night avatar before, though I can't remember who or how the avatar looked like now.

Cora 03-16-2010 02:40 AM

Starry night would be interesting

Winter Wind 03-16-2010 02:41 AM

It'd be hard with our items though. D:
We only have so many items in those colors. x-x

Cora 03-16-2010 02:42 AM

yeah....very few actually. It would be murder trying to represent starry night.

Suona 03-16-2010 02:46 AM

It could be fun to try, and wouldn't necessarily have to be completely accurate on the color shades.

lol Just found a picture of someone that painted Starry Night on the side of their Arabian horse.

Cora 03-16-2010 02:51 AM

o.0 poor horse.

CK 03-16-2010 03:04 AM

I'm not so sure about the theme of this one. :x

I interpreted it as that I was able to represent an artist's body of work rather than a single piece and Iro's not so sure. ::was chatting with her off-site::

SO...... Currently I am representing Leonardo da Vinci's body of work.
My avatar is the Mona Lisa wearing Jesus's robes from The Last Supper. She holds a hammer to represent da Vinci's interest in building things, the mechanical headwings in representation of his flying machines, and a pouch slung around her for da Vinci's need to travel for his work.

Is this fitting with the challenge, or do I need to represent one work only? :x ::if so, totally claims The Last Supper, dangit:: >:B

Any suggestions for this avatar?

Cora 03-16-2010 03:06 AM

I would take that, but you might want to ask seiki. I think its a different way of interpreting the challenge.

It does state
Quote:

For this challenge, you will create an outfit based on a work of art (including sculptures) by any of the following artists.
but I am not sure how seiki would feel about encompasing the artist as a whole.

Suona 03-16-2010 03:12 AM

Yeah, I think you have to do a specific painting

CK 03-16-2010 03:16 AM

I'll wait to hear back from Seiki. :3

Though any other suggestions for this particular avatar are still welcome.

Suona 03-16-2010 03:17 AM

I wouldn't quite know
I myself still have no idea what to do, really

Ferra 03-16-2010 03:42 AM

@CK: I think it's a cool idea, but it's a little plain looking and I'm not really a fan of the paw bag (whatever that's called).

I'd be really interested to see what you would do for The Last Supper though. :) But I'm no judge, so don't mind me, lol.

Cami 03-16-2010 03:47 AM

A lot of people seem to be just role playing a figure in one of the paintings. While that can certainly be cool, I think it's possible to be more creative with the challenge.

Winter Wind 03-16-2010 03:50 AM

It depends on what you choose as artwork, I think.

The painting I'm going to use is a portrait will basically three dominating colors, and the contrast of dark and light as characteristic of the gothic style during the Renaissance. I'll be creating an avatar that includes the three main colors, as well as attempt to paint a somber, regal tone.

But if you're doing something like...Venus or paintings that 10+ people, it's eaiser to just pick someone to portray, cause there are too many colors invovled.

That's just my take though.

Roachi 03-16-2010 07:52 AM

So just a question, we are allowed to use more then 1 piece as a reference?

ghostPastry 03-16-2010 08:30 AM

I think Seiki said you can, so long as they're all from the list of artists he provided. :)
