I kinda know what you mean about having trouble with this round. XD"

And now, you're making me more anxious about mine because I can't really think of any way to truly capture The Birth of Venus in an avatar without at least partially cosplaying Venus herself, since she's the main focal point of the painting. :stare: Bad enough that I feel it's missing something I just can't place. >.<#

Have you looked through other paintings or artworks? Maybe something will hit you?

Suona 03-18-2010 05:48 AM

Its hard to do, huh? :x
I have questions for Seiki, but I haven't been on at the same time as him since sometime yesterday, and I forget to ask then. ><;;

I know, right?! Its so confusing
I keep hearing people say to try not to do cosplays, but be creative. But I can't find ways to really be creative, and if I use very many layers, then I feel like I'm cluttered and not representing the theme. @[email protected];;

I've done a couple.
The first day I did an Eve avi.
http://i43.tinypic.com/2rmkxh1.png
And then yesterday I added to it because Eve is always viewed as being bad for eating the apple, and its always saying that women are evil because of it. xP;;
http://i42.tinypic.com/2zdspjr.png

And then I did another one that is supposed to be representing Starry Night

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 05:51 AM

Yea, this challenge is HARD.
D:

I chose a portrait, so it's hard not to try to look like the person. xD

Luenola Marxiel 03-18-2010 05:52 AM

*laughs* The second one sure is interesting, but I'm not sure it represents the painting, lol.

Suona 03-18-2010 05:54 AM

Haha. But it cracks me up all the same.
Its the only thing that comes to mind when I think of Adam and Eve. Makes me want to make an avi of Adam where it has the rib gore item because he supposedly gave women one rib. lmao

Yeah, its for this painting: http://artyzm.com/obrazy/masaccio-adam.jpg

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 05:59 AM

I like the one you have on currently, it's super elegant.

The second Eve one was hilarious, but I think you should leave out the belts. (since she was nude after all).

Zweres 03-18-2010 06:01 AM

I had to PM Seiki to (try) use the one extention allowed per cycle. :( I'm really sorry, but Project Mene hasn't been first the past few days due to family business.

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 06:03 AM

S'ohkay Zweres. :]
I hope the situation gets better soon! :]

@everyone: Should I keep this long red skirt? Cause technically, that's sort of how Renaissance ladies dressed: long flowy skirts.
But that also means all my awesome layering on my legs are invisible.
D:

Suona 03-18-2010 06:04 AM

Thanks, Windy. :3
Its based off this one: http://artyzm.com/obrazy/masaccio-adam.jpg
Any suggestions?

And she's nude under the belts? lol
I dont think anyone would take that version anyway, but still fun for me. xD;;

Hmm. And the long skirt, with the poofy blue is kind of odd looking.

ghostPastry 03-18-2010 06:04 AM

@Suo- That painting horrifies me. D: No body hair and that snake has a lady's head! xD;

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 06:07 AM

@Brianna: Agreeed. xD

@Suona: For which? The Eve one, or the one you have on?
The Eve, it'd be easier to recognize if she wasn't wearing anything. xD

Suona 03-18-2010 06:08 AM

Yup. Pretty freaky, huh? lol
Creepers!

Oops. Wrong picture. ><;;
I had meant this one: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...the_Virgin.jpg
lol My bad

This reminds me more of Lilith, actually. :0 Lilith - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Although I'm not sure if there's a painting that represents her from the Renaissance...

EDIT: Ah, here we go. I think these are from the time period. :) http://jewishchristianlit.com/Topics...h/aNePics.html Not as striking as the main one in that Wiki article though.

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 06:10 AM

@Suona: It's pretty cool how you combined the two figures.

But maybe a belt? :0
The priest or whatever has one, and it'd make your avatar a bit more interesting?
And more obvious that you combined the two.

EDIT:
Does the overskirt look better? D:

Suona 03-18-2010 06:13 AM

Oooh. I could totally use that for Lilith, huh?
I would have to ask Seiki first, though. :x And I have noo idea what he will and will not accept

@ Windy - Thank you. :]

And sadly I have tried every different kind of possible belt or waist item that I could find and they all layer over the red robe. D: It really sucks!!

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 06:14 AM

Dang. D:

Then you've done the best you can do.
:]

I can't decide...overskirt or not? D: Cause without it, there isn't enough red on the bottom...but like you said, the layering is still a bit awkward, even with this skirt. D;

Ferra 03-18-2010 06:15 AM

@Suona: Michelangelo is an option, isn't he? The painting that looks most interesting to me from that gallery is one of his: http://jewishchristianlit.com/Topics...s/miche06c.jpg

@Winter: What are you trying to represent?

Luenola Marxiel 03-18-2010 06:17 AM

Yeah, I'm not sure there's a Renaissance painting of Lilith, Ferra. She seems likely to have fallen under the category of people that artists of the time, especially those that focused on biblical art, would rather not paint or discuss. :lol: Besides, since I don't think she was prominent in "biblical canon," perhaps her existence wasn't popular knowledge? =3

Come to think of it, any thoughts on mine, Ferra? Here's the painting I'm working with: Nacimiento de Venus.

Suona 03-18-2010 06:23 AM

I think the overskirt looked rather nice
But i'd have to see it again

Ferra 03-18-2010 06:35 AM

@Luenola Marxiel: I like it. :) It's very clearly connected to the painting. I know you've been trying to find something to add to it, but nothing really comes to mind. Why not try working with a different painting for a while and come back to this one if you don't find anything better?

Suona 03-18-2010 07:00 AM

Does my current look kind of like Starry Night?
http://www.taos-telecommunity.org/ep...ry%20night.jpg

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 07:02 AM

I'm not really representing a painting, just the colors. :3
So my main problem is that I need to balance out my colors, and still keep a somewhat regal and somber mood.

@Suona: It's sorta there, but only because I looked at the picture first. xD;
It's a really hard concept to do. D:

Suona 03-18-2010 07:04 AM

Well, the majority of these paintings you wont be able to know just by looking at someones avi. ><;;
But yeah, its hard to pull off. We dont have quite the right colors.

Winter Wind 03-18-2010 07:10 AM

Yea, that's true.
I'd give you bonus points though, for trying to pull off starry night. xD

Ferra 03-18-2010 07:10 AM

@Winter: Hmm... at the risk of sounding like Tim Gun, this outfit worries me. :sweat: If you can't even see a painting in your outfit, how is that following the challenge? The red/white/blue brings to mind 4th of July more than it does the Renaissance, in my opinion. You don't have to do a direct cosplay, but to stay in this competition you will need to incorporate themes into your avatar.

@Suona: I like the scenery items since they really fit, but I think you can do a little more with the body area. :)
