Did River insist the Doctor didn't teach her how to fly the TARDIS? I thought she either said he had, or it was implied.
|
|
Yeah, something to that effect. I think it wasn't so much his physical appearance (since he tends to get younger every time he regenerates, and, well, we know for a fact that he regenerates after then since that was when he was the 10th), but it was something to do with the age showed in his eyes. So her being the TARDIS wouldn't really make sense since he's had that for a long time.
|
True, I hadn't thought of that. But it's still a better theory than "SHE'S HIS WIFE!" hehe. Because this is Moffat, after all. And he always tries to make us think one thing (there's a terrible monster in the Pandorica) when in reality it's something entirely different (it's the Doctor in the Pandorica! huwha?!) because that's what Moffat does best. lol. So the wife theory is too obvious to be true. She could be Rani, though. That's another decent theory.
|
I thought she was just a future companion of his.
|
She's Romana! I'm just throwing random things out there because I'm far too slow to come up with brilliant theories like you guys. All I can add is that Moffat answered someone on Twitter to say the events in the library were River's "unavoidable fate".
Heh, I kind of want the twist to be that she's 'just another' companion who happened to have her own exciting life too but it leaves too many questions. |
I thought that's what it was supposed to be. xD I must have missed something, I never found her that mysterious. She's from the Doctor's future so she has to watch what she says ("spoilers"), and she was his companion so she knows him really well and is close to him. I don't see what all the confusion and theories are for, really.

Ooh, congratulations, Ljos!
How does one enter the contest anyway? Or do they just pick out people randomly? |
It's picked from the people Jelly sees, half. You can't really "enter."
ljos - True, but I had that chalked up to them being together for a long time. Rose didn't know, but she was only with the Doctor for 2 years. For all we know, River was with the doctor for decades, at which point some of that stuff might come up. And Amy sort of flew the TARDIS in The Lodger. Really, with all the trouble the Doctor gets into, I always thought it was a bit irresponsible that he didn't give his long-term companions at least a quick briefer in the basics of TARDIS flight. Especially considering how often they seem to end up trapped in the TARDIS while the Doctor is in danger. |
|
Yeah, his real name is a secret, I think that only other Timelords knew it, but we don't know how long they were together. Maybe he didn't even volunteer the information, maybe she found out through some... convoluted way, I don't know.
Not really familiar with what Moffat's style is, so I couldn't guess as to how he would explain it. I've just taken things at face value. |
|
Congrats ljos, your avatars are always really creative!
The Graham Norton show with Matt Smith is being repeated tonight, hurrah. |
Was it just my imagination or is The Doctor coming to America for one of his adventures? Just making sure I haven't gone crazy with drinking to much eggnog, though the all the left over christmas cookies didn't help much.
|
Yep, the press release came out a couple of months ago. Here it is from BBC America. Two Moffat episodes, then Gaiman, then Gatiss will probably make me explode in some kind of fangirlish glee.
|
:squee: yayz!
|
I'm willing to bet that's where the Stetson comes into the mix.
Of course, that season 2 episode set in New York during the Great Depression was set in America, but I think that one was filmed in England, wasn't it? |
Yes... I mean, some of the crew went to New York to film scenes of the Statue of Liberty, where the TARDIS was later edited in. And none of the actors actually went on location. At least, if I remember correctly.
Planet of the Dead was filmed in Dubai, however. |
Oh really? That's interesting...
That was the one with the criminal lady as the one-off companion, yeah? *doesn't feel like Googling* |
I'll be reading this all when I've gotten around to watching the special, but I thought I'd let you know, you can vote for Matt Smith as your favourite TV personality of the year over at metro.co.uk: Top 5 TV stars of 2010 | Metro.co.uk
Edit: Meh, guess it's not an official poll and what not, but you can still do it. |
I voted!
OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. JUST. Twitpic - Share photos on Twitter Someone got a blank set of matryoshkas and hand painted those. Is that not the most awesome thing ever? I think it is. I'm going to have to practice drawing cartoony versions of all the doctors so I can make myself a set. I just... NEED. (*has a small collection of matryoshkas*) |

Ooh, cool! I only have two right now, but I have a kilt pin with little matryoshka-shaped beans hanging from it, gradually getting smaller, of course.
Do you have any pictures of yours? So I looked online for blank 12 piece sets, but I could only find one place that carries them, and they charge $90. Yikes. So I decided that once my skillz are up to snuff, I'll do a 5 piece and keep it all new series. TARDIS, 11th Doctor, 10th Doctor, 9th Doctor, and a sonic screwdriver on the teeniest. A 5 piece goes as low as $11 from my quick browsing. Link. The skinniness of the smallest is perfect for the sonic screwdriver. I think I'd do the 9th/10th's on one side and the 11th's on the other. |
