At least it wasn't this: Facebook Weighs In On The Japanese Tsunami: Pics, Videos, Links, News

That genuinely got my blood boiling. And I must say, it's not easy to do that.

Lost in Austen 03-15-2011 08:04 PM

Wow.... did those people forget what we did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Apparently so...

seaturtle16 03-15-2011 09:04 PM

I have a co-worker who believes we shouldn't be helping Japan because "they bombed Pearl Harbor. They weren't worried about helping us when they did that." I couldn't believe that he would hold on to something like that for so long, or would be able to completely ignore our counterstrike.

Some people just hold on to things.

Cardinal Biggles 03-15-2011 10:04 PM

On top of that, a time of war is a completely different kettle of fish than a natural disaster.

seaturtle16 03-15-2011 10:19 PM

I was just shocked at such an obvious display of bigotry. I sometimes forget (because I associate with very open-minded people) that people like that exist these days.

Cherry Who? 03-15-2011 10:24 PM

It sucks when people show their true (ugly) colors. But what can you do? The most hateful are usually the least likely to listen to reason. All you can do is just let them live out their spiteful little lives and hope that they're never in a position that gives them much power.

seaturtle16 03-15-2011 10:26 PM

Very true. I didn't even try to argue with him, because I knew that there was nothing for it, and as a rule I don't try to change other people. :-\

I just wish they could see all the reasons to not be spiteful, how much happiness can come from learning about a different culture and trying to see through another's eyes.

The whole "Japan earthquake is karma for Pearl Harbour" shit is just.. ugh. Even when you look only at statistics and ignore the fact you can't hold an entire nation responsible for something a few members of it did, especially when it's been 70 years and all or most of those people must be dead by now (*breathes*), Pearl Harbour had less than 2500 casualties, less than a 100 of them were civilians (mostly soldiers). In Hiroshima and Nagasaki there were hundreds of thousands of casualties (civilians!). For the quake, I read somewhere they were expecting around 10.000 casualties, though it's still unknown it seems.
It made me so frustrated to read that stuff.. I can't believe there are people who actually think like that. :/

seaturtle16 03-16-2011 06:45 PM

It makes absolutely NO sense to me at all, and I can only count myself lucky to be able to choose not to associate with people who do think that way.

KatMagenta 03-16-2011 06:49 PM

One of my friends posted a link to the Japanese Red Cross page with a message saying "we need our games and anime!!" which got my eye twitching a bit but I'm glad I haven't came across ignorance on this scale.

seaturtle16 03-16-2011 07:04 PM

It's disheartening, more than anything else. I thought we were past these kinds of things as a culture. I guess not.

Cherry Who? 03-16-2011 07:56 PM

We never will be, I think. :(

On a happier, whoier note... this dA user has uploaded a ton of Doctor Who-themed cube craft print outs. If you have a printer with color ink, a pair of scissors (and maybe tape?), you can have a little doctor who thing on your desk!

I know I've linked to stuff like this before, but I think it was only two or three things. This is just an astounding collection. Although it does have some weird holes... for example there's about ten different daleks (yes, including the crayola daleks), a pink TARDIS, and smilers, yet no Donna Noble or Jack Harkness? Anyway, still fun. I need to get some color ink now. I need a little tardis and 10th doctor and a little army of daleks!

KatMagenta 03-16-2011 08:36 PM

I want a Seven and Ace!

I've seen those cubey things before but I didn't know whether ordinary paper was good enough to make them or if it needed to be stiffer (ooh er).

seaturtle16 03-16-2011 08:51 PM

I would love to have an army of Daleks! Thanks for the link!

Cardinal Biggles 03-16-2011 09:05 PM

Mmm. I ran into some boosh ones the other day while looking for fodder for my friend.
Cube Hitcher was cuter than it had any right to be.

Cherry Who? 03-16-2011 09:47 PM

Kat - Well, stiffer paper would probably do a bit better, but they work with normal printer paper too. :) Their cube shape gives them sturdiness.

Biggles - I demand the link to this!

Cardinal Biggles 03-16-2011 09:51 PM

I'll see if I can fall down that rabbit hole again...

Edit: Here we go: http://cyberdrone.deviantart.com/gal...q=mighty+boosh

Cherry Who? 03-17-2011 05:07 AM

... Wouldja look at that, same guy.

KatMagenta 03-17-2011 01:33 PM

I got drawn into his other galleries and now want a cube Booster Gold and Skeets too. :illgetu:

Cherry Who? 03-18-2011 06:29 PM

Hey guys.
Steampunk Dalek. Yyyeaaahhh!

KatMagenta 03-18-2011 07:00 PM

Steampunk Dalek is strangely cute. Inventive use of the bubble-bath too, I got one as a joke present for my birthday once.

Comic Relief is just starting now. Ooh.

Cherry Who? 03-18-2011 07:47 PM

Reminding everyone that we do have a red nose item. It's in the Reindeer Disguise. :)

EDIT: Lost, I love your signature.

seaturtle16 03-18-2011 07:54 PM

I love your signature, Cherry. Spongebob is my absolute favorite cartoon.

KatMagenta 03-18-2011 08:01 PM

The appeals with David Tennant and Doctor Who mini episodes were on near the beginning of the show.

Claudia (one of the hosts) hinted 'the Doctor' might be there later.

Brilliant sigs everywhere. O_o

Cherry Who? 03-18-2011 08:02 PM

Seaturtle - Thank you. It's one of my favorites too. I found this absurd little picture last night and loved it.
