Lost in Austen 03-18-2011 11:16 PM

This video deserves WAY more views. :XD

KatMagenta 03-18-2011 11:25 PM

I think I might have seen that before. It is still pretty foolgoog.

Matt Smith as The Doctor is on Comic Relief again, yay.

Lost in Austen 03-19-2011 12:44 AM

....And jazzy.

Looking for the Comic Relief stuff on youtube right now...

KatMagenta 03-19-2011 12:56 AM

They're on the Red Nose Day channel already. ^^

Lost in Austen 03-19-2011 02:40 AM

Alrighty, I'll watch those in a few minutes.

Right now I'm too busy staring and blinking in disbelief at the following.

1. Over a fifth of adults incorrectly believe light sabres exist.
2. Nearly a quarter (24%) of people are wrong in their belief that humans can be teleported.
3. Nearly 50% of adults wrongly believe that memory-erasing technology exists.
4. More than 40% of people incorrectly believe that hover boards exist.
5. Nearly one fifth (18%) of adults have the incorrect view that they can see gravity.

Excuse me whilst I headdesk.

I guess this comes as a particular shock to me, because, well.... pretty much everyone I know from the UK is a nerd like me. :XD

But still, it's just shocking that such a high percentage of any country would know so little about CGI. Especially the hoverboards. Because trust me, if they existed, I would own one. For realzies.

Cardinal Biggles 03-19-2011 02:48 AM

What? I can totally see gravity.
Look, there it is:

Cherry Who? 03-19-2011 03:46 AM

That was amusing, Lost.

I haven't seen the comic relief videos yet. I might save them for tomorrow... or until I finish this season of Torchwood. Which would be sooner than tomorrow...

KatMagenta 03-19-2011 03:47 AM

But surely there are prototypes of things like hoverboards and light sabres which might not be like the ones from the movies but based on similar concepts? They made a really rubbish version of the Leia hologram recently. Plus, the layman probably doesn't understand the difference between being able to see gravity and being able to see the effects of gravity.

I don't know why I feel the need to defend the people of Birmingham. I just want that knife from the Hitchhiker's Guide film that cuts and toasts bread at the same time even though they pointed out in the commentary that one side would be cold.

Cherry Who? 03-19-2011 04:00 AM

There are "hoverboards." They're just not awesome sky skateboards. They're more like leafblowers. The more sophisticated are like hovercrafts, but for land. Not that great, but still, kind of a hoverboard. :P That's probably what some were thinking of, at least.

KatMagenta 03-19-2011 04:14 AM

I was thinking of something with fans but I wasn't sure they'd be able to support the weight of a person. Personal hovercrafts! I think they made one of those on Mythbusters.

Cherry Who? 03-19-2011 05:38 AM

Well, depends on your definition of fan, I suppose.

jessieomer 03-19-2011 02:21 PM

So, they finally took Doctor Who off my telly. So the only way I can watch it is through the internet. OH wells, I have no idea where I am in the series, so I don't mind any spoilers or whatever you want to talk about.

Cherry Who? 03-19-2011 11:29 PM

Aww, sorry you lost Who! Do be sure to watch it online, each* episode is gold.

* Except Love and Monsters

jessieomer 03-20-2011 06:53 PM

Lol. I will! I gotta see where I am in the series though. I think I am way behind xD.

Cherry Who? 03-21-2011 03:11 AM

Well, what companion were you with? Rose is first and second season, Martha is 3rd, Donna is 4th, and Amy is 5th. Once you get that, then go here and scroll down, clicking every few episodes and see which ones sound familiar until you find the one that you haven't seen. Tada.

Torchwood. Torchwood. Someone talk to me about Torchwood, all I've done this week is watch Torchwood. (okay, that's not true, I've actually been really productive, but when I wasn't being productive, I was watching Torchwood.)

jessieomer 03-21-2011 02:32 PM

Well thats it. I've seen all the companions, but I've jumped around the series. I know I have fully watched the first 2 seasons, so I may just start with the 3rd season

KatMagenta 03-21-2011 03:56 PM

Torchwood. I've been meaning to rewatch it for approximately forever (I did say approximately).

Good luck with your viewing Jessie!

Cherry Who? 03-21-2011 08:30 PM

jessie - Sounds good to me. It's best watched in chronological order, so you get the full effect of everything. :)

Kat - TORCHWOOD!

KatMagenta 03-23-2011 06:51 PM

There are couple of teaser videos for the new series of Doctor Who on the BBC DW website. I don't think it's spoilery for me to say The Impossible Astronaut appears to contain an astronaut. Who is presumably impossible.

The videos are on iPlayer so I don't know if they're blocked outside the UK. Here are some YouTube links if they are: New series teaser | Prequel teaser

Edit: Torchwood: Miracle Day poster and airdate. TORCHWOOD! Still desperately trying to remain open minded.

Cherry Who? 03-24-2011 06:42 AM

Torchwood Torchwood, Torchwood... Torchwood, Torchwood?
Okay, okay, but really. The new series is starting the day after my birthday so it's like a birthday present for me! :eager: I'm confident that it will be good but

SPOILERX

I'm still really pissed that Owen, Tosh, and Ianto are all dead. I mean, really, what's Torchwood without them? :gonk: I loved them! Ugh, even Owen, since they had to go and make us all attached to him right before he died. I got all teary when he and Tosh died.

*ahem* Doctor Who Doctor Who Doctor Who!

Cardinal Biggles 03-24-2011 07:46 AM

It's been a bit since I randomly posted any art, eh?

KatMagenta 03-24-2011 07:37 PM

I just don't understand who Russell T Davies is talking to who think Gwen is the greatest character ever and what every series needs is more Gwen. I don't hate her like some people do but the show doesn't go out of its way making her any more likeable. Hopefully the new Miracle Day characters are somewhat interesting.

Er, Doctor Who, yes. Random art is good. Reminds me I meant to share this. ^^

Cherry Who? 03-25-2011 03:59 AM

Oh, are we supposed to hate Gwen? I like Gwen. She pisses me off when

SPOILERX

fucking Owen, wanting to fuck Jack...

but I can't stay mad at her, I guess. I just

SPOILERX

really want the rest of the crew back. :gonk:

I am looking forward to the new people, though... tentatively. I like Six Feet Under, so I'll be interested to see that girl in an adult role.

Sorry about the spoiler tags, but I get the impression that a good half of the people here haven't seen Torchwood yet, so I don't want to spoil it for them.

The Sgt. Pepper art. AWESOME.

KatMagenta 03-25-2011 03:30 PM

Maybe it's because most of the people I know who watch Torchwood were 'Janto' fans and saw 'Gwack' as a threat.

After every Torchwood episode me and my friend would sent each other messages and I would write a fake 'diary' entry from Ianto's point of view which always contained the same themes:

They're in here for spoilery-nessX

Owen is dead.* Gwen's eyes are too round. Tosh is rejected.
I even drew fanart.
http://i56.tinypic.com/2ur0d1k.jpg
*I think before Owen was dead he was 'nasty' or 'mean' or something along those lines.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this post was. The first Who series 6 prequel will be out in about half an hour, hurrah.

Edit: Prequel link! People on Facebook are saying it's not blocked in the US so sorry if they're wrong.

Edit the second: The 'iconic image' for series 6 has been released too. Ta-da!

Cardinal Biggles 03-26-2011 04:23 AM

Some of you have already been made aware of this, but for the rest of you:
