Well, Biggles, we can only hope

colorsbold 04-30-2011 05:23 AM

I'm starting it soon. I only started watching the Doctor 2 months ago. I'm very behind. Was lost in Harry Potter, Ender, LOTR, Buffy, Red Dwarf... the usual suspects. Obsessive personality type. Don't worry-- I promise I'm on my way to season 4! :P

Yay! I like your handle, Lost in Austen.

I wonder if the Royal Family would consent to be involved in an episode of Dr. Who...

Cardinal Biggles 04-30-2011 05:24 AM

Dwarf!

And I highly doubt it.

colorsbold 04-30-2011 05:29 AM

But it's a national symbol! Well deserving of the dignity of William and Kate, at least.

YES!
I was raised on Red Dwarf.

Ah, fun. The employment of time in a profit-less and non-practical way.
So much love.

By the way: should I be watching Torchwood as well? What's the word on this?

Lost in Austen 04-30-2011 05:30 AM

Biggles: Is your avatar crying because she just stabbed herself?

Cardinal Biggles 04-30-2011 05:32 AM

@ Color: I was too! I discovered it when I was eight, and my indulgent and trusting parents let me immerse myself in it  To be fair, these were the same parents that had me watch Fawlty Towers as a toddler, so it may not have simply been turning a blind eye...

@ Austin: Haha! I hadn't thought of that. That wasn't my intention. She's crying because of the emotional nature of her act. She's not hardened to what she did.

Cherry Who? 04-30-2011 05:33 AM

Yes, absolutely watch Torchwood. It's amazing and I love it so hard. Just don't expect it to be like Doctor Who, the tone is completely different.

colorsbold 04-30-2011 05:47 AM

@ Austen:
My grandmother watched one of the first episodes with me in the living room when I was in kindergarten-- and I was so proud of myself for getting the cat's "This is mine," spray-joke that I became obsessed. "Get it? Because he's a cat, gamma! He's spraying." My whole family loves it. I re-watch them like crazy on old VHS-tapes. :)
Favorite episode: Quarantine. Checked-gingham-dress. Oh, yes.

@Cherry:
Oh, but I love quirk! I think I can handle serious, though. It's very serious? I hate having an incomplete knowledge of cannon when it comes to shows I love.

Cardinal Biggles 04-30-2011 05:50 AM

Mr. Flibbles!

KatMagenta 04-30-2011 11:09 PM

Heh, I watched all of Red Dwarf the first time round on videos my parents had recorded. They'd even managed to tape the Red Dwarf night hosted by Patrick Stewart. I quite enjoyed Back to Earth too so I hope if/when the new episodes materialise they're at least as good.

Day of the Moon spoilery-rambleX

I really need to watch it again because my new flatmate hasn't mastered the (unspoken) rule of 'Never talk to Katie while she's watching Doctor Who'. There's a couple of scenes in particular I want to see again anyway and I haven't watched the Confidential yet so that might help too.

I knew coming into it that for every answer the Moff decides the viewers have earned there must be at least three more questions. I'd thought the Silence were going to be present for the whole series, especially with so much setup, but it seems like the 'little girl' (Amy's daughter?) has taken their place. I have so many questions and not enough brain to even start guessing at them.

I do love the Ponds though. Especially with actual Rory character development. Stupid adorable face. ♥

Time head is still making me giggle now. Time head. My new answer for anything unexplained in Doctor Who or life in general is going to be time head.

Cardinal Biggles 05-01-2011 12:44 AM

I haven't seen BtE yet, but I've heard mixed things. Glad to hear you liked it. I heard that one half of Grant/Naylor wasn't involved in it? (can't remember which one) I hope they are both involved in the series. I'm hopeful about it, in either case. They still are young enough to pull it off and what not.

Lost in Austen 05-01-2011 12:53 AM

Argh, "Day of the Moon" can't get here soon enough. >_<

KatMagenta 05-01-2011 01:01 AM

Rob Grant left after series 6 so Doug Naylor has been in charge of Red Dwarf since then. Here's the series X confirmation on the official website. If they do get models (they look so much nicer than the CGI!) and a live audience I think that'll make a big difference too.

Ah, waiting for Doctor Who is terrible. I was getting twitchy watching the snooker and checking the time every five minutes. XD

Lost in Austen 05-01-2011 01:11 AM

Le sigh.....

*finally breaks down and reads your spoilery ramble*

Ah. Okay. Um, that made zero sense to me. I guess I'll only understand it after I watch the episode.

Cardinal Biggles 05-01-2011 01:43 AM

Yes, but it's easier to work on a project that already has momentum, like series 7 and 8, rather than starting from square one-ish, like BtE. Or so I would think. Series X is rather like BtE in that way... again, I would think.

Lost in Austen 05-01-2011 01:52 AM

Anyone got a link where I can watch Day of the Moon?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found one!!

I can tell the actor who plays Canton Delaware III is actually British because of the way he says "lit-trally" instead of "litter-ally". My odd fascination with accents strikes again!

Mmmmm. And I love the way that sounds. The lost "e" is really mesmerizing.

Yeah. And strawberries are "stroor-breez". ;)

Reactions to the new episodeX

OMG.

Time Lord girl for teh win!

I bet everyone's thinking she has to be Amy and the Doctor's baby. But I'm gonna have faith that they never actually fooled around and it HAS to be River and the Doctor's baby. Except..... why wouldn't River remember her? hmm.... Okay well, I guess I have no theories. But I'm interested to see who this girl's parents could be. Maybe one of them is Jenny? Or the Master?

Well, I'm pretty sure that Moffat's just trying to make us THINK that Amy is the mother of the baby. It's probably something completely different, like Amy was just posing for the photo with the baby, y'know? And the girl could just be a completely human child who somehow acquired regeneration powers (like how Donna got some of that Timelord-y consciousness without actually being part Timelord beforehand.)

Cherry Who? 05-01-2011 04:58 AM

I haven't watched the new episode yet, just popping in to share some adorable David Tennant humor. The Face of Boe is having trouble getting work. Spoilers for Season 3 ep "Gridlock" just in case no one's seen that.

Colors - Yeah, it can be pretty serious. I mean, there's still jokes and it's not Lost or something, but it doesn't feel like Doctor Who.

KatMagenta 05-01-2011 02:39 PM

I'm dreadful with accents and am now concious of the fact I say 'lit-rally'. XD

More DOTM spoilersX

I'd been thinking the little girl might be Amy and Rory's daughter but she had got 'time head' from exposure to the TARDIS/time travel/what-have-you. But before that I'd been assuming the Silence had just put the idea in Amy's head that she was pregnant even if she wasn't...

MOFFAT! :illgetu:

Tee, the Face of Boe at the Doctor Who exhibition was huge. He probably can't even fit through doors never mind audition for new parts.

Lost in Austen 05-01-2011 04:13 PM

Kat: Don't worry, at least you pronounce your T's. (We end up turning half of them into D's without realizing it for some odd reason)

spoilery response, and another theory....X

Whoever she is, I just hope she sticks around, because she's a really good actress for her age, and young kids with talent are so rare these days. lol.

NOW, here's an interesting theory I saw.

Amy is pregnant. She kept forgetting encountering the Silence. So at some point she was captured by them and impregnated by a Silence/Time Lord morph (The "alive" TARDIS kept forgetting she was pregnant and so did she). The Silence have access to Time Lord genetics (remember how the astronaut suit repaired itself?).

The girl in the suit is Amy's daughter (the photo in bedroom/regeneration). She is also River Song. She regenerates, therefore can look completely different to the current River (btw River/Pond. get it?). Do you remember the woman looking through the door saying "it's just a dream" or something like that. That was River grown up. Also the doctor keeps forgetting her "Who are you?". She also killed a very good man i.e. the Doctor.

River said she met The Doctor as a little girl and he knew all about her. This is her regeneration into the River he will know. Which means that she will be the one who will kill The Doctor in the future.

Cherry Who? 05-01-2011 09:14 PM

New episode spoilertastic fun timeX

Okay, The Silence have officially passed the Weeping Angels as "Scariest Alien in the Whoniverse." Any objections?

Also, holy crap, Amy was treating Rory like a human being. Holy holy crap. If they keep this up I might actually like her. She was being... nice to him! (I don't count "stupid face" as being mean since it was affectionate and not serious)

The idea that the girl is River is interesting, and I'd be okay with that being true. I definitely don't accept that it's Amy's and the Doctor's, because, come on, that's ridiculous. He wouldn't even get down with Rose and he really loved her, and I don't think he's in love with Amy at all. I'm certain that's just a red herring. I don't think, though, that Amy is the mother if the girl is River. River doesn't give away "spoilers" but she makes no secret of her affection for the Doctor. If Amy was her mother, wouldn't she be more friendly to her? Unless, I guess, she doesn't know... But wouldn't she have figured it out?

The photo with Amy holding the baby may have been another red herring... I mean, it's not as if the only person to ever hold a baby is their parents. I see photos all the time of people holding their niece/nephew, their best friend's baby, etc. If you go with the theory that it's the Doctor's and River's, of course she'd hold the baby. Though I don't know what I think of it being the Doctor's and River's, I think that might be too expected. I want to say that the Doctor wouldn't have a child again, but I'm being largely influenced by the cranky 10th Doctor, and the 11th just isn't him. So Iunno.

colorsbold 05-01-2011 11:48 PM

Oh my goodness I haven't seen the new episode yet! And I won't be able to until after Sunday dinner with my family. Grrrraaaaaarrrrrg.

Cherry-- oooh, I love that. "Specific Casting." Nice.

Maybe there is one of them that would be willing to get involved:

DOTM SpoilersX

@Cherry: YES. Yes they are scarier than the Angels, yes. I hated watching this episode alone. Gaaaaah. And the sudden appearance of hatchmarks... Why does anyone ever leave Amy alone ever? It does nothing but stress me out. She's always on the verge of some unholy death.

Thank heavens they're treating Rory better. After the 2,000 years as a guard, I'd say he has earned it. :)

I agree that the photo with Amy holding the girl is probably misleading somehow. Either she's not actually the mother, or the baby just has a time-head thanks to the TARDIS. It's not the first time a companion has been granted strange powers thanks to Big Blue.

What do you guys think of Canton? I deeply love him. "Welcome to America."
And the posthypnotic suggestion which toppled Rome? Genius. Creepy, creepy genius broadcast through time. Oh, Doctor.

Meanwhile, I'm feeling a lot of sadness for River Song. Last kiss.
Has anyone ever read The Time Traveler's Wife?

Awwwww... he wore a fez? That's brilliant. Redheaded prince takes lead guest spot. :)
