YAY! another ninth doctor lover!!!

KatMagenta 05-21-2011 07:51 PM

Hey, the world doesn't appear to have ended. I'd have been most annoyed to have stopped existing without seeing Doctor Who.

In lieu of intelligent comment I'm just going to leave a link to this video because Jack's expression gets me every time.

*ahem cough cough cough*

Kat - Oh god.

ljosberinn 05-22-2011 12:37 PM

Ah, right, I did so not remember that.. I'm terrible with noticing songs in general. ^^;

The world didn't end, though another volcano went off in Iceland, and just after 6pm too (local time though). I can't seem to be able to load the video Cherry sent, it just hiccups and then stops. :c

Cherry Who? 05-22-2011 05:51 PM

I'm pretty sure that Youtube Breaking is one of the names of the horsemen of the apocalypse, so... Yikes.

ljosberinn 05-22-2011 06:31 PM

Arg.. I meant to say I can't load the video Kat sent. >.<

I love your signature by the way, it makes me smile every time I see it.

Cherry Who? 05-22-2011 06:32 PM

Ohh, that one, yeah. Click on the video while it's playing (before it hiccups) to pause it and give it a bit of time to load. It doesn't load so well if you try to watch it before it's had time to load a bit.

Thanks!

Magician Girl Mirani 05-22-2011 06:37 PM

That song is just perfect for The Master! It fits him in every way!

The Nineth Doctor was good, I definitely agree! One of my favourite lines in the whole of Nine's term as The Doctor is during the WW11 episode when they've just met Jack.

"He's just a bit more flexible when it comes to dancing."
I went back and rewatched teh episode and I just LOVED that quote! One of my all time favourites from Nine!

Cherry Who? 05-23-2011 07:37 PM

For you Torchwood lovers, here's the Miracle Day trailer.

... *sigh* :( It looks great, don't get me wrong, but it feels kind of different. Also

Season 2 and Children of Earth spoilersX

I miss the rest of the team.

KatMagenta 05-23-2011 08:05 PM

The uploader is a meanie and doesn't want 'my country' to see it but I found this video from Access Hollywood with a trailer in it. I'm still trying to reserve judgement until I see it properly, the trailer seemed pretty flashy and action packed but I'm hoping some of the Torchwood humour and 'edginess' (for want of a better word) is still there.

Cherry Who? 05-23-2011 08:09 PM

If it's not Torchwoody, I'm going to throw a fit. We only got 2ish seasons (season 3 didn't have enough episodes to count as a season >> Neither will this one), that's not enough of the awesomeness! :gonk:

Lost in Austen 05-24-2011 06:13 PM

Looks pretty good to me. But there's definitely something different about it. Maybe the fact that there's only one non-American?

Cherry Who? 05-24-2011 06:15 PM

And hey, where's Rhys?

Magician Girl Mirani 05-24-2011 06:20 PM

The Uploader's not making the stupid trailer available since I'm in Scotland (stupid mene) but I SWEAR if they ruin it I will PERSONALLY lead a revolution against RTD!!!!!!!! Who's with me? I People that're against this could always start a campaign or something or start one of those signature things on a cause website. I bet there'd be tonnes of people joining. Here's how I think it would go.

SPOILERX

Our demands are simple.
1) - BRING IANTO JONES BACK!!!!!
2) - DO NOT under ANY circumstances change Torchwood into a completely American show. That is half the appeal! It ISN'T just another American show. It's from the UK, made in Cardiff and they have no right to take that away from us!(the fans)
Who's with me? I'm gunna reserve judgement like what KatMagenta said but I just don't think it'll be as good without everyone's favourite Welshman.    [/HIDE]

KatMagenta 05-24-2011 07:22 PM

I live in Scotland too- I'm English though, whisper it- but I think YouTube counts the UK as a whole. XD
Trailer on DailyMotion. (via the Torchwood Twitter page) Full trailer looks more promising that what I'd seen.

I hadn't thought about poor Rhys. I hope Gwen doesn't just leave him behind while she runs off to be involved in many gun fights and explosions.

Some people in the thread haven't seen all/any of Torchwood so I think we tend to err on the side of caution where spoilers are involved.

On that note. Torchwood: CoE spoilers.X

Save Ianto is a long running campaign to bring Ianto back.

Truthfully, I think what's done is done (whether I like it or not) but they do work for charity and spread their message in a positive way rather than a backlash against any individuals so I can't fault them.

Magician Girl Mirani 05-24-2011 08:25 PM

Woohoo! Someone else from Scotland! That makes a nice change!

Still I think taht since the new season's set where it is they may run the risk of taking out what was good about the series in the first place. I hate it when that happens, when a series loses the edgy-ness that it originally had because it was changed to try and make it better.

Cherry Who? 05-24-2011 09:20 PM

I'm Scottish in heritage! Sure I've lived my entire life in America, but let me join the Scottish party!

Mirani - Wasn't Ianto English, though? He had originally worked for the Torchwood Institute's London HQ, but then that was destroyed in the battle of Canary Wharf, so he sought out the Cardiff location. He certainly didn't have a Welsh accent. Owen was Welsh, though... I think. The actor who played him isn't, though. Gwen and Rhys are the only actual Welsh characters played by Welsh actors.

Kat - Rhys was bumped up to a main character in Children of Earth, so I'd like to think that they'll keep him there for Miracle Day. I'm really tired of Whoniverse boyfriends (Mickey, Rory, Rhys in the first two seasons). They're treated like utter shit by their ladies and just serve as a foil to the woman's sexual tension between her and literally every other guy she sees. Ianto was the only guy on the show that Gwen didn't try to sleep with... that we saw.

Ssn 2 & CoE spoilersX

As much as I'd love it if Tosh, Owen, and Ianto were still there, I don't think there's any way that they could bring them back that wouldn't be kind of lame. Especially with Owen... he's already come back to life once before!

Magician Girl Mirani 05-24-2011 09:39 PM

Hmm...okay you can join the Scottish party -blows a party-popper- Welcome!

Nuh uh, Ianto was pure Welsh. I think he went to school in Oxford or something (it was one of the big universities) but if I remember right he grew up in New Port. I always thought Owen was a london-er.
...I'll look this up. I'm sure Ianto was Welsh though. His name in Welsh is basically like "John Smith" since 'Ianto' is like the Welsh version of 'John' and 'Jones' is about as common as 'Smith' (a fact illustrated by the fact that Martha Jones (one of the Doctor's companions) has the sane surname but they aren't related)

I think I agree with you about the boyfriends. It really isn't fair to them. It just seems like they're there to look good most of the time althoguh in teh latest ep Rory appears to be stepping up a bit more so that's nice to see. Don't get me wrong I love Amy's character but I wouldn't mind seeing Rory being a bit more asertive.

SPOILERX

Not sure if I should put this in a spoiler bar or not but better safe than sorry
There was one fanfiction that I read once that actually had a pualsible explanation for why Ianto could be brought back. Basically Jack was wollowing in his own missery (as we can expect after what happened) and then he meets The Doctor after about a year and The Doctor gets involved. Now since nothing can be changed as Jack is a fixed point in time then what The Doctor does is he goes back to Day 4 of CoE but he doesn't change anything. The TARDIS 'captures' Ianto's soul after he dies and The Doctor manages to snatch Ianto's body. After the whole Doctor's Wife thing it seems more plausible to me as the TARDIS gives Ianto a choice. He can either remain the way he is and die/move on or he can choose to be like Jack. It's a really sweet fic and I loved reading it. Hang on I'll find the link for you.
Ianto Lives Chapter 1, a Doctor Who and Torchwood crossover fanfic - FanFiction.Net
I love fanfiction. I've read a couple fix-it fics and 'it never happened' fics but I really liked this one. I think it was really well done, slightly out there but I still liked it. Plus at the beginning 'My Immortal' was playing in the background on my computer speakers so...yeah...I was a bit...weepy (to put it mildly) The fic is rated M but I'd say it's more a T. I've read other M fics and that is not an M as far as I can see. THe writer's just being cautious.

Cherry Who? 05-24-2011 09:45 PM

Ah, you're right, the actor who plays Ianto is Welsh. He didn't sound Welsh, though, so I guess that's what threw me.

SPOILERX

I don't think The Doctor is really in the business of bringing people back to life, though. That seems like the kind of thing that he'd be against.

Magician Girl Mirani 05-24-2011 09:51 PM

I thought so. Am I the ony one that's absolutely in LOVE with the Welsh accent? I don't know why but I just love it!
Well it probably helps that when I was younger in primary school I had a helper (cuz I'm half blind and I needed help when the teacher wrote stuff on the board and I couldn't see it or when I needed stuff read out to me from text books) and she's originally from Wales and has a REALLY strong Welsh accent. I practically grew up with her being like a grandmother/aunt figure for 8 years of my life (I had her for a year while I was in nursury/playgroup too) so that probably has something to do with it.

Actually for some reason I found it quite plausible. The way it was written really caught my imagination. I'm not sure exactly why (probably because I'm obsessed with Ianto and I hate seeing Jack with Gwen) but I loved it so much. I'm also a hopeless romantic at heart so that probably helped to. It's a really good fanfic though and I highly recommend it!

Mirani, please remember to use the spoiler tags. That is a pretty major spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen CoE.

I absolutely love the Welsh accent too.. and I thought Ianto had it? Am I remembering it wrong? I was sure he had at least a hint of it, and Owen definitely didn't..

CoE spoilersX

I agree that I can't see the Doctor bringing Ianto back, or any other way of him coming back to life. And frankly, I would probably be disappointed if they did, they've done that enough in Torchwood and I am of the opinion that no matter how sad it is when good characters die, that death should be final. Obviously the Doctor is an exception to this.. but for example, I am getting tired of the whole Rory-constantly-dying theme that seems to be going on in Doctor Who. It's making death to be not such a big deal because people keep coming back!

Magician Girl Mirani 05-26-2011 09:16 PM

ljosberinn: I supose you're right about that but that doesn't mean I still don't wish that it hadn't happened. Oh well.

And I'm pretty sure that Ianto had a Welsh accent. I grew up with a welsh person as my helper during primary school so I learnt to recognise it since I was about 5 years old.

Oh and I covered up the thingy with a spoiler. Sorry about that.

Cherry Who? 05-29-2011 04:26 AM

Just finished tonight's episode!

The Almost People SpoilersX

Thoughts, orangized in a nice bullet-point list due to my current inability to string them together into proper prose:
  • Hey, Rory didn't die! Instead, Amy did! Well, kinda.
  • For those that didn't put it together, the Doctor now knows he's going to die. Amy told him when she thought he was a 'Ganger. Oops.
  • Really liked how they tied this one in with the grand plot. How the Doctor knew why they were there all along and was there specifically for the Flesh. Explains how he knew what they were doing from the start (the "show me the main project" "what project?" "you know which one" conversation). I had been curious about that exchange, but I thought he was just bluffing.
  • Excited to see next week's when we learn where Amy is and why. When do you think she was taken?

And for those of you who have not yet seen tonight's episode, here's Ten being... uhm... a fish?

Magician Girl Mirani 05-29-2011 08:24 PM

SPOILERX

I know what you mean. I noticed that she'd told The Doctor about his own death adn my reaction was along the lines of...
"Uh oh...this can't be good,"
At least now we know why the scan was showing positive/negative. Maybe it was flashing because Amy was pregnant in her real body but not in the flesh/ganger body but the hormones and feelings were being transmitted to the flesh so taht it reacted as if it were pregnant but it actually wasn't? I think I'm making sense here but just let me know if I'm not.
I also liked how they tied it up. And the Doctor did say taht the molecular model may survive of The Doctor and the other Miranda so maybe we'll see him again and that's why he was shot? Well maybe it was the ganger that was shot but he'd been turned human like the other gangers so that's why? I dunno...I'll just keep guessing and speculating. That's all we can really do until next saturday.
Next week's episode is going to be brilliant!!!!

Cherry Who? 05-29-2011 09:12 PM

SPOILERX

I would guess that the 'Ganger could be the one who gets shot... or something like that. I highly doubt the Doctor will actually, really, and truly die.
