I wanted to learn Gallifreyan, you know, the language in the circles, to see if i could make sense of the doctor's monitors, what's on the fop watches, and the paper that was showed to Rassilon...

LonelyOtaku97 08-12-2011 02:38 AM

Learning Gallifreyan would be interesting. spoiler

The_Crow 08-12-2011 02:53 AM

LonelyOtaku: I think your second sentence might need to be put behind a spoiler tag.

I know what it wasX

The Doctor said it himself, that it was HIS name. So actually, if I could figure out Gallifreyan, I could figure out The Doctor's real name!

LonelyOtaku97 08-12-2011 03:00 AM

:evil:Oh sorry I thought everyone saw that episode. O.o my roommate keeps interrupting me while watch Doctor Who

The_Crow 08-12-2011 03:06 AM

To my knowledge anything in series/season 6 needs to be behind a spoiler bar, and maybe series/season 5 to. Anything with the 9th and 10th doctors is "safe", though.

LonelyOtaku97 08-12-2011 03:10 AM

Aw ok what about fourth doctor?

The_Crow 08-12-2011 03:11 AM

All "Classic Who" is okay, to my knowledge as well.

LonelyOtaku97 08-12-2011 03:24 AM

aw ok well I'm watching an episode were the fourth doctor fights a sontaran

Cherry Who? 08-12-2011 05:42 AM

I don't think it's even possible to learn circular Gallifreyan (or any other Gallifreyan, for that matter). I doubt the writers have sat down and created an entire language. That sort of thing takes an extremely long time.

The_Crow 08-12-2011 05:44 AM

Shh... don't ruin my fun delusion, Cherry. :ninja:

LonelyOtaku97 08-12-2011 05:46 AM

Its in the books I read. at the beggining of each chapter it has the gallifreyan language

The_Crow 08-12-2011 06:02 AM

Maybe just settle for Klingon, Crow?

I saw a post on Buzzfeed with a side by side comparison of a Llama and Matt Smith.

Moxie 08-12-2011 09:52 AM

Maybe if you were really dedicated you could learn Galifreyan. But, I would guess that they were not consistent with the language throughout the series.

ljosberinn 08-12-2011 01:45 PM

Regarding spoilers: Crow is right in that anything 11th Doctor as well as all Torchwood should be considered spoilery. Obviously I'm not talking about things that don't really matter, but I'm hoping you already knew that.
For 9 and 10, I wouldn't be too strict, but still be careful, because there are a few people here who haven't seen all of it. If there are massive spoilers you want to discuss, be careful, or if you're not sure, then better safe than sorry and put them behind the spoiler bar, with a spoiler-free description of what you're discussing (ie. "season 2 finale spoilers"). I wouldn't want anyone have major surprises ruined for them, that's all. :)

Also, learning Gallifreyan would be amazing. I wish they would make it a proper language and make it available for learning, like Klingon and Elvish!

KatMagenta 08-12-2011 02:40 PM

Yes, I was going to mention Elvish, I have a couple of friends who have at least made attempts to learn it.

Cherry, do you wish you could hug every cat? ;)

LonelyOtaku97 08-12-2011 04:18 PM

This Kinda reminds me of big bang theory. were Sheldon said he could speak klingon or something like that.

Cherry Who? 08-12-2011 06:09 PM

There... might have been a time when I was learning Klingon. :ninja:

Kat - :gonk:

LonelyOtaku97 08-13-2011 12:58 AM

How can anyone learn klingon? I can't learn Italian

Lost in Austen 08-13-2011 01:18 AM

Ooh, I know some Elvish! errr, used to. I've forgotten most of it now. But there was a time (about 5 years back) when I was even pretty knowledgeable on the grammar structure. I even attempted translating a few of my poems into Sindarin. Unfortunately, though, there just aren't enough vocab words available, even in those "Elvish Dictionaries" you find online. In fact, after a while people just started making up words and hoping nobody would notice!! *sigh* But then there's David Salo, that guy who was in charge of all the Elvish lines in the Lord of the Rings movies. I have no idea how he managed to become fluent. He must have seriously scoured everything J. R. R. Tolkien ever wrote, even the unpublished works. (Well, they've been published now, but back when the LotR movies were being produced, they hadn't.)

FireOnix 08-13-2011 01:33 AM

does anyone have a favorite Dr? if so who?

it can be any of them if you've seen the original series

:) just curious

Lost in Austen 08-13-2011 01:59 AM

Right now I don't have a favorite Doctor. I mean, I've seen episodes with Four, Five, Nine, Ten, and Eleven, and I love them all in different ways! They're all the Doctor, after all. :)

FireOnix 08-13-2011 02:12 AM

no of course. but does one kind of stand out more then the others? that one might be your favorite.

Lost in Austen 08-13-2011 02:16 AM

Umm, well I suppose it's still Ten. But Eleven is really growing on me a LOT. He's gonna pass Ten pretty soon if he doesn't stop being so frikkin' awesome. :XD

What about you?
