Kat, isn't most anime illegal in the UK right now. Since they passed that ban?

ljosberinn 05-20-2010 01:33 AM

Andrew-Lee Potts! *swoons* <3
I only know him from Alice, but I've had a huge crush on him since I saw him in that. Maybe I should start digging up other things starring him...

Anime is illegal in the UK? What ban is that?

Ok let me clarify, from what I heard a ban was passed down that any anime/manga viewed/read that contains any nudity or sexualization of a person under the age of 18 is illegal. Offenders are given a hefty fine and 3 years in prison
That's just what I understand. If that's true Love Hina is banned, Dragonball and DBZ are banned, Elfen Lied, Outlaw Star you get the idea.

Lost in Austen 05-20-2010 11:08 AM

Yeah...... most anime/manga has some elements of that in it. Or am I generalizing? But most manga I've ever picked up in the bookstore and started to read has been kind of........ yeah. "I, My, Me, Strawberry Eggs"? lol.

KatMagenta 05-20-2010 02:11 PM

I've had a quick search online but since I'm not half as intelligent as you'd need to be to interpret the laws correctly I don't really think I can comment fairly based on the speculation of others. My flat mate is a far greater animé fan than me (I've watched very little outside the 'cartoons' I watched as a child) so I'll wait and see if she gets us arrested for her Elfin Lied DVDs.

I'm more likely to get arrested/have my internet suspended under the Digital Economy Bill for watching any animé (or other copyrighted material) in the first place because our laws are all so vague.

ljosberinn 05-20-2010 03:07 PM

Ah yes, I remember hearing about that before it was passed, in relation to Alan Moore's Lost Girls. I forgot to follow news on it though so I didn't know it had been passed.. sounds like it wasn't entirely thought through at any rate. As is the case with a lot of laws.

KatMagenta 05-21-2010 02:22 PM

There are similar laws regarding virtual child pr0n (I'm wary typing the real word in that phrase whilst on my university's network) in the US from what it seems. :/

In happier news: Neil Gaiman and his Doctor Who script (+ Richard Curtis and Steven Moffat) via @neilhimself. I'm excited already.

Again this is related to the podcast I co-run, I was checking the feedback email about an hour ago when I received this:

Lost in Austen 05-21-2010 05:42 PM

Who sent you that?

"Duck pond"? lol. Is that really important...?

Sixkiller 05-21-2010 06:36 PM

Some guy sent it in to my podcast's feedback address.

Duck Pond is a reference to the first episode where he says "What is that?" "A Duck Pond" ect and then later in Flesh and Stone he's going off again "You not remembering the Daleks no one in London remembering a fifty foot Cyber King a duck pond with out ducks. Yes, it's all coming together!"
There's a weird kooky theory on the DW Forums that it's a coded message sent back from the future by the Doctor to Amy. Get it? Duck, Pond!

Lost in Austen 05-21-2010 07:10 PM

Wow!! I never thought of that! Not so kooky, actually. I mean, remember his message in the wallpaper to Sally Sparrow? :XD I love when that sort of stuff happens in Doctor Who.

TaiyoTsuki 05-21-2010 08:13 PM

Same here! Something like that happened in Torchwood. Wasn't it when Jack got buried alive by his brother and wound up dug up by early-1900s Torchwood operatives? That episode was freaky....

O.o? Melfina had to get naked every time she was in the glass thing to pilot the ship or what ever she did in there. Also the hot springs episode Toonami cut from the line up because of all the nudity

Lost in Austen 05-22-2010 09:39 PM

I have yet to read a manga that did not talk about sex all the time. Even in "Bleach"... that little stuffed lion that's obsessed with the girls' body parts? He's a freaking STUFFED ANIMAL. I found it disturbing. lol.

So.... all you lucky British peeps... Was the new Doctor Who episode good?

Sixkiller 05-22-2010 11:05 PM

I'm going to watch it later tonight or tomorrow. Oh wait I'm not British so I guess that question doesn't apply to me ;>.>

Lost in Austen 05-22-2010 11:47 PM

Lol. I posted that before it had been uploaded onto any web sites. So at that time, only British people woulda been able to watch it. Anyway, I'm watching it right now online... pretty interesting so far!!

x-cutie-x-pie-x 05-22-2010 11:47 PM

I'm watching 'The Hungry Earth' [ep. 8] Right now. It's really laggy ;o; Maybe it's cause I have like -counts- 11 tabs up :']

KatMagenta 05-23-2010 10:33 AM

I've downloaded it to desktop iPlayer so I'll probably watch it when I get back to the flat. I have a freeview box which can record so I set that up to record it then when I left the flat I turned the power off at the wall. ¬_¬

Sixkiller 05-23-2010 02:15 PM

I just finished it. I actually enjoyed it. It wasn't as scary as, say, Time of Angels but I still enjoyed it. It was a good story and I thought Matt Smith and Rory were at their best, not of all season but definitely great acting all around.

lonelyotaku 05-23-2010 10:55 PM

Darn this sucks since I don't have ondemand in my room downstairs I can't watch doctor who it really sucks alot anyway what are the next episodes titles?

Sixkiller 05-24-2010 12:22 AM
