In Cairo

CAIRO

Hello, everyone. This is my hangout thread. I guess I will start by explaining a few things.

This thread is named In Cairo because, as you can see, I love Egypt. More so, I love Ancient History of almost any kind. *Thanks alot, Thorn. <rolls eyes> I swear, that girl can convert me to almost anything.* Anyway...This is a hang out thread, and not necessarily a history discussion thread. But if you want to discuss history, you can. Now, about myself:

~I am a 16 year old female.
~I love history*, singing, writing, and boys.
~I am LDS (Latter Day Saint, otherwise known as Mormon)
~I like neon colors.
~I like manatees and elephants.
~Oh, and I am a Type A personality. I like things to be perfect. Like, I dont like to write in pen in case I mess up and I always have to have things spelled right, and I don't like things crooked or uneven. Things like that. *Nothing to worry about in chats, though. It's mainly at school that I'm OCD.*

*The history that I like includes: Egyptian, Mayan, Incan, Aztecan, Omec, Native American, Mythology of any kind (Greek, Roman, Scandanavian, Chinese, Japanese, etc.), 17/1800's (with the fancy dresses and the balls. Like Pride and Prejudice). I guess alot of it is the ones with the heiroglyphics and cave paintings and all that. Oh, and Stone Hedge (Henge? Major Brain Cramp)

Okay, now for some rules, just in case.

RULES

  • Follow TOS
  • Respect others
  • Have fun

I reserve the right to ban anyone who ends up being more of a nuisance than we would like.

Okay, now...I now declare this thread OPEN!

Hello! I adoreee Ancient Egypt! > 3<
I sincerely cannot wait until I get the chance to see the sands that the great Pharaohs once walked upon!!!
And the pyramids their bodies were lain to rest in!!

Mmmm True history, and ingenuity lies in the sands of the Egyptian desert ^_^

Sforzando 11-29-2008 06:49 AM

Hello, Green. How are you?

I just thought I'd start a thread for all those history buffs out there. Or maybe just people who want to talk. So....yeah.

ARGY 12-01-2008 02:16 AM

Finally a history thread. I have a friend who refers everything that he says to egypt and it turned me off for awhile but since I haven't seen him in a while I'm better. I also like greek mythology.

Sforzando 12-01-2008 05:11 AM

Yes, I love any type of mythology. From Greek, to Roman, Norwegian, Chinese, a tiny bit of Japanese... Any type of history that is not the history of America, (unless you count Native American. I love them too). I just find it annoying to study the history of America.

())__Green__))> 12-01-2008 05:13 AM

I am absolutely in LOVE with Greek Mythology!
I partially attribute that to my name :sarcasm:
-cough-Athena-cough-

Lol but I've always loved History in general. ;)

Sforzando 12-01-2008 05:18 AM

I know a girl named Athena. I really don't like her.

Anyway. It's nothing against you. I'm quite fond of the name Persephone, myself.

*chuckles to self.* I'm Norwegian, and I was just thinking over Norwegian Myths, and I don't really think any of those names would work for a normal person. Audumbla (or something like that) is one of the female names. I believe that is the goddess of ice cream. She takes the form of a cow. Or maybe its something else. I can't remember what teh goddess of Ice cream's name was. Maybe Audumbla was teh goddess of love. Ack, I can't think right now. I'll go look in my book of knowledge later.

Suzhi Mix 12-01-2008 05:19 AM

hello tut' ^_^ wassup??

ARGY 12-01-2008 05:24 AM

Good Suzhi mix

The only Australia one I know is the bunyip and you can't really name some "Bunyip".
I agree Tut'ankhamun that American history isn't that interesting. No offense to Americans.

Suzhi Mix 12-01-2008 05:32 AM

*salutes, and agrees with ARGY*

yeah.. personally i love Scandinavian myths, and greek, eqyptian & persian mythology.. american history (by this i mean when the europeans came over, not native american) is boring..

())__Green__))> 12-01-2008 05:35 AM

-is laughing her american patootie off-

It's so tru though!

I'm not exactly EAGER to name my kid after a man with wooden teeth, a man who thought tall hats make you look smexy, or a man with a poorly hidden toupee.....

Lol we're boring... BUT we have spoldeys!!! > -< -lights a firecracker-

Suzhi Mix 12-01-2008 05:38 AM

*throws confetti* w00t!

ooh, have you ever been to egypt, tut'? or anyone for that matter...

ARGY 12-01-2008 05:40 AM

I agree with that Green. Americans aren't bad people just there history is boring.
Where in America are you from?

@Suzhi - Unfortunately not. I want to see it in its glory all those thousands of years ago.

())__Green__))> 12-01-2008 05:42 AM

Oh boy lol..
I was born in California, raised in California, Arizona, Washington, and Kentucky...
>.> I'm currently in KY lol

now EARLY American history is AMAZING.
The Cherokee, the Sioux especially... LOVE Sioux history!!!
Apache is good to lol xD

Suzhi Mix 12-01-2008 05:46 AM

that is true.. native american history is amazing.. too bad most of it was in oral stories, and what not, rather than written..

ARGY 12-01-2008 05:46 AM

Don't get me wrong I love the history of Native Americans it is some of the most interesting history to study.

())__Green__))> 12-01-2008 05:50 AM

Lol yeah, that is sort of a shame..
But really it added on to the splendor..
Like playing telephone with a hundred people, you keep making it bigger and bigger lol
^_^

Suzhi Mix 12-01-2008 05:54 AM

yeah.. every time we hear about how the whites came and killed all the indians, it makes me sad.. partly because of the people who died, but also because of the lost culture..

ARGY 12-01-2008 05:58 AM

I feel even more sad because I am white. And it disgust me that I am part of a kind that eliminates threats just for land or for the hell of it. Especially since I admire alot of the past cultures.

())__Green__))> 12-01-2008 05:59 AM

I'm 1/8 Nazi [not just german, my family is of the Berghoffs.. One of Hitler's top families -.-]
And over a quarter cherokee lol xD
I just wish I knew more about my Cherokee side lol from someone living xD

I LOVE the history that comes with my family lol xD

Suzhi Mix 12-01-2008 06:02 AM

yeah.. *stares at own somewhat white skin* genocide is horrible.. and just killing cause someone is different..
Its even worse to think that stuff like that is still happening today, even if its in a much smaller scale..

EDITT: @green: ooh, thats cool! we traced back our family, and I'm a descendant of Harald Blåtand..

ARGY 12-01-2008 06:07 AM

Wow that is some history in your family.
I'm related to Mary Queen of Scots, the one that got beheaded. Even though she didn't have children her brothers and sisters did. That's on my great grandfathers side. On my great grandmothers side her grand father and family were escapees from germany and changed their name because of the first world war so it is very hard to track back her side. Virtually impossible.

Suzhi Mix 12-01-2008 06:10 AM

ooh, everyone has interesting heritage. i love stuff like this.. 2 weeks ago, i found out i was related to my friend, cause she was related to gorm den gamle..
german escapees, or jewish? (if you dont mind me asking)

ARGY 12-01-2008 06:15 AM

They were german convicts actually.

())__Green__))> 12-01-2008 09:03 PM

Lol yeah.. On my father's side, I'm related to Colonal Sanders FC's creator]; and One of the explorers who traveled with Davey Crockett..
On my mother's side, I'm related to Radar, from M*A*S*H*. [The TV series on the War ages ago lol xD Good show]

Other than that, the only other famous person I'm related to would be Bill Clinton, but I don't really like to admit that one... [He's like... a 3rd cousin, removed once or somthing like that. ugh lol]
