If you could have ANY animal for a pet.....{Please read disclaimer}

Okay so here's the question. If you could have ANY animal you wanted to for a pet what would it be and why.

First I've always wanted a tiger. My mom used to know this guy that owned a tatoo shop in Chicago, and he had two tiger and a huge snake that lived in the basement.....oddly enough I think it was the snake that tried to eat his arm.:sarcasm:

Second, I think it would be cool to have a giraffe. Not sure why it just would.

Keep in mind that this a hypothetical question. So there would be no issue of domesticating.

Jecynecy, I think you should mention in your first post that keeping wildlife as pets is bad idea and illegal in many countries. I know this thread is just for fun, but it'd probably be a good thing to put as a disclaimer, just in case someone who reads this thread gets any funny ideas.

And sorry, I don't mean to ruin the fun. I know this is just a hypothetical what-if thread. >.<.........

I think wild animals should stay in the wild. Tigers and other big cats require way too much maintenance. I would want to have a corn snake or a king snake. My mom's afraid of snakes so I can't have one right now. I have everything else I want for a pet.

If I had the resources to take care of any animal as a pet, I think I'd really enjoy the company of anyone in the large cat family. I've always adored cats.

I'd love a panther and a leopard especially, they are such sleek and beautiful animals.

a baby dragon, or a miniature dragon, like lizard sizes or soemthing, I would just find it amazing to have a cute dragon.

If I could have any pet, I would want a wolf, or more likely a wolf/dog. I wouldn't want to take a wolf out of the wild just so I could keep it.

I was just at the zoo last night, and I realized it would be pretty cool to have a bat for a pet. Not a vampire bat mind you, I can't stand those guys. I would want a fruit bat. They're so cute.

Also, a red panda would be awesome. They're pretty small and from what I've seen, very playful. One of them would be so cool.

But I've got enough pets so these are all dreams.

eheh...

I'd have a hard time picking. I just kind of like all animals.
(sounds better then 'I can't make up my mind huh?' )
Well, thats not entirely true. I don't like spiders. At All. I don't kill them cause I'm too scared to get close enough...

After all the stories I hear about wild animals having to be rescued from people who have too much money and too little intelligence, I'm not so sure I'd like to have a wild animal. Elephants are my favorite animal, but I don't think I'd have the ability to keep up with it's maitenance even if I could afford to have one. So I'll stick with my regular cats. If you think about it, they're really quite amazing themselves. They just aren't as novel because we see them constantly.

If I would have the money for it, I'd move to Norway, build myself a house such as the gnome hovel in another thread (too lazy to look for it right now) and have a pack of wolves for pets. :3 I wouldn't want to keep a lone wolf (or even a pair) in a city because they wouldn't be able to move around much, and I think they'd be bored out of their minds in such a situation. In a perfect world, the wolves would sleep in my house and be let out when I go to work, then return when I get back. Thay way they would get enough exercise and they would be able to hunt their own prey, so that'd save a lot in food costs :XD They would also be perfectly docile to me and my family, but defensive against intruders.

Any animal right?

Pterodactyl.

Why?

Because you get to say, "This is my Pterodactyl. His name is Petey. He eats your pets... and small children."

Candycaneslippers 12-20-2008 04:12 PM

I would just keep my dog xD

oHsoDemandinG 12-20-2008 04:21 PM

I want a baby turtle that stayed a baby forever...or a tiger or some other big cat.

Celeone 12-20-2008 06:51 PM

I would want a pinguin if it was possible x3 They're just cute, that's all.

Cherry Who? 12-20-2008 09:11 PM

Guinea pigs or a kitty.
It's nothing exotic, I know. But I really really REALLY want a kitty. I had one all my life, but he passed on earlier this year, and mom isn't "ready" to get a new kitty. But I'm really lonely without one.

I could say I want some wild and exotic animal, but really, they're wild and exotic for a reason. If they could be domesticated to point where it would be only as dangerous as a dog, they would have done it already. Sure, there are a few lions out there that know a human or two that they PROBABLY would not bite the face off of, but there's no guarantee.
I don't want a pet that I have to be careful around. I want one that will cuddle with me and love me and be my little furry buddy.

Veris 12-20-2008 10:09 PM

So long as I could properly take care of them, I would want a pair of leopards. 1 Kitty just isn't enough, everyone needs a playmate =^.^=

Ivan 12-20-2008 11:38 PM

I'd take my rabbit with me and buy a pig.

I would feel safe with a pig. I'm not sure why. They just seem like they could be vicious enough to take out a murderer or something.

Walkyrje 12-20-2008 11:49 PM

The problem with non-domesticated animals is that they often don't recognize humans as part of their family, even if the humans raised them. Or, as with wolves, part of their family dynamic is competing for primacy, establishing who's the boss through violent measures. It's not much consolation that your bear was just being a bear when he's accidently ripped half your face off while trying to establish dominance.

That being said, I've heard that cheetahs actually do make good companion animals. Not pets in the modern sense, but companions for hunters and so on, because they accept humans as part of their pride, and don't compete violently with them, if they're raised by humans from cubs.

I think I'll be sticking with your standard domestic animals, though. I'm thinking about adopting a retired racing greyhound, after I graduate.

If I could have any animal for a pet, I would choose... probably a Peregrine Falcon. One that was trained. It's kinda unimaginative, but those birds are pretty cool.

Walkyrje 12-21-2008 01:31 AM

In most places in the US, you have to have special licenses to do falconry. There are, however, raptor rescue groups in many places that are often looking for volunteers... and they'd give you some insight into whether falconry is really for you.

I always wanted a white tiger. They are so beautiful but I'm not sure they would want to cuddle and play with me.

I also want a chinchilla. They are so soft and fluffy. :]

Your Boy Toy 12-21-2008 02:25 AM

I would want one of four things.~ { All of them domesticated of course. }

- A Wolf, Cause I love Big dogs, And a tamed wolf would be so much fun to play with, cuddle, and a great protector. Not to mention wolves are so....wolfy.

- A Fox, For nearly the same reasons as a wolf, but much more cuddles, and much more cute.

- A Lion, Who doesn't want a big loveable king of the jungle in their bedroom? 8D

- A Dolphin, They are so much fun! They could swim me around, and save me from drowning, if trained properly. Who wouldn't love that? 8D

Any animal?
A unicorn. Or a Chinese dragon.
But those are mythical, of course.

I think, of any pet in the world that I could have, it would have to be something adorably and disgustingly dwarfish and cute like a sugar glider, or an elephant. I absolutely love elephants. They seem so majestic and powerful.

Hard to keep in your apartment, though. And not really suited to sleeping on the bed next to you... one roll-over incident, and squish!

By the bye, that color you're using for your text is very hard to read.

MirukuKuroNeko 12-21-2008 02:50 AM

White Tiger!!!!(with red eyes, albino i guess...)
^-^

Evanrai 12-21-2008 03:06 AM

Panthers all the way. i love cats and the bigger the more hugable. There's also the fact that they could scare away just about anyone^^

Hehe! That made me laugh, I don't usually laugh from typing. :] Ah, hilarious. Or a messed up sense of humor. But elephants are amazing...

And she may be using a mac. On mine, I can read it fine. (cause I have a mac. x_ x)
