Silver Door {Open! - Apply in our OOC thread.}
~Welcome to the Silver Door~ ((Several inches of snow on the ground. Strong gusty winds. Temperatures in the single digits with a wind chill of below zero.)) ((The time of month is late December.)) On the outskirts of a dying city, there is a large building a distance off from the nearest road snugly surrounded by trees. The street leading to it is gravel, and it doesn't seem to be a part of anything significant. The paint on the door is unscathed, and a highly reflective silver. Walking up to the doorknob, any curious soul would discover that the door is unlocked, and leads into a dimly lit bar. It doesn't belong to me. Beyond the bar is a dark hallway that leads to many rooms. However, the atmosphere of the place clearly speaks to any travelers within that one must have permission to walk down this hallway. The liquor is behind the bar counter, where the owner can often be seen. Come, rest a while. Have a drink, eat a meal, relax and partake in some conversation. Don't be shy, the owner doesn't bite...usually. Those are the characters that existed in the old version of this roleplay on another site. And, because of past experiences... 1) There are no couches in the bar area. 2) There isn't a rug in the bar area except for on the floor behind the bar counter. 3) The hallway leading off to the rooms is very dimly lit. Not well lit. 4) There aren't menus on the tables. 5) Technology doesn't work in the inn or on the grounds. In fact, it doesn't work throughout most of the city. There are no exceptions within the inn, however. So no having your character use cellphones, or whip out a laptop and surf the internet. Those things aren't possible here. Rules 1) Follow the ToS. 2) This is a LITERATE roleplay. Which means the following: - Use proper capitalization. - Use proper grammar (character speech doesn't necessarily count as speech patterns don't always follow grammar). - Spell out your words. I mean it. No chatspeak in your in character posts. I mean it. - Use double spaced paragraph form. - Please try to spell your words correctly. I understand you might not know how to spell a few words, but try within the best of your ability to spell them, or ask out of character if that's how you spell the word. - Use proper punctuation. None of those ten line paragraphs that consist of a single sentence. - Try to use the right word. 'Where' is a location, 'were' is a past-tense ("We were best friends but we grew apart.) and 'we're' means 'we are'. - I realize for a lot of people English is a second language. You will still be held to the same standards of everyone else, so please don't use the fact that English might be your second language as an excuse for not following the literacy rules. - Quality over quantity. A four paragraph post is only good if it's written well. It's better to write well than to write a lot. 3) This thread's and the roleplay's rules will be enforced. If you have a problem with this then you shouldn't post. 4) If you play the twelve year old boy with a dark past who wants to avenge his dead father, or the pretty little vampiress that always gets her way, then this isn't the place for you. Leave your Mary Sues/Gary Stus at the door. 5) No hijacking. Leave your torch-wielding mobs, pissed off armies, and all other forms of militia far away. If you pull a hijacking you'll be banned from the thread and possibly reported for trolling. 6) Because of multiple and very bad experiences in the past, no pregnant characters or children under the age of three are allowed unless you've been given permission beforehand. 7) Human characters are just that: human. That means they don't have powers at all. 8) Original characters only. If you roleplay using an anime/book/TV/movie/manga/comic book/video game character, then go find somewhere else to play. This is a non-fandom based roleplay and only non-fandom characters are allowed. 9) You will respect me and the thread regulars. 10) Don't spend six paragraphs describing your character's outfit. That's basically spamming, and very annoying. 11) Please don't use insanely bright font colors as they cause eyes to spontaneously combust. 12) Don't post here at all whatsoever unless you've been accepted into the roleplay. You can apply for the roleplay by going to the OOC thread. If you post here and haven't been accepted, a moderator will be asked to delete your post. 13) Do not godmode. 14) More rules will be added as necessary. Check back often. 15) If you leave your character in an area other than their room and others are roleplaying in that area, your character becomes an NPC. To avoid this, characters will be sent back to their rooms (or 'reset') if there's activity going on around them or potential for activity. |

Magnus sat behind the bar counter, writing in a large leather bound journal. His long black hair was pulled back at the base of his neck, and his equally long bangs rested on either side of his face, falling in front of his shoulders. After several more minutes of writing who only knows what, he closed the journal and slipped it under the bar counter, then made his way over to a table along the wall somewhat close to the fireplace.
"So what are you thinking about?" Magnus asked, sitting down next to the woman already occupying the table. She looked up at him, a little surprised that he'd sat next to her. Reaching up to tuck a lock of dark brown hair behind her ear, she glanced out the window into the dark night outside. She had pulled the thick drape away from the window in order to see outside. "Just wondering if maybe we shouldn't move on," she replied quietly. "Why's that?" "Well, there's really nothing here for us anymore," she sighed. "That may be so, but there's noting for us anywhere else, either," Magnus told her. "Now is there, Athena?" "I guess not... Maybe I'm just getting cranky from being locked up in here all the time with you." Magnus chuckled, "Maybe so." |
Romeo walked in the door, the frigid winter air whipping his hair all around him and making the tail ends of his black and green scarf flap around wildly. He knocked the snow off of his combat boots on the wall without making too much noise and took off his leather jacket, laying it over his left arm while he made his way to the nearest fireplace on the opposite side of the main room. He stood there for a short amount of time warming himself up before heading over to the bar counter to order a drink.

Magnus began to get up, only to have Athena touch his shoulder in a way that told him to stay put. She got up and walked behind the counter, making the man's request.
"Can't say we get many people here," she said, putting the drink in front of him. "Is there anything else you need? Looks like you could use more than just alcohol to warm you up. How about a meal?" |
"That would be marvelous. I've been walking for a while and haven't seen any place to eat recently."
Romeo looked around the room as he laid his leather jacket on his lap. Getting his cell phone out of his pocket to notice that there were no bars of signal still and NOW the screen was doing funny things. He scowled and put it back in his jacket. He looked up to the woman in front of him and smiled. "What's on the menu?" |
"Anything you'd like if we have it. Just ask and I'll let you know if we can make it for you or not," Athena replied with a soft smile. It didn't look quite right on her face, she seemed like the kind of woman who rarely ever smiled...

"I think I'm in need of some iron. I'll take anything beef that you have. Spaghetti, meatloaf, stirfry... whatever. Just suprise me with whatever you like best from that specific type of animal." He smiled back at her and started taking off his scarf to reveal the Ramones t-shirt he had on underneath.

Athena nodded at him. "I'll see what I can do for you." Slipping through the solid wood swinging door, she vanished unseen into the kitchen.
A door opened somewhere behind the bar, and a few minutes later a man in his twenties stepped out into the bar with a stack of books. "I'm gonna take these up with me," he told Magnus quietly. Magnus looked up at him and nodded, watching the man leave through the dark hallway. |
Romeo turned to Magnus, smiling with his eyebrows raised up and pointed in the direction that the man in his twenties had come from.
"You guys have a library back there or something?" |
"There's one on every floor," Magnus said with a nod. "There are also lounges."
Athena came out of the kitchen with a large bowl of thick beef stew with large portions of beef and vegetables. "It was made about an hour ago but it's still very hot. I hope you don't mind that it was already made." She sat the bowl down in front of him then reached into a drawer to pull out a fork and a spoon to allow him to choose which he preferred. |
"Any food is good when you're hungry." He said the words while watching her set down the bowl. "But I'm sure it would be good even if I wasn't famished. It smells wonderful even if it was cooked a while ago. Soup usually doesn't lose much of it's decadence even after it's been reheated." He took both the spoon and the fork out of her hands and bowed his head for an apology. "I'll wash the dishes later if I'm using too much silverware. I've got a bad habit of using both for chunky soups and soups with noodles."
He looked down the long dark hallway in which the other man dissapeared to and wondered if this was more than just a bar. It seemed rather extensive, several stories and maybe he could even stop here for a while if they had rooms available. He wondered how much they were and flipped open his wallet to find out how much cash they had. He didn't see a credit card machine or ATM anywhere and he wanted to make sure he had enough money at least for a night's stay if that's what it took. "Do you have rooms available as well? And is there an ATM machine anywhere around the surrounding area?" |
