I ask that no one else post in this threat, and thank you for respecting that.
Character: Name: Vance Age:21 Biography: Vance is an actor who dreams of publishing his own play. But being in an age where the plague is running a muck about, and death is in the air makes it hard to being a playwriter. Vance is a semi-good actor with aspirations to be better, and one of the best in the world. He hopes to one day be part of the group that performs for the king. Appearance:http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...irl/trowa1.jpg Name : Charlotte Lottie Nickname: little Lottie Age : 20 Bio: Charlotte is a calm and proper young women; at least when she needs to be. She spent most of her nights sneaking out to the globe theater. It seemed completed from the outside, but the inside was still far from done. The local actors and writers gathered most night telling stories of their trade. Their stories were the reason she snuck away. Listening to their tales of travel, and the plays they preformed for kings and queens made her dream of living their life. Charlotte’s only problem was the fact she was a girl, and everyone knew only men were allowed to act. After some time she befriended many writers and others involved in performing arts. They’d come to call her little Lottie since she was significantly younger than they were. Still no matter how young she was to them it didn’t change how her parents saw her. Charlotte was under pressure at home. Being twenty and unmarried was unheard of for a girl during this time. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be married, but she just didn’t care for them men her parents brought home. Charlotte had her head in the clouds longing for a romantic like the ones she read about in books. It wasn’t her suitors fault she was picky. Vance looked around the stage, getting in costume. The actors could not peer out behind the curtains because then the people who watched the play could guess the play. All to be done in England was to watch the plays, simply because the plague had started going around.
Vance thought about his own career as a one day writer. As he always did when performing. The curtains started to open, it was time to act for the royals. |
Charlotte sat next to her parents in udder boredom. They were invited to this by another member of their family. Going to formal parties and having her mother introduce her to one male after another wasn't her way to spend a night. The only good part of tonight was the play, but it was taking forever to start. Thus her apparent boredom.
Once the play began Charlotte couldn't help but smile. She gave the play her full attention and forgot everything else. |
The play evolved around a dinner party, and battles of words between two fighting families. Vance played the father of two of the daughters who were of the Calbret family, so he had a lot of speaking parts. He spoke to the 3 sons and other father on the opposing side.
"Now gentlemen I have 2 daughters here, and after all this feuding your family expects me to give you my 2 daughters hands in marriage to 2 of your 3 sons? Ha!" Vance scoffed arrogantly. He chuckled and stared at the other actors across the table. |
Charlotte couldn't help but lean forward and rest her elbows on the table. Immersed in the show and forgetting her manners.
Her mother pulled her back into the chair softly. The last thing she wanted was her daughter to seem unrefined. Charlotte looked other at her mother quickly getting the message. Sitting properly she continued to watch the play. She was surprised to see such a young man playing an important roll, but he was a brilliant actor none the less. She believe the emotion his character gave and that meant everything in acting. |
"Well sir, with all respect, I do ask that you consider my proposal." The other actor said.
" I shall consider it, but I may make no promises in returning a pleasant response. I will have someone send you the answer at a point." Vance said in the voice his character required, which was a soprano with a British accent. The two parties stood up and shook hands, the father Carington led the other family to the "door" and shut the "door" softly. Returning to the two daughters asking what they thought of the gentlemen. |
Charlotte didn't care much for the sons, and so she wanted the daughters to decline. Though she couldn't say what the characters would do. It was intriguing to watch, but she really wanted to leave. It wasn't that the play was bad, she just didn't like her nights tied up at royal party. The dress her mother made her wear was starting to cause her pain, and her feet hurt from the heals.
"Mother can we go?" Charlotte whispered in hopes her father wouldn't cut in. But she could only be so lucky. He hushed her and gave her a look she knew all to well. It meant she wouldn't leave till he said so. Defeated Charlotte went back to watching the play. |
Night's turned into days in the play and eventually the father sent out a reply, declining the invitation at his daughters hand in marriage. The other family was furious, and planned revenge.
One day later at a town gathering, father Carington died of poison because of the sons. And with Vance's death, the curtains closed. They opened again to reveal the cast, bowing towards a clapping crowd. Vance stepped forward and bowed two times with the 2 so called daughters. |
Charlotte smiled clapping to slow her enjoyment. Once they were done bowing Charlotte was free to get up from the table. It was a long night so she pleaded with her mother to leave. Finally she gave in and Charlotte quickly slipped out a back door before her father could say other wise. Once she was outside she looked around for a carriage, but none seemed to have drivers near by. It wasn't unlikely they party was due to continue for another hour or so they must have been having a party of their own.
It was a short ride home so it shouldn't have been that long of a walk. Impatient as she was at this point she started walking home. It shouldn't have taken more than ten minuets, but it was a long ten minuets when it started to rain. |
Vance walked out of the theater and hopped into a carriage, driving past Charlotte, not knowing that she was one of the people attending the play. He was silently concentrating on writing his script to his play. It was starting to come along.
The carriage bumped along, he didn't want to know what he had hit. |
Charlotte watched the carriage drive by and hit a puddle that had formed in a pothole. The water slashed up soaking Charlotte.
"Hey!" She shouted as she looked down to her dress a complete mess. It hadn't been raining that hard, but it was just her luck to find the puddle. She was less than two blocked from home so it wasn't that bad, but her mother was going to flip at the sight. Charlotte sighed as she started to walk again. "People shouldn't be driving that fast when its raining." She complained knowing it was just her letting off steam. |
Vance heard the shout and ordered the cart to a stop and called out to the back "Sorry! Uhhh, are you okay?" He didn't look his head out from the carriage, and continued writing.
|
"I'm fine its not like you ran me over." Charlotte told him. Since it wasn't like he was the one driving he didn't deserve to be yelled at. She just kept her cool and stayed polite. The rain started to pick up, and there she was standing there.
"Look I'm sorry, I need to get home." She smiled as she held her hands out indicating the rain that was already apparent. Not only that the longer she look getting home the more likely her mother would find her ruined dress. |
Vance stuttered slightly, "Would you like a carriage ride to your house, ma'am?" He offered politely. He hopped out of the carriage and set his papers on the back seat of the carriage, as to not get them wet.
Vance bowed "I'm Vance, pleasant to meet you." |
Charlotte bowed politely.
"Charlotte.." She smiled as she brushed some damp hair from her face. "That's kind of you, but I'm only a short distance away. And Mother wouldn't be to fond of that." She said hoping he didn't get offended. It wasn't anything against him, she just grew up learning to not ride with strangers. "It was nice meeting you Vance." Charlotte bowed again before walking off. She hadn't even realized it he was from play without his costume. And the dark night and rain that covered everything didn't help. Not that it mattered now that she was walking away from him. |
He bowed after her and then Vance shrugged and hopped into his carriage, it clattered against the cold cobblestones. He didn't give the encounter a second thought. Vance picked up his parchment and quill and continued to scrawl on the paper until he reached his manor.
Vance hopped out of the carriage and ran into the house, shielding the parchment from the rain. Lightening was now lighting up the clouds. He requested for a fireplace and a nice, warm meal and sat down in his chair. |
Charlotte got home just in time to get out of her dress and hand it off to a maid. While it was being washed she had a bath being prepared when her parents came home. Slipping in to the warm water she quickly washed up. Her mother knocked on the door and startled her. The water splashed as she covered watching the door.
"Charlotte what are you doing?" Her mother asked finding it odd since she'd washed up in the morning. Little did she know Charlotte walked home in the rain. "O I just felt like it, and I tripped so I got a little dirty" She lied. Once she was done she climbed into bed and went to sleep. It was a long day and she was glad to just rest. Charlotte was still sleeping come late morning so a maid was sent to wake her. Charlotte rolled out of bed and dressed in her everyday wear. "I'll be home later" She told her mom as she ran out the door and headed down to the theater. |
Today a new play would be performed, so the backstage was a buzz of excitment. Vance breathed in and out slowly, he had a relatively important character part. The play was based on a war between England and Germany. Vance was one of the leaders of one of the troups. The curtains would open in five minutes.
"Head to thou' east good knight! For we fight till the death!" He repeated his line with his enthusiasm. It was his line, the line that he had to speak with the most enthusiasm. |
Charlotte made her way down to find everyone around a stage. The globe theater was still being worked on, but they allowed people to use the stage. Charlotte figured she still had a while till the play started so she side tracked to a small book store.
It was a small little shop that she'd visit every so often. Her dress rustled as she walked through the rows of books. It was nice place to just hang out and read when she wanted to get away from home. |
There was five more minutes until the play started, and the play-writer called us all together and had a talk with us.
"Good sirs, this be my first play! Deliver with as much voice and emotion as you can!" We all walked back to our stations, and the rest was up to time. The curtain started to be pulled back. Vance watched the leads say their lines, and waited for his turn to go out onto the stage. There was a good sized crowd, children were sitting on the straw floor even! It looked like some really important, upper class royals were in the front row. Vance was kind of nervous now, this could be his chance to make it big time! It was almost his time to go out onto the stage. |
Charlotte hadn't found anything at the book store today, but at least she had the play to look forward to. Headed back to the stage she saw that it had already started.
"O bloody hell. I'm missing it." She sighed as she moved quickly through the crowd. There weren't a ton of people, but a great deal had shown up. She finally made it to the front so she could see and noticed a familiar voice. Looking up she tried to identify the actors, many were new faces to her, but one. A troop looked just like the young man who was in the last play she'd seen. Charlotte would just have to talk with them afterwards. After all she liked to speak to the actors about the plays they'd been in. Being the character, and watching held different points of view. |
Vance ran out onto the stage, with his wooden sword drawn.
"Good knights, we are being attacked! Draw your weapons and fight to the death!" All the actors who were playing knights cried out "aye sir!" in unison. The actors drew their swords and charged towards the enemies. Knights fell to the ground all around the stage. It was time to abandon this battle, so Vance said his most important line. "Head to thou' east good knights! For we fight till the death!" He said the line with as much power as he could, and thrust his sword towards the sky. The knights and Vance himself ran off the stage. The knights ran off the stage to be replaced by the kings and their Queens discussing the battle. |
Charlotte was so mad at herself for missing the beginning. It made her wonder what she had missed and if it was anything important. Still it was a well done play. When the actors shouted and ran about the stage the audience became animated.
Charlotte was bumped and pushed a few times as she tried to watch the play. She hated being bothered while she enjoyed a play, but it was a tight squeeze with everyone so close to watch. |
Vance caught his breath from running, it was a relatively big stage. Once the kings and queens came off the stage, Vance and 3 other knights came onto the stage, along with a general from the other side.
"You have come to make your motions for peace, state your offer." The other actor said. "I have come for peace, both our sides cannot keep fighting like this! Both sides are becoming damaged heavily in knights and supplies. We surrender if you agree to no more fights, and instead we become allies. Aye?" It was silent for a moment, then the other commander nodded. "Okay, good sir. I agree to the truce, but in return we must exchange two pounds of gold. Both of us, but you give us 3 pounds since you brought up the truce." Vance nodded. "We will have the gold to you in a months time. It will be brought by messenger and a trusted knight." Vance stood up and announced the news to his men. The knights started cheering and started walking off the stage and to the supposed town. The town crier ran through the stage announcing the truce. |
Charlotte could see it was ending and so she made her way to the back of the stage. She knew better than to go back during the show, but she could at least way close by. She she hardly see noe, but she could still hear everything going on.
