A Dangerous Game (Only Three People. Need More, Please!)
Welcome Vampires. We've all heard about them in story books and fireside tellings. These stories speak of the unimaginable; the undead now keeping themselves alive by feeding themselves upon the blood of their living brethren, entire towns wiped out by a hunger craze, the stalking of their victims whose screams pierce the night air. Yet, they are only stories set to chill the blood and get a good scare. Or are they? Perhaps what is believed to be fiction is, in fact, very much real. They are here and they own the night. When many would lay their weary heads to bed, the day is only beginning for these night dwellers. They go about what they consider a daily routine; perhaps talking with other fellow vampires, going to a movie, fighting over territory, or grabbing a bite to eat. Vampires are not the blood-crazed maniacs that many stories put them out to be. They have their own society and own set of customs that all must abide by. It wouldn't do for a rogue vampire or vampires to go about killing and destroying when they please; they are brought down to a quick end. Politics plays a crucial part in this game they play and only the strongest and largest of clans can survive. Choose the losing side and you are asking for the embrace of death. Yet, vampire and humans are not the only chess pieces that move across the board. There are a special class of humans who feel it is their duty to exterminate every vampire that preys upon their kin. They are the Vampire Hunters, equipped with holy water, blessed crucifixes and weapons, that patrol the area to prevent feedings. Vampires may battle each other for dominance, but when faced with a Vampire Hunter, they are quick to call a temporary truce in order to escape with their lives. Vampire Hunters have no remorse in killing vampires, nor will they show mercy to those who attack them to protect one. Let it be known that vampires do not always kill their victim; if they did, then the human race would have been extinct a long time ago. Instead, they only take enough to survive and then leave the human, asleep, in a populated area. The human will remember it like a dream, and the fang marks will have long since disappeared. They will be slightly pale and groggy, but nothing a good night's sleep and meal won't cure. For those who do not believe in the vampire race, they might think it a twenty-four hour flu bug, but for those who truely believe in the vampire race, they might become obessessed with searching for their attacker. When they finally find their attacker, it normally does not bode well; will they be killed, become a blood-slave, or perhaps be frightened into madness? Every option is equally possible and only a Vampire Hunter can intervene to save them. So how shall the story play out? What vampire clans shall face one another? Who shall kill whom? What personal feelings shall evolve between all involved? It is a dangerous game to be playing, so be sure you are prepared. |

The rosy haze of the sun was slowly sinking on the horizon as the moon, bright and beautiful, began to take the place of its opposite. Stars began to dot the sky, only to be blotted out by the glow of the street lights that went down every main street of the city. Other signs lit up momentarily after the streeth lights, advertising and flashing to get customers to come in. Although it was becoming late, there were still those who would walk the streets in droves. It was the weekend and that meant only one thing to its occupants: partying until dawn. Well, one couldn't say that partying was the only thing on the minds of the city's inhabitants. Some were having much more morbid thoughts on their minds, such as if tonight would be safe to feed or if tonight was the night to attack a neighboring clan for more territory.
These people were a bit different from those who were entering the bars or nearby shops. They were vampires and their day was only beginning. For one such vampire, she was just rising from her bed after a good day's sleep. "Good evening." She said in a low voice, pushing herself away from her luxurious satin sheets and opening up the curtains to let the moon shine its radiance into the room. This was why she had choosen this room; the moon was so dazzling and a welcoming sight to wake up to. Her lithe frame, a mere 5'7, was illuminated and framed by her night dress. Skin the color of porcelian constrasted starkly with her ink-black hair that messily flowed to the nape of her neck. Eyes the color of gold were framed by thick lashes took in her surroundings before she went to her vanity dresser and sat down. With a swish her hand, the mirror glowed with a tinge of red till she could see her relflection and begin to work on her hair. It was wasn't long before it was resting neatly, with a little lift at the end, upon her person. Changing out of the night dress, she dressed into some stylish boots, dark blue pants, a sleevless black shirt with silver embroidery, a choker with a topaz stone in the middle, and some topaz studded earrings. Add a little pale lipstick, some light eyeshadow, and mascara, and she was ready for a night on the town. Would there be any clan struggles today? She hoped not; it was so hard to get a day off these days; something was always going wrong and she always had to help in the clean-up. Now that Vampire Hunters were catching wind of their activities, it was getting even harder to get a meal. Really now, she couldn't understand these savage Hunters. All she wanted was a little meal and they always stepped in calling her a demon and having her meal interrupted. It was becoming a nuisance; if they really wanted to stop a blood bath, then let vampires eat in peace. The reason for a few of the younger vampires going berserk was because they were unable to eat properly. Even she, Cecilia, who had lived for over a thousand years and so was used to going for days at a time without a proper feeling, was beginning to feel the effects. "Hmpf. Well, if they decide to attack me again, I'll show them just how 'demonic' I can be." Cecilia smiled, her fangs gleaming in the moonlight as she opened the window and jumped swiftly to the ground. Landing on the ground, she dusted what little dirt had gotten on her and began her patrol around for a decent meal. |
Shonasha Shonojo was out on the streets the second the lays rays of sunlight disappeared from the sky. The customary red sky of a setting sun had shifted now into a deep shade of purple, a color that matched the eyes of the vampire that was now reflecting the lights of the many street signs that had turned on for the evening. Music drummed up from the basement clubs that humans were already stumbling out of on drunken feet. Living in this time was so much easier then those of the past. The old stories were no longer past and people of all ages had long since lost their fear of the dark. These times also made it so much easier for Shonasha to blend in on the streets, even with his white hair that fell just past his shoulders. No one even took a second look anymore.
Now he strolled the city, much as he did every night, looking for the next easy meal and wondering if he would be stopped in his feast by another clan or the ever-present Vampire Hunters that were always on the hunt. He adjusted the sleeve of his white button down shirt and brushed a stray hair from the purple vest that he wore with it. His polished black shoes caught once on the long legs (long because of his tall stature) of his near black jeans until he fixed them and walked on. |
Walking the streets of the city always calmed her; the sights and smells, not to mention the noise, made her feel right at home. It hadn't always been that way, since she had been born in a time where all of this would have been considered witchcraft, but she had adapted. There were a few vampires that were around her age and they preferred to be in near the wilderness. Well, let them feast upon the blood of the woodland creatures if they so chose. To Cecilia, nothing could substitute for the warm, nourishing source of life that flowed in the veins of her living brethren. She sometimes wondered if she ever passed by a relative through one of her siblings, but that thought was normally cast aside. Who would love to learn that their great-great-how-many-times-great aunt was alive as a creature from legend? Maybe a few, but most would just laugh and say she was crazy. How could a twenty-one year-old woman be claiming to be their predecessor? A preposterous notion, to say the least, and all too predicatble of calling those from the asylum to pick her up.
Cecilia proceeded to walk into a night club, its rave beats pulsing through her body. It was a favorite spot to check out for a meal; people were happy, drinking, and were letting down their guard to strangers in the hopes that they might "be the one". What vampire wouldn't take advantage of the situation? It was always better for the prey to be willing instead of panicking at the sight of fangs. All she would have to do is looking alluringly at the person of her choosing and hopefully have them snagged. Cecilia was in the club for maybe a half an hour before she found a willing person. They snuck out through the back door into the alleyway, Cecelia cooing and soothing her partner into a relaxed state. Pushing the unsuspecting victim against the wall, she put a finger to their lips, leaning in to whisper one word: "Sleep." It was an immediate effect; his entired body became slack and head went forward to rest upon her shoulder. If she had been a normal girl, his height and weight might have caused her to fall backwards, yet she was not a normal girl. Becoming a vampire had given her incredible strength and it was only getting more refined as the years went on. Licking his neck, her fangs neatly pierced his throat and blood began to pour into her mouth. It was like the ambrosia of the gods to Cecilia, who only continued to drain her victim. Oh, she wouldn't kill him, but she was sure to get whatever nourishment she could. Those nasty Vampire Hunters had been so cruel lately in interrupting her dinner time. The smell of the blood, now hanging in the air, only added to the pleasure. It was maybe only a minute, perhaps a bit longer, before she finally released him. A little bit of blood trickled from his throat, but she licked it clean and watched the fang marks disappear. It was such a neat trick they had, to be able to heal wounds in such a short amount of time. "Now...where to put you." She purred, now in an immensely better mood than before her meal. The after-dinner glow was quite apparent in her now pink-tinged skin. |
Shonasha had just been about to follow a rather tipsy human walking into what looked to be his third club of the night when he smelled blood on the air. It was there for but a moment before it disappeared entirely. He stopped in his hunt as he wondered to himself whether the other vampire out there was friend or foe. He shrugged to himself. If it was an enemy then he had better eat while he could. As often as he had walked the streets looking for a meal, it had still been several days since his last. He left a mental note to himself to be careful of where he ditched the unconscious body later. Even the city people would notice if several people ended up abandoned in the night in the same area with no idea how they had gotten there.
An idea struck him and he shuffled through the many bills in his wallet. There were plenty there. "I'll just get a hotel room and ditch 'im there I guess." He said to himself as he wandered into the club after his victim. It didn't take long to encourage the well intoxicated human to come up to a room. Half of the visitors to the city were all hoping to get lucky. Then all that was left was to take a bite and satisfy himself with a drink. The poor guy had passed out before Shonasha got much out of him, he was that drunk. When he had had his fill he let the wounds heal, licked up the last traces of blood and sighed in slight frustration. "Well that was no fun, maybe I'll go after a girl next time," He rose to his feet and swayed a little from the drunken blood he had consumed, "Go easy on the drinks next time pal," Then he left and was back on the streets again. Now he was ready to be on the look out for any possible enemies that might be wandering the night with him." |
After a bit of deliberation, Cecilia decided that it would be better to just leave him in the night club. However, before bringing him back inside, she pulled out a small bottle of liquor that would make him to believe he had passed out from one too many drinks. A little splash inside of his mouth, plus a little pat of the liquid on the hem of his shirt, and he began to reek of the stuff. Oh yes, the moonshine she had gotten so long ago really worked wonders. He wouldn't have to worry about blindness or anything of the sort, since it was such a low dose, but he might get a bit of a headache from the fumes. Cecilia's acute nose was certaintly recoiling against the sudden stench.
"Okay, let's get you back inside. A bit too much to drink, huh?" She asked in an almost sing-song voice, her demeanor completely changing at having not been interrupted for once in a long time. Entering through the door, she merely plopped him on the nearest couch that he could stretch out on. Those around were laughing at the sudden change of events, Cecilia only laughing and saying that nothing happened before he had passed out from the liquor. No one really cared, nor would anyone really remember the details later. All they would know is that some guy got too drunk to make a pass on a rather attractive-looking girl. No one would remember names or clearly their faces. That was what made Cecilia love to hang out at night clubs; virtually pain-free and no questions were asked later. All anyone cared about was their own well-being and having fun. Leaving the club, she was aware of the smell of blood. Although extremely faint, one could never mistake the almost metallic scent of blood when it was spilt. Oh, this one was good, though who could it be? If it were a rivalling clan member, they would be sorry if she crossed paths with them. The younger they were, the more "lenient" she was, but otherwise she was a fury to behold. If they needed to feed so much, then they could hunt in their territory! Hunting on another's turf was like a slap to the face and then having your mother called a profane name. It wasn't allowed. Ever. Though if there's too many of us feeding, they will come out. Cecilia thought. By 'they', she meant only one group; the Vampire Hunters. Oh, she really hoped that wouldn't be the case. In the meantime, she would patrol the territory. Now that she was well-fed, fighting off any attacker or Hunter would be a piece of cake. Hopefully. |
Shonasha was back on the streets again. With a full stomach he paid little mind to the people around him except to shuffle out of the way when they stumbled in his direction. As his own, albeit smaller, level of intoxication made him much less graceful than his kind aught to be, he found himself wondering why humans sough out such a pointless indulgence. "It'd be better if it at least tasted good," He said with disgust as he caught the smell of spilled beer wafting out from one of the open doors of a bar. "But I guess in that way they're like us, they're addicted." He smiled to himself ruefully as he imagined how a Vampire Hunter would react to such an obscure relation. "He probably wouldn't buy it."
It was as he was walking past a rather dirty alleyway that he had remembered the victim that he had smelled earlier. He realized that he hadn't smelled any other blood during the night, "Maybe there isn't a clan here," He wondered to himself, "Maybe it's just another rogue." He doubted that though, big cities like this were bound to have a hoard of vampires feasting off it's delectable citizens, and when they found him it could mean him moving on again, "Maybe these one's aren't so proud as the others I've met, maybe they've got room for one more, maybe." He said to himself, but he found himself listening past the blasting music and human's laughing, for more sinister sounds of the night. |
Cecilia had stopped by a coffee shop as was taking a small sip at the brown liquid that swirled about with the little cream and sugar she had but into it. It wasn't the best thing to drink, in fact a vampire had to aquired the taste before even stomaching the smallest amount, but it relaxed her. She didn't know why, though it might have something to do with making her feel as if she were alive again. Good coffee always evoked the memories long past and made her feel more at home. There wasn't a true reason as to why, since her family hadn't been able to afford coffee, but just smelling it reminded her of the nobles that were having it ground for their tasting. Since her family had lived so close by, the smell had always wafted through the windows when they were opened in the morning.
Well, even if they smell satisfied, she still had to pay for a cup. Who came into a coffee shop without buying coffee? It was weird and caused unneccessary attention for the old vampire that she could do very well without. Give the owner some money, grab a cup, maybe a couple seconds of eye contact, and then it was over. Simple, just the way Cecilia liked it; it didn't really matter to her to make friendships with humans anymore. For one thing, never aging kind of gave it away after about twenty years of knowing them and then there was also the looming approach of their death. The last funeral she had attended had been hundreds of years ago and she wasn't really up to seeing another anytime soon. A flash of white caught her eye and she took a closer look. It was a man, but what got her was the smell. Blood. And he wasn't in her clan, from what she knew. Well, she should know; after all, she was one of the leading figureheads. Getting up silently, she threw the coffee away as she exited the store, looking at him curiously. He didn't smell of any neighboring clans either; a rogue? A smile curved across her lips at the thought of it. There hadn't been rogue walking within the territory in a very long time. Usually they had been young newborns going crazy and had to be silenced or they were snatched up by the other clans. Since her clan was closer to the heart of the city, and therefore extremely desireable, more outward clans were grabbing as many members as possible in the hopes of overpowering them with sheer numbers. Hmpf, what fools they were. Numbers didn't mean anything if there weren't smarts involved. Should I just follow him or make my presence known? Perhaps I should test his abilities first to see whether he is a newborn or not. Cecilia thought, wanting to know just how much his awareness via sights, sounds, and smells were sharpened. Newborn vampires were a loose cannon since everything seemed so overwhelming. If they survived long enough, those senses were sharpened and heightened to be used to their full advantages. Though if he hadn't been snatched up already, perhaps he was not a newborn. That was a tangible possibility. |
Shonasha was beginning to wish that he hadn't chosen a drunk man as his victim. As easy as it had been to get his meal, the aftereffects were taking a toll on him.It bothered him even more so now that he could smell traces of blood around the city. While it could have been the monthly bleeding of a woman, or a violent brawl in some back alley, he was beginning to suspect that at least some of the cases were more of his brethren on the hunt. The sheer number of blood scents had tuned him in that there was indeed a clan in this area, though of what size he wasn't sure.
He cursed under his breath at his foolishness. He had been in the city for a week now, and had assumed that the lack of commotion was a hint of safety. Apparently he hadn't been paying very close attention. Then he felt it, a brief chill up his spine. Was someone following him? He couldn't be sure. He shook his head, trying to shake the grogginess and looked over his shoulder. He saw no one, but the discomfort remained. He increased his pace down the street and quickly ducked into a restaurant that was just crowded enough to prevent a confrontation. He was glad to get a seat around the center of the restaurant and planned to stay for a short while at least until this uneasy feeling went away. |
Cecilia had to smother a giggle as she watched the man's gait. Was he...drunk? He must have gotten hold of some poor severely inebriated mortal for the alcohol to be having such an affect on him. However, it was quite clear he was aware of her presence or at least he was aware of the presence of others like him. Who knew how long he had been here, but it was a safe bet to say not very long. If he had been, well, he had just blown his cover with that drunken meal he had indulged himself on. Quick as the wind, she hid herself from view as he looked behind to see if anyone was following him. This was becoming quite the amusing game and she only wondered if she would've been able to hide adaquately enough if he had been at his peak performance. Human, vampire, it didn't matter when it concerned alcohol. If there was enough alcohol in a human's blood, then the vampire would feel the effects just as strongly. Admittedly, her human had been a little tipsy, but it was nothing more than a little bit of giddiness added to her demeanor.
Oh, he was diving into a restaurant. What a clever vampire this one was! Definitely not a newborn, who would have avoided such a crowded place full of pulses that would drive them wild. She would be forced to reveal herself since she would have to go into the restaurant to avoid losing him. There were quite a few exits in this restaurants and a place many unwanted individuals (aka other vampire clans) liked to frequent because it was a neutral zone. Hopefully there wouldn't be too many in this place tonight. She wanted a little chat with the new vampire before anyone else did, especially since he had wandered in without a word from anyone. Perhaps she wasn't as dressed as she should be, but that didn't matter at all to Cecilia. She only waved a hand at the host in the front asking her how many to be seated. "Oh, I already have someone waiting at a table." She smiled sweetly before continuing her trek towards where the vampire was seating. In the middle of restaurant where all eyes could be drawn. Add cunning beneath the clever note in her personal book on this one. Standing to his side, she flashed a grin at his uneasy state. "May I?" She asked, indicating towards the chair across from him. |
Shonasha looked up in surprise as, what appeared to be a young woman asked to sit with him. He had to admit he had never expected to be followed inside, but at least in here there was nothing she could do without endangering herself. If he wasn't welcome, then all she could do now was warn him to leave before, such and such a time enhanced with a little threat to get him moving. If he was welcome...well he would just have to wait and see.
With a brief glance at the distracted people enjoying their meals, he dropped the menu he had been pretending to browse and stood up, "Of course. Allow me," he said as he pulled out the chair she had been gesturing too and waited for her to sit down. He hoped that maybe being polite could help his odds some. What was there to lose after all? A home? Pride? Honor? He had none of that here, not with the way he had been wandering during the last few years. |
Hm, she had a gentleman on her hands and that maked a more coy smile cross her face as she took the offered seat. This one was quite interesting; normally the vampire would stand up in surprise to make a commotion to escape. Yet this one had guts, something that could be admired. He was weighing his odds, taking chances, and keeping a level head. It had been awhile since she had seen one of those. There were few within the clan and they all had their skills to offer, but most of all, they kept a cool head under pressure. It was like an unwritten code to them; to lose one's temper was a shame not only upon themselves, but also on the reputation of their clan.
"Thank you, sir. I must say you're one of the more refined guests we've had for awhile." She said, wasting no time in getting to the root of the matter. Why hide what was already obvious? He knew he had been followed and that his ruse of hiding out waiting for her to become bored had failed. The predator had come to the prey, it seemed, but it did not affect her pride in the least. Let them continue to guess, never fall into a pattern, and she would always have the advantage when it came to any situation. "Though it seems my manners have been slipping. My name in Cecilia Rose Vallant. Let me welcome you to our territory of the city." She smiled, looking at the flickering of a nearby candle before continuing, "Might I ask why you chose to enter our fair city? How long have you been here that you have eluded our sentries?" |
As Shonasha sat back down, he was pleased to see that he had at least surprised her. It seemed his odds were not as bad as he thought. He sat back in his seat, one hand rested on his knee under the table where he drummed his fingers, a nervous habit that he was glad to hide. Everywhere else, he kept his composure.
She got straight to the point, and he was grateful for that. He didn't think he could have stood to sit through pointless banter just to pretend they were here for something else. As long as none of the human's noticed anything wrong, everything would be fine. "Thank you for your warm welcome, Ms. Cecillia." He said, ignoring the fact that he was sure she had been tailing him here and sticking with formality, he had no idea how old she was or what rank she held in the clan here, but it was better to assume more than less. "I have come to your city merely because I have been traveling, and have been for the last few years," He admitted. There was no point in hiding anything now, she would ask him anything she wanted to know, and as a stranger in her clan's territory, he had no choice but to tell her. It would work best if he just spat it out. "My clan was nearly wiped out in a bitter clan war. The survivors, few of us as there were, were exiled. Since then I have been searching for a new place, somewhere safe, and somewhere where the members could stand that I have opinions that I've garnered over my many years that cannot be changed," He kept his tone calm and quiet, as if he were talking about something as trivial as the weather. Humans had an uncanny love for eavesdropping, it was better, he had learned, when they didn't think they were going to hear anything interesting. "As for your second question, I've been staying at a local hotel for the past six days. Tonight was the first time that I came out for... a bite to eat." he said with a smile. |
Cecilia listened quietly and intently, her gaze never wavering from his as she listened to his story. Every nuance and gesture was made evident from her observations of him. There was no lying in the slightest, so he was not a spy for any of the outer clans, which was a good thing. Cecilia liked to give the benefit of the doubt, but in times like these she wasn't going to jeporadize the clan in the slightest. Any sign of turning and she would attack without mercy. She was a terror to the outer clans when the need arose, but some seemed to always forget and she had to "gently" remind them.
"I see." She said simply, like him not wanting to attract attention to their conversation, "It must have been quite a struggle right after your clan's demise. I was right about you being cunning if you've survived for so long on your own." She tapped a finger against the edge of the table, her eyes closed for a moment as she searched her memories for any news about a clan being destroyed. After a moment, she couldn't find one, so it must have been quite a ways away or it had been hushed up quickly. If that were the case, it would have to be quite a powerful clan with a lot of influence. Hers had quite the influence too, but they weren't talking about her clan. Not yet anyway. Opening her eyes, she looked him straight in the eyes, "Well, from what I've seen, you are being quite honest with me, so you're allowed to be within the territory. I see you had a bit of our local cuisine, though you might have gotten one that was a bit too ripe. Quite alright, though, and I don't see why you cannot feed as long as you are not greedy or cause attention to us. "However, if you like what you see, you may consider your wanderings finished. Our clans like those like you; you think for yourself and therefore you bring with you strategies that might prove useful to the whole. In all honesty, I'm surprised you managed to get into the heart of the city without being confronted by a few of our neighbors." |
Shonasha was pleased to hear that she believe him, and better yet that she was somewhat impressed with him. "I wouldn't say cunning as much as careful. Our clan was powerful during that time. There were any number of smaller ones that would want to pick of a survivor for a spot of revenge. Living through that has taught me how to blend in and keep attention off of myself." He allowed himself to relax and found himself smiling rather sheepishly as she mentioned his overripe victim. "I suppose that however was not the best example."
He perked up as she offered the option of staying. The idea appealed to him. His wanderings had not been long for someone of his age, but he longed for the feeling of belonging to something again and he was ready to try it once again, "Your offer," he looked away in embarrassment, "You don't know what it means to me. If it's possible," He said as he turned back to her, "Could you tell me more about your clan. What's the situation here? Who are the other clans, what are the dangers? I'd like to know, I'm afraid I don't know the area very well," He noticed a waiter coming their way. He had half forgotten that they were in a restaurant to begin with. He looked at Cecilia and gestured at the waiter, "Would you like something?" |
"Like you, I have just eaten." Cecilia smiled slyly, "Though I wouldn't mind a glass of water. It's been awhile since I've talked this much to someone outside of my circle and I have to admit it's thirsty work. Also, I have quite a bit of information for you to digest. It might take a couple nights to explain it all."
Waiting for the water the waiter brought, she took a sip before looking back at her seemingly newfound friend. A finger lightly traced the edge of her glass, a little bit of a song trying to form, but being abruptly stopped as she removed the finger and then began the process again. She was compiling her thoughts, thinking about how best to approach him with them. If he thought she was a bit scattered-brained or slow, well then he'd just have to learn normally like everyone else did. Nothing came from rash actions and she knew this from a lot of experiences where rash actions went horribly wrong. "Well, I suppose we should start with the clan. We...really don't have a name anymore." She gave a tiny shrug, "All of the other clans just started calling us "The Clan" and before we knew it, we kept the tradition going. Shows a bit of laziness on our part, but just being called "The Clan" can awe any newborn vampire that has come to know us. However, we are one of the most sought after clans in terms of territory. Seeing as how we're in the heart of the city, where the most people gather at night, we are constantly having territory wars between the warring clans. "Our clan is small, but like you, we have our own strategies to bring to the table. This is why we've been able to hold this territory for so long. I have been here for...hmm....about nine-hundred years. I'm one of the oldest residents of this city so I know it like the back of my hand, which can be quite the advantage when a newborn gets it into his or her head he's going to try and beat me at my own game." Taking another sip of water, she continued, "Our laws are very strict; no one gets in or out without our knowing, which is why I am so impressed you snuck in without anyone being alerted. Gourging on a human's is out of the question and we try to have a schedule where we all don't go out at once to feed. It wouldn't do for people to be alerted and panicked over some made-up disease people will feel is going around. Killings are kept to a minimum, but lately it has gone up because of one simple reason." Her lips barely moved at the two words she was about to say, before continuing in her carefree tone, "Vampire Hunters. They have been appearing lately and have been interrupting our feedings. I'm even beginning to feel the effects and you should know what happens to even the most seasoned of us when left without blood for so long. This night is the first time I've been able to properly feed in a long time." Normally such information would not be divulged to others, but he needed to know the seriousness of the situation. With the Vampire Hunters moving in, getting a good feeding was becoming impossible. Cecilia was sure if she hadn't gotten that meal tonight, she would have been that much closer to breaking; even tonight, she had nearly taken too much blood and thereby nearly killed her victim. "Any questions so far? Oh, and before I continue, may I ask for your name? I don't believe I got it. It's not in my nature to call someone by "Hey" or "You" as it is popular nowadays." She tilted her head in curiosity, the glass lightly touching her lips before she took yet another sip. |
Shonasha had ordered a cup of tea to try and soothe his drunkenness and some appetizer from the menu that would keep the waiter from staring rudely at the two of them as they continued their chat there.
He blew lightly on the hot beverage while he waited for Cecilia to speak. He knew he had asked a lot of her, and he was willing to wait for the answer. Honestly, he wouldn't even had minded if she had refused to give him the information until some other time when he was officially a member of her clan, so he sat back and waited for her to collect her thoughts. It heartened him to learn that the clan he had entered into was a powerful, or at least a substantial one. It had a reputation at least. It seemed that he had come to a clan that was good for him, that relied more on cunning then brute force. He was surprised to hear that Cecilia had been living in this same place longer he had even been alive. He tried not to let it show, but he couldn't help being in awe. At the mention of Vampire Hunters his mood darkened, they had been another enemy he had been weary of on the road. Their kind would do anything to stop a discovered Vampire, he had to escape notice from a few, and even defend himself against one. "Oh forgive me!" He said as her words came to an end, "I hadn't even realized. My name is Shonasha Shonojo, but please, feel free to call me Sho. It's far easier and confused much less often. As for questions, I think I can wait and let you possibly answer them before I interrupt you with my wonderings." |
The lively sounds of the street at night surrounded her as she walked through the crowds of people, moving from bar to club. A few of the drunken men made passes at her, but Rati simply ignored them, allowing the throng to swallow her up and hide her from further advances. She was not in the mood to deal with them, and it showed. Her short, vivid red hair was a mess, looking as if she had just rolled out of bed. The tight black t-shirt bearing the bat-symbol on it had visible wrinkles in it.
In truth Rati had simply rolled out of bed as soon as the sun had dipped below the horizon, heralding the starry night. She had work to do, and her family had been pressing down on her to do it. There was no avoiding making her rounds tonight, and at the least it would serves to get them off her back for a few nights. She sighed, and ran a hand through her hair in a futile attempt to rack the short mess back into the semblance of a hairstyle. Turning off the main way she ran into a couple, getting very intimate in the back alley. Her first instinct was vampire, but it didn't take long to see that this had nothing to do with the blood-suckers. A blush bloomed on her caramel colour skin, and Rati quickly made her way past, eyes averted from the scene. Not that it made any difference to the tangoing duo. Her hand moved off the retractable wooden stake hidden with the confines of her long buckled duster. Shoving her hands into the pockets, her fingers brushed against the rosary still held in the left pocket, a relic from the days of her training. They moved over the smooth surface of the beads, in a comforting way, given her more confidence than what she had entered the alley with. "You two should get a room." Rati muttered below her breath. Neither heard as she proceeded to vanish into the shadows of the alley. First the streets to look after, then she would move into the noisy, bass driven world of the clubs. |
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sho." Cecilia said, giving a genuine smile at finally recieving a name. She was one of those people who couldn't stand not to know someone's name after she began conversing with them, even if she would never see them again. Well, in this case, it seemed as if Shonasha would be staying around for quite awhile. She had to keep her amusement on his awe at her age from being shown. Well, it seemed that she was older if that gave her any inclination. How old, she didn't know, but it seemed enough.
"Well, let's see what else you would need to know..." Cecilia mused, surprised that he wasn't already peppering her with questions after the bulk of information she had just given him. However, her musings stopped when a person appeared next to her. It was child, looking around twelve years old, with golden hair and dark onyx-colored eyes. Her skin color was much like Cecilia's, though there was a vibrant pink on her cheeks. Not much, but it was enough to show she was merely a human who didn't spend a lot of time outside. Standing on her tiptoes, Cecilia politely dipping down so the child could whisper into her ear, the child then delivered her message and then scampered out after a curt nod from Cecilia, whose eyes had slightly narrowed, and after eyeing the new white-haired vampire. "That was Rosalyn. She's a dependent of ours." Cecilia gave a small shrug, "We happened to come across her when a couple rogues decided to attack her and her family. Fortunately, we got to her in time if not her parents. Unfortunately, I guess you can say, she won't go to any foster facility no matter how much we try to explain to her she can't stay with us forever. Oh, another rule; no attacking children or even a thought of turning them. If we find out, you will experience pain like no other. Very rare cases where the draining of a child's blood is allowed. Rosalyn has never felt vampire teeth pierce her neck and we certainly aren't about to show her. "Well..." Cecilia sighed, "It seems tonight is like every other night. A Vampire Hunter, a female, has been spotted. That's my cue to leave, but you are more than welcome to join me." She would wait for his response before she left. |
"Likewise" Shonasha said simply. Cecilia was just about to go on when she was interrupted by a young girl.
Shonasha sat by, eyeing the young girl for a second as she whispered something into Cecilia's waiting ear. She must have been something like a scout or a messenger, the way Cecilia immediately bent over to hear from her. He was reminded off what he had been missing during the years that he had traveled as a rouge. The sense of community and having a place. An old sadness washed over him at the loss of his old clan, but he quickly moved it aside. He had found a new clan now, the others were gone. He had composed himself by the time Cecilia had sat up again and the girl had disappeared as he quickly as she had come. As Cecilia explained the girl's situation, Shonasha's expression turned grave. "People," Shonasha said, his mouth struggled around the word because he knew he was not talking about people, "Who ruin children like that, they deserve the horrible names human's call us. The clan that took over mine, they did things like that, sucking children dry and turning others. You can feel safe knowing I will never submit myself to such low behavior." When Cecilia mentioned the Vampire Hunter, Shonasha signaled to the waiter and quickly paid him for his tea and the food he hadn't even touched. "I'm coming with you," He said simply. |
"I am glad to hear this, Sho, and since you've agreed to come with me, I can show a little more of our territory." Cecilia said, a grin flashing across her face, before she walked quickly out of the restaurant. She waited for Shonasha to appear before jerking her head to signal a brisk walk. For awhile, nothing was said, Cecilia leading the way until they were well enough away from the restaurant and any activities that the humans might be doing. They were near a cluster of buildings, not too close, but then too close for any real space. Only small alleyways, with their trashcans, occasional strays, and fire escape stairs were around. There were few lights, signalling that the occupants were either out or sleeping soundly. No one would ever know that two vampires had been here this night.
"We're going to go up onto the rooftops, now." Cecilia explained before jumping lightly up to the fire escape, quickly jumping off to run up the side of the building, then catapulting to another to land as if she had merely hopped, "Rosalyn said the Vampire Hunter was lurking around the night club district. We'll be going there; I only wonder what would have happened if I had taken my meal later." The stars were barely visible in this small patch of city that had few light on, but they were beautiful. Cecilia only wished she could take her time to watch them, but more pressing matters were at hand. Plus, she was going to have to introduce Sho to the Clan soon; Rosalyn would definitely be chattering about the white-haired man sister Cecilia had been dining with. The thought of the girl brought a small smile to her lips; really, when the time did come they'd have to leave her in a human home's care, they would miss her. With Shonasha close behind her, she took flight in the night sky, jumping from building to building. The stars had left their heavenly perch and had now come to the ground below them. It lit them up as it caught their fleeting figures; no one below would notice them. Any who did would believe it was the trick of the light or having had too much drink. Stopping by a billboard, which was advertising a type of soda, Cecilia stopped to think of their next move. They were close to the night clubs and she could feel a presence. It was odd, seeing as how Vampire Hunters normally shielded their spiritual presence as much as possible. Either this one was a new Hunter or they weren't really caring if vampires could feel them or not. Anyhow, it was time to find the Vampire Hunter; they had said it had been a red-headed individual. Taking a deep breath, her eyes closed as she stretched out her arms to try and "feel" something, she scented the area. No blood, only passion, alcohol, and many other feelings humans could not give a tangible scent to. "Do you feel anything?" She asked Shonasha, wondering if he had aquired the abilities of tracking in such a manner yet. Suddenly she locked on her target, eyes snapping open to show her golden eyes giving an eerie glow, "Found you." A couple more buildings were leapt before she stopped, signalling to Sho to crouch down and pointed at a red-headed girl. She didn't look like any of the other Vampire Hunters seen around this area before. She looked too....unprofessional, Cecilia thought for lack of a better word. This didn't mean that extreme caution could be thrown out the window. Appearances didn't matter, only ability. |
