I wouldn't be surprised. I know too many people who know the ins and outs of computers to be surprised about what you can pull off of them. I know how to wipe a computer clean.

You say that it still exists within the server, but servers don't store that information forever. They would reach beyond their maximum capacity for storage almost instantly if they worked that way. They have to periodically dump old information to make room for new incoming data, and what suggests that the other person is any liklier to save the file or document?

Any of the really good stuff for historians is going to be the stuff people want to delete.

Hn... it wasn't my intention to start a debate.

Nanenna 11-13-2009 05:54 AM

I'm back, the work meeting that I had to go to was as useless as I thought it would be!

Wow, I have no idea what I just walked into.

Kat Dakuu 11-13-2009 05:56 AM

you walked into a strange debate that everyone seems to be ignoring Nenna.

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 05:56 AM

I'm not quite sure what I started up either. I'm perfectly content in letting this particular topic drop though.

Nanenna 11-13-2009 05:58 AM

Okay... *just ignores it like everyone else*

So, how is everyone today?

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:01 AM

I'm doing pretty well. I've been reading a bit more through Dr. McConnell's draft and making some suggestions. Commas are so annoying to deal with.

Am I just killing the conversation or what tonight?

Kat Dakuu 11-13-2009 06:05 AM

I'm good, although I wouldn't call it day. Well, it is day, but I don't count 5 after midnight as part of day.

Nanenna 11-13-2009 06:09 AM

It's good that you're getting stuff done. And I don't think you're a thread killer.

Yeah... it's not very far into the day.

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:12 AM

It's 1:07 here, but I don't really think of this as day either.

Okay. I'm pretty sure I've not gone crazy and am wrong about this, but can someone confirm for me that this is not a complete sentence:

"And more complex than they seem."

Nanenna 11-13-2009 06:13 AM

That is not a complete sentence.

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:16 AM

I thought as much. I was just rather surprised to see that, so I wanted to make sure I hadn't forgotten what constitutes a sentence.

Well, now that's marked for him.

Nanenna 11-13-2009 06:20 AM

There's no subject, if that helps clarify things. It's probably supposed to be part of the previous sentence.

Is it fun being an editor?

Kat Dakuu 11-13-2009 06:20 AM

nope, not a sentence at all! not that one can't write the ocassional fragment....

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:22 AM

I know there's no subject. Like I said, I just wasn't expecting it and wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something.

Sentence fragments are okay on occassion in fiction writing, but I don't think they're generally very well-received in scholarly writing.

It's kind of fun being an editor. It's just feels a little weird knowing that it's my professor. That and I'm aware of how different my comments sound here than they would if was doing this for one of my friends.

Nanenna 11-13-2009 06:23 AM

Yeah, a scholarly voice is very different from a narrative voice.

It got slow while I was at that useless meeting! D:

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:26 AM

He misspelled Samuel Clemens' name nine times...

Does anyone else even know who that is?

Kat Dakuu 11-13-2009 06:28 AM

oh dear...that's not good at all!

sorta...I've heard the name around

Nanenna 11-13-2009 06:29 AM

Samuel Clemens.... that name is familiar... Mark Twain?

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:32 AM

Right, Nenna.

It's oddly amusing to see these sorts of mistakes in his writing, really. I don't mean that I'm laughing at him, but it's just kind of... grr... My vocabulary is failing profoundly this evening.

Nanenna 11-13-2009 06:33 AM

It's okay, it's late and you're tired. Perhaps some sleep is in order.

Hurah! I remembered! ^^

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:38 AM

Yes, cookies for Nenna for remembering Mark Twain.

That sounds like as good an excuse as any. I've gone through his six page "Introduction," and I was just going through his thirty-eight page "Connections" chapter...which isn't even finished yet by the looks of that note he made for himself at the end of it. Yeah, I've had enough copy editing for tonight.

Nanenna 11-13-2009 06:39 AM

That's a lot. ._.

I'm going to start getting ready for bed as well. Good night.

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:40 AM

Nighty night, Nenna.

I go to sleep...and likely to dream of Romania and Mark Twain.

It's best not to ask how those two thing are connected.

Kat Dakuu 11-13-2009 06:40 AM

aw, I never really learned about Mark Twain.

I have started updating my novel onto my story thread in the literature forum. A posted a small part of what I've written and yet it looks so big!

Talentless_Muse 11-13-2009 06:44 AM

I'm rather reluctant to put any sort of original writing online. Fanf fiction is safe enough since it's already copyrighted by someone else, but I want to hold onto my own intellectual properties until I'm ready to put them out fully.

Gah! But I'm supposed to be going to bed...right after Repo! finishes playing.

This is going to sound twisted, but it's almost become my lullaby. I play it in the evening before I go to bed. Half the time I'm not even watching it, but I play it and sing along with all of the songs. It's strange.
