Slang is fine as far as I'm concerned when it's used intentionally and sparingly. It does get hard to read after a while.

okay, I'm back. It took me a lot longer than I thought to wrap my presents.

It can take a while to wrap presents.

I only had five. no, 6, but the last one had three separate things to wrap. one present ended up in a bag and my mom wrapped the big box. Its sad how long it took!
