-shakes head-Ehhh not good luv. -hugs in place-

Kat Dakuu 02-27-2010 01:19 AM

not as bad as it sounds. I listened to the lectures, just didn't buy the textbook until now. the paper is just over all we've learned this unit. basically, the roots of racism.

Kings Anointed 02-27-2010 01:20 AM

Hate and ignorance?

Kat Dakuu 02-27-2010 01:25 AM

mostly economical at its very root. slavery was started for the economy and then in order for it to seem right to sustain such a activity, the racism became common place. it was because black people were the only slaves and were used only as slaves down south that they became seen as subhuman unlike int he roman culture where any conquered group could be either slave or free, so the weight never went down on one skin tone.

Hmmmm interesting. I had some guy crank call me one day saying "How much better the economy would be if black people were still slaves." I hung up on him. Brb

Kat Dakuu 02-27-2010 01:36 AM

now, it wouldn't be any better! the only people with slaves were big plantation owner so that person was an jerk AND an idiot. no one has need of slaves any more

It wasn't all like that though. Some slaves were treated as family members. (on the smaller ones that is)

Kat Dakuu 02-27-2010 01:43 AM

in the north yes, but most of those ended up being freed early on. they worked their own buisnesses and were taught to read and write. but in the south, it was only plantation owners. and that was the main economy of america at the time.

Yeah, well you can't blame it on everyone in the south, the ones in Africa were of course selling. I live in the south but I've never approved of slavery.

Kat Dakuu 02-27-2010 01:48 AM

me neither. the south needed it really and they kinda dug themselves into a hole where the planter class needed slaves to work the plantations and property was wealth. the only way for anyone to move up in the class system was to get a slave. the poor whites needed slaves to be there just so they could say they aren't a slave though their lives were just as crummy.
slavery technically started as far back as humans go pretty much.

Kings Anointed 02-27-2010 01:49 AM

Aye that it did. That it did.

Kat Dakuu 02-27-2010 01:51 AM

but this intellectual conversation isn't exactly a happy one so lets talk about something else. how was your day?

Kings Anointed 02-27-2010 01:54 AM

Yeah.. It's becoming a bummer lol. Today wasn't much of anything really. I didn't have class so I stayed up last night pretty late and then woke up at 12.
