Why is there no option for both? I admit, I like a good pretty bishounen. I also like older men and manly men, all sorts of men! I have a problem with a bunch of pretty boys that flat out look like girls, especially when people are drawing "yaoi" and the boys look like girls. But other than those super girly boys, I'll take my men in just about any shape or size.

In Japan, the 'ideal' of beauty pretty much starts and ends with the HS age girl. So an attractive man should look like a girl, right? XD This is the way it's been over there since Tale of Genji over a thousand years ago. I don't mind when my guys look effeminate, as long as they don't ACT it! hmm.. well I don't know. I think there has always been somewhat of a "girly man" stereotype in anime. Though it's evolved into something else all together.
I like pretty men in manga... I think it's awesome. it's turned me into a class A pervert...well..it turned me into one..I'm not so much anymore since I've become "religious"..I still love pretty boys and boy on boy, but I'm not obsessd with it anymore.. I think its interesting but leaves you wanting something that's not quite possible.. |
Actually I like the manly pretty boys. Like Vash and Wolfwood in Trigun, or Abel Nightroad and Tres in Trinity Blood.

I like both. It depends on the story, usually in yaoi they have a pretty one and a manly one and thats cute and works. Also like in Ouran they are all very pretty and it works and in stuff like Hand Witch they are manlier which works too. I like both depending on the story. But if i had to choose i'd probably go for the pretty boys, they bring out the fan girl in me.

That's because the rabid fangirls like to see beautiful men that don't really look like men. I agree, I like the more feminine look, but I can't stand it when they have the hair that makes them look exactly like a girl. I hate it when I can't tell the gender just by looking. The more time goes on, the more I realize that's the case in real life as well. Lol.

Eh, depends, in some way. Pretty boys in mangas are nice, if they fit in the context. Still, I prefer if they have some kind of masculinity to them. Cute, but not too effeminate, not a la Rose of Versailles. Think Ouran Host Club's Mori-sempai or Cantarella's Michael or Cesar, if you catch my drift ^^;

Sometimes the pretty ones catch my eye, but then again sometimes I find myself swooning over muscles. x3 But I beg to differ that recent anime/manga is lacking in "manly", "buff" men. Gurren Lagann finished airing on television this past year, and Kamina is the definition of "manly" and-- wow! --did he have some gorgeous muscles. Gundam 00 recently completed it's cycle, too, and most of the meisters AND not-so-main characters had muscle definition and angular faces. Buuuuuut, then again. I don't watch much shoujo, so I suppose that's where all of the pretty ones went. xDD |

I love the pretty boys in anime/manga. I really enjoy seeing very beautiful men (and women as well). However I do like a wide range of characters. Manly men and shoda boys. I find it much more enjoyable when you have a viraity to choose from.
