100 moderators for like 50,000 users!? O_O

PWEEP 10-09-2010 06:45 PM

More than that. There are 20 million accounts registered with Gaia, last I checked. Half are probably mules, so I'd bet there's at least ten million real, main accounts.

Kaema 10-09-2010 06:55 PM

I was going by the number that's usually online. Of course, it's about 60,000 now...

PWEEP 10-09-2010 07:13 PM

Ah, well, yea even if it's just 50,000 online at a moment it's still very outnumbered

Kaema 10-09-2010 07:40 PM

It's still better than 10 million! xD

PWEEP 10-09-2010 07:51 PM

Yea :XD I like Menewsha more than Gaia because it's smaller, so it's easy to moderate (I would assume). No trolls!

jellysundae 10-10-2010 03:56 AM

I'll bet the mule count on Gaia is one hell of a lot more than half. Seeing as I alone have 10 accounts...I've heard of people who have hundreds.

Kaema 10-10-2010 03:47 PM

How could someone keep track of hundreds? O_O

Sizzla 10-10-2010 05:19 PM

A long text edit/notepad document...

Jeannesha 10-10-2010 08:41 PM

How can a person handle so many different accounts?
And WHY would you want to?

PWEEP 10-10-2010 08:43 PM

I don't know about hundreds, but I had several myself so I guess Jelly's right  Still, though, there's waaaay too many people there. I'm happy and content here.

Kaema 10-11-2010 12:31 AM

Sizzla: Seems like you'd need a page for each one just so you could even remember what you needed them for! xD

Pweep: Me too. :) Also, here I don't feel like I'm being bombarded with "Buy this EI! Or that CI! We want your money!" xD So it's always a pleasant surprise when they update the gold shops or the hair salon. : D

I've only got one mule...and I don't think I even use it. xD Actually, I had one before, but I can't remember the password.

PWEEP 10-11-2010 12:58 AM

I don't have a lot of money to spend on Menewsha  But I did get the Trinity Guardian this month! I spent waaaay too much money on Gaia and I regret it.

jellysundae 10-12-2010 06:31 AM

Jeannesha, for the simple reason that you cannot change your Gaia avatar's physical appearance at will. If you want different looks you have to have different accounts, it's as simple as that.

Also there's the people who make multiple accounts to cheat with.
Kids create extras then run refresher programs while their out at school and collect the "lurking gold" on the extra accounts and send it to their main.

Kaema 10-12-2010 03:40 PM

And now people are probably making even more mules since there's no way to delete your avatar and change it however you want... o.o

ALLYMOOSE 10-12-2010 04:21 PM

I agree. Gaia is just money mad. I'm taking a break from it right now, to menewsha. i REALLY prefer this.

PWEEP 10-12-2010 05:41 PM

I can tell you like it here, what with all the topics you're making :XD

Kiyomi Katsukawa 10-12-2010 11:22 PM

I've only had two. The first one was lost when Gaia went ban crazy back in 05. It's worth around I think 4mil now? Ah... it was nice. I currently rock "Skeleton Of A Cynic" on that site. I mainly go there to roleplay. It's hard to have a discussion there because it is so gold whore and troll ridden. I really used to love it though. It was kind of like this, everyone was friendly and I could talk to people from the safety of my "cave." every day when i got home from dreaded high school. I probably just have crotchety old man syndrome because I can't stop schooling kids on "The good ol' days!"

PWEEP 10-12-2010 11:33 PM

Well, when sites get older and with more people, there's more of a chance for trolls and stuff. Sadly.

JapaneseCherryBlossom 10-17-2010 07:08 PM

Menewsha used to be my favorite site, but now I'm thinking of being on Gaia more...Usually when I post on here I either get no response from anyone, or I am a thread killer. The only time people actually keep conversations with me is when an event is going on, so that's the only thing I look forward now. Since this site is so small, it is easy for the "popular" users (mostly ones with contests and giveaways, or who RP) to stand out and others to disappear. I mean hell those mene users have SO much free time to be on here all day, just chat it up and be in the exclusive club. I just wish it were easier to make good friends on here, that's all I'm asking. On Gaia, I have to literally pick through the immature kids, but eventually I find good friends there. Here, it's like I don't exist. What the hell is wrong with ME? I am generally a nice person unless you push my buttons....I love Menewsha still, but I hate the way it runs because it doesn't really give users a chance to fit into the "clique." And yes, it's easier to buy items here but what's the use if you're invisible to people?!

PWEEP 10-17-2010 07:12 PM

You're not invisible! It's sort of common sense = The more time you have, the more you post, the more people see you, the more "famous" you're going to be. Maybe you're just not looking in the right places for friends? I'm pretty selective with my friendlist, as I only add people who I truly consider friends, but I've met tons of nice and friendly people who I wouldn't mind getting to know more and perhaps become friends.

There are no real "cliques" here, I think. People are generally accepting. I posted in Avatar Chat for the first time the other day, and I was hesitant at first because I assumed it was a tight clique over there. But it's not, people were open and didn't ignore me. I like it over there, it's fun to comment and talk about avatars :)

On a sidenote, I like your avatar! I don't normally like pink at all but it looks sweet

CK 10-18-2010 12:51 AM

Most of the 'cliques' I know of on Menewsha are small and actually quite welcoming of outsiders.

There are tons of users I "don't know" who seem to hang out in only one or maybe two forums - and usually only one or two threads within that forum/those forums. But I know who you are, JapaneseCherryBlossom. We may not chit-chat, but I certainly "know" you from where I see you post. You're not as invisible as you think you are.

Perhaps your posts are too tentative? Something that people can just sort of generally agree with and not comment on. I call them 'nod' posts. Where the only response most people can make is a nod, and if that's your only content of a post, most people won't bother to make it. I'd have to post-stalk you to see if that's a problem with you (I don't know if it is or not), which I unfortunately don't have the time to do at the moment. But most people I've noticed who say they feel invisible and outsiders on Menewsha tend to have a habit of making nod-posts.

I recommend finding threads on topics you're rather enthusiastic about. Maybe you play a few video games or read some books or watch some movies you're a fan of - or just passionate about for the moment without necessarily feeling yourself a fan. Respond to other people's posts directly, responding to them by name (ex: "@Bob - That's an interesting take on the character. I hadn't thought of it that way before."). And ask questions that might get someone else to contribute. (ex: "But while I agree that Sonny is kind of a prig, do you think maybe it's just because....")

You don't have to do that sort of thing for straight "discussion topics" either. You can go to a "chat" thread and do the same sort of thing. (ex: "@Angela - I like that outfit your avatar's wearing! I'd wear something like that IRL - what about you? :D" or "@Fred - Sorry to hear about that stain on your shirt. D: Did you try looking up how to remove grape stains online yet?")

You're not going to have real friends overnight. But you aren't invisible as it is. But if you put yourself out there, other people will be able to confirm you're not invisible.

JapaneseCherryBlossom 10-18-2010 04:18 AM

Thanks Pweep! I should start my halloween mode soon though. I see you've started. I usually check out User's Pick because I like seeing all the neat avis but everyone there just nominates each other and talks among themselves.

CK I think you notice people because you're the assistant admin! lol. Maybe you are right, but seems like even when I ask questions, no one bothers to answer. I know how to keep going in a convo, but if people usually talk about to each other about school or something I can't just pop in and say something at random. If I try to be random, I just look intrusive and idiodic...I used to go into Debates but that ended after a specific user was putting down every post I had. I guess going into a chat thread may be good for me. I just wish I had something to offer Mene. Well, I can make things out of clay, maybe some afrodonkey earrings or something would be nice;) Thanks for the advice!

I still think bribery is the way to go here....

Kaizy-Kat 10-18-2010 12:58 PM

I used to be active on Gaia until about a year ago. I may be around for the Halloween event this year, though.

I just got tired of constantly having Cash items and EIs being pushed in my face.

Although, now that I think about it, studing Gaia's economy might be benificial for my economics class.

royal randomness 10-27-2010 08:48 PM

i hade several accounts and several emails and as time oassed i only used my mane and my secondary account and dropped the others all together. i still get on gaia i love the games and zomg is epic it would be kewl if menewsha came out with some more games a town would be nice so every one could go and walk around like on gaia, i like gaia towns because youj are with a whole bunch of other gaians and there are trees and rocks you can shake for gold, its easier to earn gold there on gaia and there cloths arent that expensive and the market place i like i like being able to go and look at the stuff that i wantthe shops are kewl also i think i like the shops here better for you have a shoping cart and can add from different stores but there you cannot.
i havent been a member of the menewsha community long but so far it is good i wish i could get more money from the games i find them quite hard gaia games are fairly easy. hmm im ranting now so ill call this post quits
