I spend alot of time on gaia. I like Zomg and aquarium but this new camp thing has me leery. I mean why release the forums five days early? Its stuipd and fills things up with spam. oh well I suppose I'll just have to start splitting my time between here and gaia, I can't quite give up my main account and the evolving items while expensive are addicting to watch evolve. Plus cards, for some reason I love playing cards.

I was getting to the brink of addiction, so I quit for about 3 1/2 months. After that, I pretty much went on as I have before. xD

Oh man i never read that update. I have 11 accounts that i have access to(friends mules' that they never go on) and 6 are mine. Only one of them do i go on constantly, the others i go on every once in a while. I still get that annoying account notice every time i log in, I changed my email to an active email address but gaia still can't send emails to it and is freaking out and that process of changing my email was a pain in the but seeing as i had to email them since the site wouldn't accept it.

In general i like gaia, i like the style of their avatars and their selection of items which makes it so that they can have that many users with so unique avatars, but I think that there are quite a few forum/avatar sites that i just like the items more.

I love the items on this site for instance, it will be great if the site expands and adds more, but the selections they have right now are pretty freaking awesome. (i like the import store and the harem things)

I also enjoy a lot of the items on roliana, mostly the steampunk/victorian selection that they have. While gaia does have the gothic, lolita, steampunk, victorian items it doesn't seem plentiful and they could have a lot better selection as far as i'm concerned.

I've had that warning screen, too, Captain Howdy, but not for a long while. I don't move that fast on websites, but I was messing around once or twice to see what would happen.

I have an account on Gaia Online but there are only few things that can be called with the word "fun". The aquarium and ZOMG are great and that's a big '+' . Unfortunately you need to spend a lot of time if you want to buy all the items to make your avatar the way you want it to be. You gain little gold and spend a lot of time. Nothing to get obsessed with.

I'm really horrible at keeping up with events. I honestly have no idea what they're even for. I know they serve some purpose, but I'm too lazy to really look into them.

Same here...haven't logged onto Gaia in weeks and don't really feel like going back for the event either. Unless the event items are really, really appealing...but if they're going to cost cash then I'll just stay here and have fun on Mene where the items are FREE. (costing you only your time and lots of virtual stars :P)

Gaia's greedy. It's disgusting. Not going there for the event, this time.

I can't bad-mouth gaia. I love the site. I do hate how all the best items cost real money or thousands-millions of gold, but I grew up with that site. And most people need to understand that with a lot of members like that, it would cost more money to run the site.

Alrighty; Gaia just started their Camp Chaos right? It's supposed to be pranking right? It's PVP. Granted the attacks are ridiculous, but there aren't pranks! And they've made it ridiculously hard to get items. Nobody knows exactly how it works; some people are at end boss level and have nothing, some are level 6 and have all but one item. It's so confusing, Fleep was online when I left fielding questions! I lost a lot of patience with Gaia, but I Love my Menewsha so much more!

At least you can buy cash items in the marketplace with gold on Gaia. Neopets doesn't allow that.

Now I definitely know I won't participate in the event.

If you search "camp" in the marketplace, you can see all the event items. There really isn't anything spectacular. Theres a pile of gold coins, raining cash, a gray beanie, a spork (I kid you not, it really is a spork), a beaker and clamps set, a pile of food all around your avi thing, a pair of gloves, and something else that is completely escaping me at the moment-is it any wonder? And the bonus item is a sash like girl scouts wear, with all the badges on it. I have a sneaking hunch that their event is going to fail magnificently.

I probably won't bother with the event on Gaia (too busy). I ended up joining a camp. But I'll wait and see how expensive the event items are and what they are exactly. Last event, there was only one Item I wanted and it was uber cheap. In the end, it's not really worth the effort to participate in events. Even if you do manage to obtain and hoarde the items, they won't get you much of anything aside from some shop commons or very cheap MC's that nobody really likes too much. ;_;

The old event items are worth having though, at least you can buy ONE good rig item with them. :P

I don't really blame Gaia for that, but it's users.

I always say that Gaia isn't being greedy. They are just trying to break even really or make a marginal profit so they can continue to expand. It costs... an estimate (based on quotes from various people: Lanzer, Fin, Fleep etc) that the site needs at least 40 million at a low estimate to run per YEAR. There are employees to pay, bills to pay, and the cost of keeping 300+ servers going night and day. @[email protected]

It's usually something about 15-20% of the populace (maybe as much as 25%) that actually spends money there. With MC's alone, it's only about 1 million a month. That's not even enough to keep the site going. Maybe they can pay some of the bills, but they can't pay their employees with that amount too.

Though from the user's perspective, it's a very bad thing when most of the members can't afford to buy items with gold OR money because they've targeted too young an audience or the economy just being horrible.

It's very sad because I really respect all the hard work that goes into the site. But I'm very afraid to see what it will be like in 5 years. -__-

A lot of us have actually congregated to smaller established sites because of it.

Wow, so they have a spork at last? I remember considering suggesting it once during one of their item design contests, though in the end I didn't go with it. What does it look like? (because I really don't feel like logging in onto Gaia at the moment)
