I think it looks nice, but not three million gold nice.

Kole_Locke 10-05-2009 02:42 PM

I'm kind of excited to see what the Halloween event items will be and what the event will actually consist of. I have all the Halloween event items from 2004 up to the present. I saw the admins on the front page was questing for the AFK! That is almost an impossibility these days unless you were an active member in 03 early 04. I was late 04. One item set I wished they had on this site that is a store item is the pimpin set. I really loved those hats and jackets. They were soooo pimp! LOL

Kaema 10-05-2009 03:01 PM

I hope they put some time and effort into the Halloween event items. :) Lately, it seems like the only thing they really pay attention to is the stuff that costs real money.

Erailea 10-05-2009 03:23 PM

I agree, for the last three years the Halloween event was a massive flop. Last year was nearly the same exact thing as the year before (except they added dark elves and zombies) and the items really weren't that good, out of the 12 or so they made I think I liked one. Not to mention it took a million years to be able to complete the event because there were four sides.

The first year they did the vampire vs human it was glitched and unfair for half the event - it was impossible to become a vampire and when you did you were hit so hard and so fast by the human faction you became human again. It took half the event for them to come up with the "you have X amount of time to get back to base and heal before changing to the opposite race" and to come up with the ability to switch races.

And the year before those, the Grombie event, it was so bad nearly no one got to the final level because the higher levels were banning the lower levels from entering their threads by putting them on their ignored list.

Kaema 10-05-2009 05:52 PM

I don't like how most of the events are fighting...and the same kind of fighting too, it seems. (This person uses this attack. The other person uses their attack. And so on.) I wish they'd be just a tad more creative with their events.

Gaia sometimes make me feel like bashing my head against a brick wall.
Some of the newer, younger members make topics anywhere, and if an experienced user tells them they're in the wrong place, they smart talk back saying they don't care! D:
I like Menewsha and quite a few other avatar sites for the pure reason the user base isn't as illiterate, nor as annoying.
And their constant focus on the cash shop is another reason I have started to become distant from Gaia.
I'm all in favour of pretty items that cost money, but please stop releasing so many of them!

Plus I'm less likely to get hacked here over some pixels than what I am on Gaia. ^__^

I really like how the site does not have that chatterbox forum where you can spam for gold. It was such a waste of space and often a lot of vulgar and horrid threads. On here they expect you to post literate and legit content which makes the site better overall.

Zylinder Kaninchen 10-05-2009 07:44 PM

Yeah. I love how strict this site is. I have no doubt that this site will be awesome for a long long time.

As long as the site doesn't take a corporate buy-out, it should be fine, but I do understand some sponsorships are ok, especially when money is kind of tight.

Erailea 10-05-2009 08:04 PM

Well, all the Halloween's have been battles of some sort... kinda. The first three you had to post under someone of a higher rank to get points towards the next rank. but after the Grunny event, which was the same year the ignored list was an added feature, they ditched it. From then on there was an attack button you had to click. But I will admit it has gotten old. And if the event is like the summer one I might scream. That thing was so annoying and took forever! That event was only fun until you hit like your third level, after that it was really old.

Tre Le Coco 10-05-2009 10:34 PM

eh, if their halloween event sucks like usual, there is always our super cool halloween event ;D one of our best really lol

Macabeak 10-05-2009 10:43 PM

I'm going to break the rhythm of negativity by saying: I'm really looking forward to the new Bad Moon EI! Soooo many people have been wanting werewolf items, and I already have high hopes for it because of the beautiful pixeling of the moon! ;D

...that new Pendant EI looks mighty purdy as well <3

You can't deny the attractiveness of Gaia's items u_u

Kaema 10-05-2009 11:09 PM

It's true that the EI's are the best. : D
But they're so expensive! I really want the pendant one. : D But it's like 250k, and it's too expensive for me. :( I'll just keep saving up!

Erailea 10-05-2009 11:18 PM

@ Kaema - I agree. All the nice EI's are highly over priced. The nice thing about it though is, you can wait for several evolutionary phases and then get if for almost half the price (generally speaking though, not all EI's follow that pattern as they get older generations).

But you know that if an EI is over priced in the cash shop (like $7-10) that it's going to be done well. The cheap ones (under $4) tend not to be as nice looking. But like wise, it means marketplace prices are going to follow the same basic pattern

UniqueXRose 10-06-2009 12:02 AM

I have a couple Gaia accounts. I haven't been on too much though. Everything has gotten expensive on there in the past year or two lol.

Dejae 10-06-2009 01:02 AM

I haven't been using gaia as of late. Too much "sponsor spam". It's like walking through a field of billboards when I log on. So I can say I'm pretty much done with it.

Or, Person A uses the same, high-powered attack every time while Person B spams the heal button.

Aidansidhe 10-06-2009 01:11 AM

One of the first things that appealed to me about Menewsha was the ability to change my avatar at will. With Gaia, having to pay to change my hair or skin color, etc.--it sucked. I can see some similarities to earlier Gaia but then again, a lot of the cons are missing. And to that, I say THANK YOUUUUUUUU!

Yoko 10-06-2009 01:17 AM

I kind of agree with Dajae. I only go on Gaia to check my mail these days, that site is just way too messy for me. Also lately all they care about is making money, it's kind of a downer. I used to buy monthly collectables, but I haven't in at least a year. I just don't want to contribute to it anymore.

I definitely hope this site never ends up like Gaia, it's really comfortable the way it is, and with the way it's run I don't think it ever will.

Amen, amen. >.<'

There is way too much crap floating around there lately... not to mention the increasing amount of things that you can only buy with real cash. I mean, I obviously agree that there should be some, since you totally have to keep the site running, but there's not much need to have so much of it. I've played quite a few free MMOs that went in the same direction with the cash items. It was good for a while, but then it got to the point where you can hardly keep up with the little rich kids, or kids without a real budget. Heh...

I tend to like the smaller sites like this as opposed to the first huge one of the types... when sites like gaia get too big it opens it up to a lot of little snot-nosed kiddies and really stupid people and trolls and flamers.

In addition to the freedom this site gives with avatars and things, I also really love the fact that there is a special section for debate, so you can avoid/find those threads a lot easier if you are (not) in the mood to see the online debates. :insane:

Gaia isn't a complete mess. It's a growing site and to maintain it certain things must be done. A lot blame it on the cash shop. Well, no one in their thirty year old lives (where most of the staff is at) will willingly work on Gaia for free when they can be living out their adult life making a 100 grand a year as compared to the presumably average check they make working with the site.
And with a ton of people, you will/are bound to run into people you don't like, just like in the real world.
But enough of that, I have great hopes for this site. I love the pixels  I hope lands open up and the community grows :D

Zylinder Kaninchen 10-06-2009 03:38 AM

Yeah. Something I especially love about Menewsha as apposed to Gaia. is the ability to change hair and skin and eyes at will like Aidan said. Heh. No need for the gold sink here. n_n

Well, you have to admit that money is a very powerful driving force and I would agree that I may have jumped ship too if I was offered a lot of money. Working on a site takes a lot of patience.

Xaef 10-06-2009 06:31 AM

I have an extremely old account on Gaia, but I've made two accounts since then (I didn't log in for quite some time on each one and consequently forgot my first account's password. Couldn't request it back because I got rid of my old email account.). Anyway... I really loved Gaia at first. But since then it's gotten so complicated. The forums are full of mules and trolls, and high and mighty members who call everyone who hasn't been there for three years a 'newb.' It got really annoying after a while.

I really like how simple Menewsha is so far, and how the mods seem to be on top of their game. I love how there are so few members, I'm looking forward to getting to know a lot of people here on a more personal level than one can on Gaia. These kinds of sites are good for making friends, but Gaia lost that part of its charm somewhere down the road.

There are a few things I'd like to see get worked on, but on the whole I love this site a lot more than Gaia. And I've technically only been here less than a day. ;)

Kaema 10-06-2009 02:39 PM

Yes, and I don't think it's fun at all...if it's going to be fighting, then I wish it would be something a little different. (and more fun)

I'm thinking back to all of the events this year to see which were fighting...okay, just the summer one. But the Halloween one ALWAYS is and it's almost always the same. But maybe this year will be better? : D
Hm...the Easter one was just with Skittles, right? :| (I'm sick of Skittles. O_O)
I like the Valentine's Day event though. xD
