Technology.

Are we too reliant on technology?
Or is it needed to help people live easier?

Is it taking over peoples live?
Or do you think it will take over in the near future?

Does anybody pick up the phone to call a friend anymore??
Or is MSN & the Web an easier/quicker way to communicate?

-----

Just some things to discuss.
Your opinion?

I think it all depends. On what people have and how apt they are.
But I think it is likely that people will come to depend on technology too much.
I know it can be good, with medical advances and things to make life easier.
But is there ever a time where it'll be too much?

As for the phone, I know that I haven't picked up the phone to call a friend in a long while. It's sad when I think about how much I depend upon MSN to communicate with friends. I use to know all my friends numbers, but now I don't..
I still use the phone to call grandparents and aunts, but never my friends.
I consider that a bad habit I've fallen into..

Both. Look at Myspace, Facebook, Youtube and even places like this. Its a way to meet and/or communicate with others.

I love Technology. I look forward to all things new and the fact is people are making Huminoid robots to make life at home, work and even hospitals easier.

No I think depending on technology too much is a problem for some people.

It really depends on the person. Take me for example. I love technology. So seeing new Game Counsels, Phones, Cameras and Hybrid Cars always get me supper pumped.

I think technology will take over the feature. We have come so far with tec..why stop now?

Well for one a phone is a form of technology. Its called mailing a letter.
I use the phone almost everyday but on days I don't I just don't feel like talking nor YIM anyone.

In a way, technology is negatively affecting people in that we now have allll this entertainment right at our fingertips. I can spend HOURS on Youtube. o_o Watching movies, tv shows, music videos, etc etc. Like television, it kind of rots the mind. You're just soaking in all this appeasing entertainment and not really stretching your own creative muscles. Sure, you can get ideas off of the things you watch, but I believe that is like crawling while sitting down and creating something yourself from your own mind and soul is like running free. I believe one is better over the other.
However, technology helps us soooo much!!! Sometimes we really take it for granted and abuse it, but anyone can abuse and overuse anything. Sooo, in the end... I'm glad its around! People just need to learn to use it in moderation.
Now, if I can get tips on getting my friend who's addicted to WoW to answer her phone and the friend who's addicted to Facebook to answer his phone...

People are entirely way too reliant on technology now, look what happens when power lines come down and so on. People have no clue what to do. Houses aren't built with fireplaces any more, so once the power's off people have no means of creating heat or light or preparing food.

People don't know how to cook properly any more, they seem to think food grows in neat little pre-processed packages on the supermarket shelves. Unless kids have hoards of expensive electronic gadgets they die of boredom.

No-one knows how to do anything for themselves any more because they've got too used to flicking a switch or pushing a button and it being done for them.

Everyone loves technology.
But.
It has been controling us.
Take my sister for example. If she doesn't get onto the computer when she wants, she throws a fit and says mad for the rest of the week.
But.
It is also helpful.
People can make important discoveries with it and it is just plain awesome.
:D

Technology has its ups and downs. If human-kind is making any progress at all, it's only through technology, and that's sad. Sucks to be so dependent on technology, but hay, what can we do? :/

I do believe we rely on it too much, but its also made lives easier and safer.

I don't think it will take over, but will be more updated as we come to understand it better.
Technology has given people jobs and have made jobs easier.

I still use my phone quite frequently even though I own my own computer with internet access. Not all people have the money to have a computer and pay monthly for an internet service plan.
I don't rely on the internet to get an important conversation across because text can be easily looked at in the wrong way.

I would say yes we are.. Almost everything they're making for the future has to do with a person not having to get up and do it themself. It sounds kinda.. eh. Like it's promoting laziness. Pure laziness. But then again there are things that are nice to have.

I don't really know. I think we need it for certain things.

I think it already is. Then again, this is just the start.. But, also again, I think we need it for certain things. It makes them easier and efficient.

I never liked calling people in the first place, so it was kind of nice to have messengers. Messengers seem like an easier way for me to communicate with people. Especially if their cellphone is dead, etc.. Or if I just don't feel like outright talking to someone.

dianakitsune 03-01-2009 04:16 AM

I think both. Facebook is nice and all, but i think we rely on it too much for communication. We should start using the phone more often. I fear that one day no one will speak anymore, everyone will just text... like in Ayumi Hamasaki's Music Video, it's so creepy, but scary true.

jellysundae 03-01-2009 03:41 PM

I think you kids are missing the point quite a lot  Phones are technology too, especially the cell phones that teens all have surgically attacted to themselves.

Gaara_Silent_lover 03-04-2009 09:14 PM

We rely too much on technology to make it seem easier for us.
To distract us from what our priorities are. But, who really wants to do the things that need to be done anyways? Why do you think it's called "procrastination". >_>
I actually dislike calling people. They usually tend to call me. But, sometimes I'll call. Only occasionally.
