erase posts by ourselves

i don't know if this had been requested already
but it would be great for us to be able to erase our posts
it happenes sometimes to accidentally double-post
or i don't know for what reason we would like to erase it

The double posting is a non-issue, because all you'd have to do is report the post and a moderator will handle it.

The issue of deleting own posts has been discussed at length since the switch to our current forum software, and I don't see it as changing anytime soon, if at all.

On a personal note, I just don't see the necessity of it.

Why do you think it would be important to delete your own posts. Besides the double posting of course. That is easy enough for any online moderator to handle if you report it. But why, as a user, do you think it would be beneficial for you to delete your own posts?

Well, I think it'd be nice to have that option. For instance, during the last event, I kept getting knocked out during the pillow fight because I posted on the first page of opposing teams' hangout threads. I kind of wish that I could have deleted those posts myself. I got a moderator to delete them for me, but she logged off early and wasn't able to get back to me until the next day.

So that's fine and all, but it would have been nice for me to have the option to delete my posts right away. Then I could have actually participated in the pillow fight right away and not have had to wait until the following day.

Also... sometimes I make stupid posts because I don't realize something and I have to edit the post to say something along the lines of "Nvm, forget about this post". I don't want to bug a mod for something that's not double posting... and I definitely don't want to wait for other people to read the stupid thing that I posted if I decide to get it deleted. xD;;

I just think it'd be a good thing to have. If there's an update to the system and it's easy to put in, I think we should have that option.

People won't have the option to delete their own posts, that leaves things far too open to abuse. Be it cheating in things like thread contests, to removing evidence of flaming/harrassment and so on. So no, this won't be happening :)

It's not possible to have negative gold anymore is it? I think it was mentioned that gold could only go as low as 0 now.

Having the ability to delete posts would give a user an option to spam with large posts to gain gold and either invest in items or donate the gold directly to a mule and then delete the spam messages without people seeing.

While I think there should be an option to delete your posts yourself, I have to agree that there are too many options for abusing the feature to really have it be given to us.

We'll get negative gold back, don't you worry! It's one of the many things we need.

Although I can understand all of the harmless reasons for wanting to delete your own posts, I believe that the risks involved outweigh the convenience. Though I get frustrated sometimes with having to bother the staff over deleting posts and such, I would rather not see deleting your own posts as an option.

Fabby 03-17-2009 08:12 AM

I really wish we could do this as well. There are some times when I say things that afterward I wish I hadn't said, but hit submit for some reason. And there's always double-posting, of course.

It's been said that it's not possible to just be able to delete your most recent posts, correct? I think that was brought up at the initial software switch...
Can moderators see deleted posts? If so, abuse could be caught and stopped.

jellysundae 03-17-2009 02:10 PM

It's not going to happen. I can understand why some people think it would be useful but the cons vastly outweigh the pros here and it's a very firm no.

If you change your mind about something that you've said, simply edit your post. Change it to say "edited: nevermind" or something. That seems to be what most people do.

Siri 03-17-2009 06:01 PM

Wow, I didn't even realize half of these things. xD;;

Forget that I suggested we should get this option. Xb

Bartuc 03-18-2009 11:10 AM

Fabby
We can try to stop it but it doesn't stop the cheaters from cheating and just creates more work for us we dont need. We don't need to be chasing extra people for cheating on something that is preventable on the coders end.

ellaangelus 03-21-2009 06:31 PM

oh i didn't realised that
sorry if i suggested
you can lock it up or erase the topic
i didn't knew all those consequences
