"Certainly." Chrys grabbed a glass out of nowhere as he walked to the bar and pulled a bottle out of the mini fridge beneath the counter. He filled about a third of the glass and then brought it and the bottle back over to the couch were Zaitsu sat. He offered the wine glass to him, smiling pleasantly.
"For you," he said gently as he set the bottle down on a nearby table. |
"Thank you," he said with another slightly awkward smile. He took a drink of the liquor, thoroughly enjoying it.
"You're welcome," Chrys reciprocated properly. "Now, I have to dash for the evening. But here." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a white card with a phone number written on it. "That's my cell. Call me if you ever need and/or want me." He winked. "Feel better, Zaitsu. I like my friends to be healthy, it's important to me." He bowed his head and then turned, walking towards the staircase. |
He looked down at the card in silence, finally speaking to himself once Chrys was up in his room, "But Zaitsu doesn't have a phone..." he said with a quiet sigh. He finished his wine, smiling softly to himself, then got up, looking around the bar.
"Might as well finish up his duties..." he said to himself, putting away the bottle and cleaning the glass. After that was done, he scrubbed the floor of the bar, then returned to his room for the night. |
Mona hovered by the bar with a cigarette in her lips as she talked quietly with her brother.
"I'm glad to see you around more," she said, twin drifts of smoke lifting from her lips. "I just wish that you would come around more before you found some pretty thing to lay your fangs on." "I'm getting rebound after all of that deprivation, you know that." Chrys tossed back another swallow of gin. "Just so happens that I found him here and this is where he lives, it's not at all the same thing." "Oh, thanks, that makes me feel so much better," Mona grumbled, rolling her eyes. "You know I love you, child. I would've thought that you would be fed up with me by now, to be quite honest." Mona shook her head and took another drag, staring up at the ceiling. "I guess it's still to much to hope that this place will one day be restored to former glory." |
Today his hair was longer; wilder. It fell a little past his shoulders and look as though it had never seen a brush in his life, nor did it have to. His eyes were ice blue today, most likely from wearing contacts as he wasn't wearing his glasses.
He wore a rich, dark blue colored sleeveless shirt and a pair of black jeans along with his usual black work boots. Making his way into the kitchen, he started his cleaning ritual all over again. |
Chrys watched wordlessly as Zaitsu entered and then went into the kitchen again.
"Kinda bothers me how he doesn't even say anything when he sees you, though," he said, furrowing his brow. "It's better than you, at least," Mona laughed, patchouli-scented smoke spilling after her cigarette. " 'Morning, dyke; make me a sandwich'. " She shook her head and smirked at him. "His quiet is nice. I don't have to put up with any ruckus." "More like awkward," Chrys commented. "Ah, but whatever. I once entertained thie beauty who was mute, did I ever tell you about her?" "Yeah, ya did. You said you liked her a lot because she couldn't scream when you bit into her." "Perfect darling, loved her to death. Can't remember her name for the life of me...." |
He scrubbed every inch of the kitchen clean, then moved on to the bar. Starting in the same corner he always did, working his way throughout the bar.
"Is that a compulsory habit for you, Zaitsu?" Chrys called to him, teasing, since he already knew the answer.
Mona sighed and said something about going hunting before she kissed her brother and departed in a flash of invisible physics. |
"Yeah," he replied quietly. "It is..." Once done with the floor, he took the bucket into the kitchen to empty out. He got another, cleaner bucket, and went back to the bar, scrubbing each and every table, chair, and the counter of the bar. He was working faster than usual, almost as though trying to lose himself in it.
Chrys sighed and said nothing else. He filled his shot glass five times over the minutes that went by...how many were there? He started considering the idea of leaving, what with Mona gone and the only one there trying to drown himself in buckets and sponges. How boring....
Once Zaitsu was done cleaning, and had cleaned himself up a bit too, he went back to the bar and approached Chrys. "There... Wouldn't happen to be any books in this place... Would there...?" he asked quietly, kind of awkwardly.
"Not out here, no," Chrys said, shrugging with a light smile. "Mona has some in her room though. Would you like to take a look?" He was already getting to his feet, though, heading back towards the kitchen.
"I doubt she'd appreciate it if I borrowed her books," he said with a sigh. "That's alright. I can just reread one of the books I have in my room."
"She'd be fine with it. Trust me, I know." Chrys reached out and gently slid his fingers around Zaitsu's before pulling him along through the kitchen and to Mona's bedroom. "What kind of books do you like? Anything you were looking for in particular?"
"Anything, I don't really mind what it is. I just feel the need to read..."
"Read this?" Chrys pulled a book off one of the shelves and pressed it into Zaitsu's hands. "Can't say I'm a fan of the old reads, but Mona has a thing for antiques." He shrugged giving the book one last glance at the dusty volume of One Thousand and One Nights in Zaitsu's grasp. "Though, supposedly, this one is rather nice."
"I have a thing for books in general," he said quietly, an almost invisible flush on his cheeks.
"Well that's lovely," Chrys sad, quite sincerely. "Personally, I have a thing for glass and gunplay, but that's just me." He turned and sat on Mona's bed. "My sister likes older books. Her favorites include the one you hold along with things like The Divine Comedy, The Tale of Genji, The Epic of Gigamesh, Upanishads...you know...dusty tales. I was never much into history but my mother and Mona love it."
He gestured to the top shelf where a line of similarly bound, red-covered books were. "Those are my great-grandfather's war journals back from the Chandric clashes with the Malevere. Boring as dirt in my opinion, but the little tart read all of them in one sitting. Took her three days, but she didn't once get up from the armchair in our livingroom...one of the livingrooms, anyway...." |
"History both interests me and repulses me. I guess when you're part of history, you can't help but hold your breath when you see yourself mentioned. But at the same time, you crave to learn about the history of other nations..."
"You mean you crave to know about other people's history." Chrys laughed. "I might consider doing some digging if it really intrigues me, but I like looking forward more than looking back, to be honest." He crashed backwards onto the bed and shut his eyes. "You can pick whichever ones you like from there."
"Err... Well, no, not just me... I meant my kind... Well, half of my kind, anyways... I'm not a full blooded demon, but I don't think I'll ever identify with my other half." He smiled a little weakly.
Chrys smirked and raised an eyebrow, still keeping his gaze blind.
"I was saying 'you' as compared to 'me'." |
"I'm sure there are tremendous differences between us. I've only ever met one other person that was a lot like me..."
"Same here. And he was half dragon...." Chrys breathed a bit, thinking about a familiar pair of bi-colored eyes that were lost to him now. One absolutely perfect lover...missing with no trace. Ah, 'twas a tragedy. Chrys smiled.
