Visualizing

Uh-huh.

Sooo. I've got a bunch of different stories all floating around in my head. Most of the characters are fairly well-defined in their quirks, faults, personalities, etc. But I have no clue what they look like. D: A few characters I have a vague notion of, but most of them I'm dead-blank.

Any advice for possibly discovering your character's physical appearance? (Or for plural characters?)

You can try drawing them. Or just think of individual features. If there's special meaning you want to give them, try expressing it with certain features. Eyes have stereotypes, or you can go against "type". Same with hair. The way people do their hair says a lot about them. Curled hair takes time, unless it's natural. If it is natural they can try to tame it or leave it be. Short hair could mean they don't have the time or they're expressing themselves. Moles or tattoos can also be an interesting thing to add too. I hope I was helpful. Remember, it doesn't have to be exact, your readers will fill in a lot of the details themselves, sometimes different ones than those described. Sometimes their personality is so strong it suggests a look already so you can assume they look like that or give details that go against type. (For example a perky girl that's popular could have a short haircut instead of that typical blonde one)
