"And I am kind to Ariala, who, might I add, is the girl you've been in love with for so very long and who stole the man I was engaged to, if you want to put labels on them! I am kind to the girl you always defend, the girl you always take the side of, and the girl you were so determined to win back from Dimitrius. So how dare you lecture me about disliking Erreminette when she was the one who was the cruelest of the three," Emelaide said heatedly with a scowl, "Perhaps I am not the only one being difficult, Marreck."
|
"Erreminette is not cruel." Marreck countered bitterly. "She may be childish and stubborn but I think you should keep in mind that you almost killed her." He added pointedly. "I just don't see why you two can't just let bygones be bygones after all this time. It hardly seemes mature for all this to continue on."
|
"She deserved to be frozen after what she said and did," Emelaide countered. "It is not my fault she's a weak child who can't defend herself with nothing more than a few vines. And there you go again! Taking their side once again, as always. Everything they do is forgivable and understandable in your eyes, but nothing I do or say is. I am always in the wrong, no matter what the situation. Whether it be in regards to Ariala, in regards to Emelaide, in regards to this pregnancy. Everything I do or say is wrong and childish."
|
"I am not saying you're in the wrong all the time!" Marreck hissed, fustrated as he ran his hands through his hair. "But maybe freezing an elf and hoping she dies isn't the best way to end a quarrel over something as petty as a boy." Marreck growled as he stood up. "And in case you haven't noticed I'm also a Spring Elf and I'm sorry that my weak little vines are as all powerful as you are." He said before turning and walking into the bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
|
Burying her face in her palms, Emelaide felt tears run town her cheeks but she paid them no mind as she started to cry. "In Winterglade, freezing an elf wouldn't result in the elf dying. It doesn't really do much of anything, to be perfectly honest. We are a part of the ice, and it is a part of us. It is our home, and it would never hurt us. With her being from Elimlee, I merely hoped for a bad cold... How was I to know it was nearly kill her? What she said to me truly deserved such a punishment.. I just.. wish he had been there and wish he would believe me," Emelaide murmured through her tears.
"And why must he take every comment I make about Erreminette's magic personally as if I am talking about his magic? I was merely saying that her magic was pathetic and school grade level for her age, and it should have been better... It wasn't anything to do with the type of magic, perse. Just merely her level and skill with magic..." Without much words of wisdom, Jessi sighed as he gently rubbed Emelaide's back, trying to come up with some words of wisdom for the poor girl. |
Marreck seethed in the bedroom, knowing he had to go back out there and make peace didn't make him feel any better either. In fact, it made him feel much worse. Why should he apologize when she insulted Elimlee magic? He didn't see and prospering plants in Winterglade, only ice and snow. Sure it was pretty at first but after a while he just wanted to a see a tree that wasn't permanently stuck in hibernation.
Marreck stormed to the closet, pulling on a coat and gloves before walking back out to the dining room, arms folded over his chest. "I'm going to go see Dimitrius about getting Jessi a job since it seems Moe hasn't returned yet. Besides," Marreck frowned when he saw Emelaide crying. "I need some time to cool off right now." He added before nearly running out the door and into the snow, taking a long route back towards Elimlee to allow himself some time to think. |
Sighing, as Emelaide just sobbed harder, her forehead now resting on her forearms as her arms rested against the tabletop, Jessi tried to soothe her. "Though you meant to only insult Erreminette's magic, it did insult Marreck's magic as well because he too grows things, vines included. He very much likes to see things live, correct? (To which Emelaide nodded.) Then why do you not take a small plant out of hibernation and plant it in the house, give him something that is living here in a Kingdom where everything grows but remains dormant," Jessi suggested gently as he rubbed Emelaide's back.
"But I do not know where to even begin looking for such a compatible plant..." Emelaide said softly as she wiped her eyes through her sniffles. "I'm an Autumn Elf -- I know plants by looking at them whether they are dormant or thriving. After all, I start the process of them going into slumber, do I not?" Jessi added with a wink. "If I could borrow a jacket I will be back in moments with a plant perfect for your present, if you would like to try to make amends in this way." Emelaide nodded, "Yes, yes. Please. There should be an extra jacket hanging in the closet. I don't know why I never thought of that before... He never said anything... Though I suppose I should have known, shouldn't I.... This is all my fault," Emelaide whispered through her tears. "In part, yes. But it is also partly his fault. However, I think trying to make amends is the best thing you can do right now," Jessi soothed with a smile before hurrying off to get a jacket as Emelaide nodded. "I'll be back soon with a beautiful tree and a pot for it to thrive in," Jessi said with a warm smile, which Emelaide tried to return. With that, Jessi was gone off in search of a plant and Emelaide was left to herself to cry until she fell asleep at the kitchen table. |
"Ariala?" Marreck called as he knocked on the door to his friend's home. "Is Dimitrius in there?" He asked, opening the door slightly when he received no response. Marreck's mouth dropped open when he saw Ariala standing in the kitchen, surrounded by open cookbooks and flour covering nearly every surface.
"Marreck?" Ariala asked, turnign to face him with floured hands, wiping them on a nearby table. "What do you need?" "What are you doing?" Marreck asked, confused. "I'm baking, Marreck. I just need something to do with my hands because laying around this empty house has made me feel completely hopeless." She exclaimed, tossing her hands in the air before turning back to her cookie dough and scooping it onto a baking sheet. "Why isn't Dimitrius or Dimeria here?" Marreck wondered innocently. "Because everytime I do something I mess it up like a fool. I made a huge mistake and now Dimitrius wants some time apart." Ariala said, gripping the counter to keep herself from crying again. "Ari." Marreck shook his head, walking over and putting his arms around her. "Ari, its going to be alright. You and Dimitrius love each other." "Why did you come here?" Ariala asked, shaking off his hands as she placed the baking sheet in the oven. "Uh, well. Em and I had a fight too." Marreck chuckled softly. "I came here to clear my head. And plus we have a man who's living with us right now and looking for a place to work. We thought he could help build the house." "Yeah, that sounds fine just have him talk to the contractor." Ariala waved her hand as Erreminette's knock made both of their heads turn. "Oh, well having a party without me?" Erreminette asked playfully when she walked inside. |
Finding a fig tree, Jessi grinned. Having bought a large pot from the market, Jessi began using his magic to clear away the snow and lift the tree from the semi-defrosted ground. Placing into the pot with lots of soil compacted around it, he used his magic to put a little nutrients into the soil and help the soil and tree start the process of coming back to life. Filling in the hole where the tree was and kicking snow over it so it would go back into hibernation, Jessi lifted the pot and began his trek back to Emelaide and Marreck's house.
When he arrived he cleaned himself off before going inside. After hanging up his jacket, Jessi held up the pot with a grin at Emelaide, "A fig tree!" Emelaide jarred awake and wiped the drying tears from her eyes. Smiling, Emelaide wheeled herself over to Jessi as he set he pot down on the floor. "What do you think? Jessi asked with a smile. "It's perfect," Emelaide whispered as she gently touched the bare branches, allowing her magic to melt the snow and warm it, using the water that melted from the snow as rain water to wet the soil. "Is there anything you can do to make it grow?" "I'm afraid not," Jessi said softly, "But perhaps Marreck can do that himself when he returns." Emelaide nodded, "Yes. Can you put it in the corner of the living room, near the window?" "Of course," Jessi said with a smile as he did as he was asked. |
"Did you ever think that maybe this is why they don't usually allow marriages between seasons?" Erreminette asked her friends as they sat around the table with tea and the mound of cookies that Ariala had baked.
"No." Ariala and Marreck said at the same time, making them both laugh. "No, I never considered it. I don't think it has to do with me and Dimitrius arguing sometimes. I love him so much." Ariala said softly. "I love him and its always felt right, even if other elves still look at us strangely." "I agree, Em and I argue over magic sometimes like today. But I still love her with everything I have and that's never going to change. Sometimes you just can't control how much you love a person." Marreck shrugged. "You guys are so strange. My crazy, crazy friends." Erreminette laughed as she grabbed a cookie from the middle of the table. "And what about you, Erre?" Ariala asked curiously, leaning forward. "Any boys we should be concerned about sweeping you away?" "Absolutely not." Erremientte rolled her eyes. "You guys said itw when you said that you just know. I haven't felt it yet. So I am far from being swept away." She laughed. "But I'm glad I have you guys." She said shyly, making Ariala tear up a bit. "I love you guys. Always." Ariala said quietly. "Aw, you mushy girls." Marreck rolled his eyes, making them both glare. "But I love you guys too." He assured them, reaching out to give both their hands a squeeze. |
"Hey, Emelaide? Why don't we go order the furniture and get some groceries and pans so Marreck can have a nice dinner to come home to," Jessi suggested as he looked over at Emelaide, trying to find something to get her out of the house and away from the fig tree she couldn't take her eyes off of.
"Sure," Emelaide said with a smile as she returned to the kitchen and grabbed the lists. Leaving a note for Marreck, Emelaide sighed as she set it on the table and returned to Jessi. After helping Emelaide with her jacket, Jessi put on the one he had borrowed from Marreck and they soon began their journey around the market gathering what supplies they could carry and ordering the furniture. |
"What were you guys fighting over anyways?" Erreminette asked curiously, looking over at Marreck.
"You." Marreck rolled his eyes. "Well I'm flattered, Marreck. But neither of you are my type." Erreminette laughed playfully, not seeing the cookie Marreck tossed until it hit her forehead. "Very funny. I suggested you paint the mural in the nursery. Emelaide got upset that I brought you up and we just argued. The girl has quite the temper." Marreck shook his head. "I'd love to paint the mural." Erreminette smiled happily. "If you can play nice with Emelaide." Ariala added, making Erreminette scowl. "I didn't think about that." Erreminette admitted with an eye roll. "Can you do for it my babies?" Marreck asked, putting on his puppy dog eyes. "Well...maybe." "Erre-" Ariala said sternly. "Of course, I'll do it for you." Erreminette smiled pleasantly. |
When they returned home, arms and lap full of pots and pans and groceries, Emelaide was surprised to find movers waiting to be let in and to move in some of the furniture Marreck and Emelaide had picked out.
"'gladians are fast workers, aren't they," Jessi said with a laugh as he hurried along with Emelaide to the house. It wasn't long before the groceries, pots and pans, and furniture were all put into their proper places and Emelaide was grinning happily while cooking Marreck's favorite meal from Elimlee. "Well you look happier," Jessi commented as he set the table for dinner. "I am, and I wish Marreck would come home so I could apologize," Emelaide said sadly as she prepared dinner as best she could, getting help here and there from Jessi when she couldn't reach things. "Do you think he'll be happier? With what we've done?" "I think so," Jessi said with a warm smile, "I mean, how could he be angry with you for trying to bring plants to life into your home when it is highly uncustomary for Winterglade? |
"I think I need to get back to Winterglade." Marreck sighed, eyeing the clock. "I have some apologizing to do tonight." He shook his head as he stood up and put on his jacket.
"Come back soon, alright?" Ariala asked softly. "I miss having you around." She admitted as Marreck wrapped her in a bear hug. "Of course. I'll see you guys later." Marreck called as he waved his hand and left, making his way back to Winterglade. "Will you stay a little longer?" Ariala asked Erreminette. "As long you need me to. But let's make some food cause I'm starved." Erreminette smiled before getting up and rummaging through the cupboards. |
By the time Moe finally found Dimitrius, he was on his way back to Cindalina's for the night. Relaying the message a bit angrily, Moe glared at Dimitrius from the palm of his hand. Dimitrius chuckled as he patted Moe on the head, "I'm sorry Moe. You could have told Ariala though! Still, tell Em I'll be over tomorrow to see her and meet Jessi. I'm sure he could be very helpful with the project in one way or another."
With that, Moe hurried back to Emelaide and told her the message as he curled up in her lap. Feeding him some fruit, Emelaide smiled as she told Jessi the good news, "Well, it looks like you may have a job after all Jessi!" "That's great! It'll be nice to feel productive again," Jessi said with a laugh. As Moe headed back home, Emelaide went back to putting dinner on the table and getting dessert into the oven to bake. Fresh apple pie with cinnamon sugar whipped topping to decorate it. |
"Emelaide?" Marreck called as he walked inside their home, hanging up his jacket and looking around at the furniture. Damn it... Marreck frowned. I should've been here to help them move in all of this...
"Em?" He tried again, spotting her in the kitchen and feeling a heavy wad of guilt sink in his stomach as he saw a hot meal already cooked for dinner. Marreck strode quickly to Emelaide's wheelchair, sinking beside it. "Em, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have walked out on you, love." He murmured softly, taking one of her hands. |
Smiling with a sigh of relief, Emelaide threw her arms around Marreck's neck and buried her face in his shoulder. "I was afraid you weren't coming," Emelaide whispered as she leaned back and placed a long, tender kiss on Marreck's lips. Still smiling with happiness, Emelaide caressed Marreck's cheek as she looked into his eyes. "Jessi, can you take care of the pie and whipped topping? I have something to show my fiance that will make him very happy."
Jessi chuckled as he went into the kitchen with a nod, "Of course." "I'm so very sorry I lost my temper with you. I didn't mean what I said, and especially not in the way you took it, I promise you. I have something for you. Jessi was kind enough to go find it for me and give me the idea," Emelaide said happily as she motioned to the living room and lead Marreck there. "Jessi helped me get a start on the Kitchen and took me to get the furniture order placed. A lot of it came in while we were gone shopping," Emelaide said happily. "I know it looks dead now, but it's starting to wake," Emelaide said happily as she lead Marreck to the potted fig tree, "All it needs is a little magic. Do you like it?" |
"You got us a fig tree!" Marreck lightened up like a young child, his eyes shining as he put his hand over the soil and used some magic to give strength back to the small plant. "Thank you, Emelaide. I love you." He murmured before giving her lips a long kiss. "I promise I'll try to be better about my temper." He said between kisses, one of his hands running through her hair.
|
"I knew you'd love it when Jessi told me what it was," Emelaide murmured softly as one hand caressed his cheek while the other caressed his waist, "I love you so very much, Marreck. I assure you I wasn't trying to hurt you when I spoke about Erreminette's magic. It was her skill and level that I was talking cruelly about, not the magic itself," Emelaide explained softly. "And I am so very sorry that I grew so angry and fought with you.. If you wish Erreminette to paint the meadow in the nursery, then I will no make a fuss about it, I promise," Emelaide said with a warm smile as she placed a long, sweet kiss upon Marreck's lips.
|
"Thank you, Emelaide." Marreck smiled before reluctantly ending their kisses. "I love you. And dinner smells delicous." He grinned, taking her hand.
|
"I'm glad you think so! I made your favorite," Emelaide said with a grin as she led him over to the table. "I think I got it right, but you'll have to tell me what's missing if I didn't. I tried to remember your Mom's recipe though," Emelaide added with a smile as Jessi joined them.
"And there is apple pie in the oven baking. It should be done by the time dinner is over," Jessi added with a nod, "Your fiancee is quite the cook, Marreck." |
"That she is." Marreck smiled happily as he sat down. "I happen to be very lucky." Marreck winked at at Emelaide as he filled his plate with his favorite meal. "I'm very sorry that I wasn't here to help you both move things in. I shouldn't have walked away like I did." He apologied.
|
"Don't be silly," Jessi said as he helped himself as well, "The store was very considerate of Emelaide and sent over enough movers so that we didn't have all that much to do. I mainly just put the kitchen things away while Emelaide directed the living room."
"Do you like the arrangement?" Emelaide asked as she took a bite of the meal, "I was a bit iffy on some things, but I think it worked out rather well in the end. But if there is anything you'd like differently I'm sure Jessi will help you move it," Emelaide added with smile. |
"I think it looks great." Marreck encouraged before taking a bite of his supper. "This is incredible, Em. Really." He smiled happily.
|
"I think I've found my way back into his good graces," Emelaide said teasingly as she winked at Jessi, "Remind me to cook his favorite meal every time we get into a scuff and I'll be forgiven in no time!"
