Startled, Dimitrius stood up and looked towards the direction in which the voice came. Forcing the snow to come to a complete stop, he looked over at the shivering elf. Walking over to her, he took off his jacket and wrapped it around her, "What are you doing here, love? Don't you have lessons this afternoon?"
|
"My friends needed me. And I need my rest." Ariala said. "My master knows how hard he's been working me. He told me that I can take the day off. Of course, that means double work tomorrow." Ariala said, huddling in his jacket. She glanced around at the piles of snow that stood almost as tall as her. "Impressive." Ariala murmured.
|
Dimitrius blushed, "Ah, you noticed the snow. I'm afraid my magic rather went erratic with my temper. Wrapping his arms around her, he began rubbing her arms to help keep warm her, "Come, let's get you back to your friends. I don't think they'll appreciate you running off and freezing to death while playing."
|
Ariala laughed as she wrapped her arms closer to her. "What's got you so upset?" Ariala asked as they walked.
|
"Nothing too serious, my love. Simply Emelaide and her wretched temper. That girl is going to drive me to an asylum soon, I promise you," Dimitrius added with a chuckle as he pulled her closer to him while they walked.
|
Ariala smiled as she leaned against Dimitrius. "She does seem to have a bad temper. Her trying to kill Erre and all that." She said as they approached the border.
"I'll see you in a few hours." She said, shrugging off her jacket and stood on her tiptoes for a small kiss. Without another word, Ariala skipped off the meadow to rejoin her friends. |
Slipping his jacket back on, Dimitrius smiled after Ariala. Turning back towards Winterglade, he sighed as he walked through the forest, making his way back to the village to run a few errands before his engagement with Ariala that evening.
|
"Where'd you go?" Erreminette asked as Ariala reentered the meadow.
"There's was some weird winds coming from the border so I checked it out." Ariala answered calmly. "Checked it out?" Marreck asked, as if she had just told them the village had been destroyed. "You just wandered into a foreign land to 'check things out'?" He asked. "Relax Marreck." Erreminette chided. "She's not the only one here who has entered 'foreign land'." She said, rolling her eyes. "She could've been hurt. She said the winds were 'weird'. Who knows who could've been causing them." Marreck argued at Erreminette. "Dimitrius was causing them. No harm done." Ariala said quickly. "And what do you mean I'm not the only one who's been to Winterglade?" She asked cautiously. |
Dimitrius' first stop was at the Painters to request a set of paints to be made. Unfortunately, Emelaide had stopped in for new brushes shortly after he entered the shop.
The two cautiously eyed each other before Emelaide walked over to him, dressed in a simple gown, small puffed sleeves, a semi-low neckline that revealed just a hint of her bare chest, very loose fitting from the bodice down to her toes. "Dressed for a party?" inquired Dimitrius sarcastically. "Not quite. I plan to draw this evening while my brushes are made being made." "And so you dress in your favorite dress?" "Precisely. My logic is that if I dress my best, my art shall reflect it." "That would be your logic, my dear." "Please excuse me, I need to speak with Johnathan." As she walked past him, her arm gently brushed against his. "Forgive me," she muttered before smiling and stating her business to Johnathan. When she was through, she left the shop and returned home to fetch her paper and charcoal before heading to the border to draw landscapes in Elimlee while waiting for Marreck. Dimitrius, on the other hand, finished his order and awaited the paints to be made while he spoke with Johnathan, passing the time until it was time for him to meet Ariala. |
"Uhm, I met Emelaide." Marreck said carefully. "We've been seeing each other more lately. You could say we've become good friends." He said quietly, backing away.
"You're leaving out the kissing part." Erreminette said, bitterly remembering the memory of being frozen. "Kissing?" Ariala asked, on the verge of hysteria. "You kissed Emelaide and I was uninformed? What are you playing at? She's nothing but spiteful and reckless!" She yelled, thunder rumbling overhead as her anger grew. "You saw what that girl did to Erre and you still kiss her? Not even mentioning the time she tried to freeze me. You disgust me." She spat, anger running through her. "Oh, I can't go see Emelaide but you can run and throw yourself all over that stupid Winter Elf boy?" Marreck questioned, his own anger reflected in the red in his cheeks. "Do you even realize who you hurt when you act on instinct rather then reason?" He yelled, feeling the rain that was a result of Ariala's anger. "Calm down guys." Erreminette said but both sped off in the direction of their own Winter Elves. "So much for a peaceful afternoon." She murmured. |
As Emelaide walked through the woods carrying her eisle, paper, and charcoal, she bumped into Ariala, her paper and charcoal flying everywhere. Sighing, Emelaide shot a glare in Ariala's direction, "Don't be so quick to lose your temper, it clouds your eyes. Whatever Dimitrius has done, you'd best calm yourself before you see him, you'll say things you will regret, especially with the temper he's put himself into as of late."
Sitting down on her knees, Emelaide began gathering her things. Standing up with her things neatly put back into her arms, she nodded a goodbye at Ariala, "Good day, Ariala. 'Tis good to see that you're in better condition than when I saw you last. And please forgive me for the near death experience, my magic does run away at times." With that, she continued on her way towards Elimlee, not realizing she was moments away from meeting a very furious Marreck. |
Ariala supressed a screech at the ignorant elf. "You-You. How...Marreck!" Her voice was constricted to nothing as her anger rose. The thunder clouds rolled above Ariala's head as she whirled to walk away.
Not realizing how close she had come to Dimitrius, Ariala gave in to her anger. Rain poured down around her as her temper exploded. "Traitor." She growled, wilting a tree next to her. "Stupid...Marreck...Traitor...How could he possibly? After everything!" She roared as she fell against the ground, weak from the weather change. Her anger fizzled as she sat in the grass, confused and upset. ~-~-~ "The nerve of that girl!" Marreck cursed at nobody in paticular. "Judging me when she's just running about with him." He spat, saying 'him' as if he was talking about dirt. Marreck leaned up against a tree, forcing himself to take deep breaths. "Just relax." He murmured to himself, forcing his breathing to remain even. |
Dimitrius looked up from his painting in surprise, not expecting to meet Ariala for another few hours.
After he had gotten his paints, he felt the urge to paint something, hoping to surprise Ariala with a Winter Wonderland scene the sunset would bring. However, since she caught him in the middle of the work, he sighed as he set down the brush, "You have awful timing, love." Noticing the wilted tree and the storm soaking Ariala, Dimitrius stood up and ran over to her. Kneeling beside her trembling body, Dimitrius' eyes filled with concern, "Ariala? What on earth is the matter with you? What happened?" -------------------- Emelaide, her eyes glistening as tears began to form, emerged from behind a tree, her things nearly falling from her lack of effort in holding them. "I believe it is safe to assume that it was indeed not a fight with Dimitrius, but you, that set her off in a whirlwind to Winterglade. I believe it is also safe to assume, from your words, that you regret saying certain things to me and still wish for Ariala. Since that is the case, I shall take my leave and say goodnight. Goodbye, Marreck." Shifting her things so that she could cling to them, almost in comfort, as she turned and began running swiftly back the way she had come. |
Ariala felt the tears rolling down her face, cursing her habit of crying when she was angry. She leaned against Dimitrius, resting her drenched hair against his shirt. She'd have to make that up to him later. Ariala put her magic at rest, lifting the rain.
"Did you know about Marreck and Emelaide?" She asked, her voice lacking any real emotion. Her, supposed, best friend had betrayed her, had gotten together with the girl that had tried attempts at both her and Erreminette's lives. This was beginning to be a very bad day. ~-~-~ "Emelaide!" Marreck called, snapping back to reality at her words, he ran after her at full speed. His muscles screamed in pain as he ran to catch her, taking her arm and turning her towards him. "Bad assumption." He gasped, his lungs heaving with effort. "Very bad assupmtion. Wrong assumption." He lifted his free hand in a gesture for her to let him pause. "Need breath. Very fast." He said, his mind unable to form actual sentences. |
Dimitrius sighed as he gently stroked her hair, wrapping his other arm around her waist to pull her close and gently caress the small of her back, "I did, I found out only this morning. I didn't feel it was right to tell you, I felt it best to let Marreck himself tell you since he was your friend and it was his business. Besides, you were all playing so happily today, I didn't want to ruin it. Was it wrong of me not to warn you?"
---------------- Emelaide, un-phased by the run, turned her back to him, "Marreck, I can tell you still love her, why else would you two fight and then you say those things as you are trying to calm down? I'm not stupid, Marreck, nor am I blind. You love her, simple as that, I get it. Now if you don't mind, I must return home." Unable to hold back her tears any longer, Emelaide set off into another run before Marreck could see her cry. Sensing Ariala and Dimitrius nearby, Emelaide made a quick turn and headed deeper into the woods to avoid meeting with them. |
"I don't like them together." Ariala confessed. "She froze Erreminette and she treid to freeze me." She sighed. "Am I selfish for saying that?" She asked.
~-~-~ "Emelaide!" Marreck yelled, chasing after her once again. His energy mostly restored, Marreck was able to breathe easier as he ran. "Come on, slow down Emelaide. You have the wrong idea." He sighed as he continued to run hopelessly. The breeze from Winterglade chilled his bones and he decided to use his last card. "Don't leave me to freeze here, Em." He called, her back still to him. "Just please let me explain." |
Dimitrius softly chuckled, "Aye, Em does have one hell of a temper. But she is truly a good woman deep inside, once you get past her jealous tendencies. And although your views are a tad selfish, they are understandable and normal for one who's been hurt by her in such ways as you have. But I do think you should give her a chance. She loves Marreck, she told me herself this morning. I believe she's truly fallen for him, and I think she deserves a chance at happiness."
----------------- Even though Emelaide tried to hide them, her sobs were soon carried in the gusts of wind as she stopped. Still not facing Marreck, Emelaide clung her things tighter to her bosom and called back to him, "Just go home, Marreck. You'll die if you continue going here dressed like that. Your precious Ariala won't like to see you dead, so just go home before you die." Though she spoke harsh words, Emelaide felt her magic raising the temperature around Marreck, her love for him overpowering her anger towards him and acting accordingly. |
"I guess." Ariala said. "And won't that mean that she'll stop harressing me about being with you now?" She asked hopefully.
Ariala shuddered, still wet from the rain. She had never tried it before but Ariala sent her magic upwards, hoping for warmth and the sun shone down, beginning to dry her clothes. ~-~-~ Marreck smiled slightly, she had stopped and that was an improvement. "Just hear me out Em. Ariala and I were fighting because she was upset because she found out about us. She started yelling at me because she feels betrayed since you did kind of try to kill Erreminette. Ariala has always known how to upset me best, which is why I was so angry. I don't want her Em. You have to know that I stood up for us because I do want to be with you." He finished, crouching beside her and putting and arm gently around her, still wary of her temper. "Maybe I just like girls with really bad tempers." He teased lightly, resting her head on his shoulder. "Please don't cry." |
Dimitrius nodded and placed a gentle kiss upon her forehead, "Precisely. Which is the biggest reason why it's good for her to have fallen for Marreck. This way we will not have to deal with her jealous tendencies nor her vast temper."
Slipping his jacket around her wet frame, Dimitrius held her close to him, trying to warm her, "Now, don't you think we'd better get you back to Elimlee before you catch a cold?" -------------- Emelaide let her things fall to the ground as she cling to Marreck, her nails digging into his shoulder as her tears wet his shirt, her body resting against his as she clung to him. "Are you sure?" she asked softly, almost hesitantly, through her sobs, "Are you sure you want me? Even with all my quirks and faults?" |
"I'll walk." Ariala said grimly. "Clearing my head and all that. See you tonight." She said.
Slipping his jacket off and handing it back, Ariala turned and walked away back to Elimlee. ~-~-~ "If I didn't want to be with you I wouldn't have chased you halfway through the forest." Marreck said, tightening his grip as he held her against him. "No more tears, Emelaide." He said softly, kissing her forehead. "If you'll have me then I certainly wish to be with you." Marreck began to run his hand that had formerly been around her shoulder to her back where he traced up and down her spine in an effort to calm her. His other hand moved to her chin and pulled her face upwards. Marreck began to kiss her softly. "Be happy?" He asked as he kissed away the tears that were still on her cheeks. |
Dimitrius sighed and called out for her, "Ariala, wait."
Catching up to her, he gently pulled her to a hault, "Ariala, what's wrong. Why are you this much against Emelaide being happy and falling in love with Marreck?" -------------- Emelaide couldn't help but smile as she leaned into his kisses. Placing her lips in his path as she tried her best to stop the tear flow, Emelaide kissed Marreck tenderly. As her hand gently caressed his cheek, Emelaide gently kissed his nose, "I am happy just simply being with you, I love you." |
"I'm fine." She said, trying to sound sure. "Really. It just makes me uneasy. She was so in love with you and now she's with Marreck? I mean, what if she sees us together and then she gets jealous without realizing it. I don't want to see Marreck hurt."
~-~-~ "And I love you." Marreck said. He brought his hand from her chin around her lower back. "Be happy." He said warmly, pulling her against him. "I don't like to see you sad." |
Dimitrius sighed, "The same could be said for me, love. Was I not in love with Emelaide just as much before I met you? Perhaps it is like her how it was with me, perhaps she sees the missing part of her she was hoping to find in me, within Marreck."
------------- Emelaide nodded as she held him tight, hugging herself against him as she rested her cheek upon his chest, "As long as I am sure you do not still yearn for Ariala, I will be always be happy when we are not apart. I cannot guarantee I will be as happy for when we are not together, I miss you like crazy." Placing a gentle kiss upon his shoulder, Emelaide leaned back out of his embrace and looked up at him, her hand gently massaging her forehead, "You'd best get back to Elimlee, though. I don't know how much longer I can keep the temperature this warm, and there's no way you'll survive getting back without my magic dressed like this." |
Ariala froze. She hadn't thought of that. What if Dimitrius got jealous and saw them together and realized he made a mistake with Ariala? It wouldn't be the first time she had been left by a boy who promised his love to her. Ariala opened her mouth to speak when she realized she had no words.
~-~-~ "Right." Marreck said, standing up and bringing Emelaide with him. He pulled her close for one last kiss before wrapping his arm around her shoulder casually. "Now tell me. Where exactly is Elimlee?" ~-~-~ Erreminette strolled back to the village. So much for an afternoon with friends... She thought bitterly. Looking up at the rope ladders Erreminette gasped. Adan smiled down at Erreminette with a large grin. "Hello there. Its been a while." He said casually. |
Dimitrius, seeing her reaction, quickly held her gainst him, "Don't even speak those thoughts, love. It will never happen, I promise you. I did not say it to frighten you or to put such thoughts into that mind of yours, I simply meant to comfort you. I meant to comfort you so that you know that Emelaide's feelings for Marreck are true and will therefore not hurt him."
Tilting her chin up so that his eyes met hers, he hoped to make her understand, "I love you Ariala, please tell me you believe me and don't doubt me. I don't want to lose you, can't you see that? You are the only one I will ever truly love in this way, no one in existance will ever come close, even if you leave me." ------------ Leaving her things, hoping the animals would bring them home for her, Emelaide leaned into Marreck, wrapping her arms around his waist, the magic being used taking its toll upon her strength as she tried to keep the temperatures high. Unfortunately for Emelaide, it was harder on her body to raiste temperatures, than to lower them. Pointing at a slight angle in front of her to the right, Emelaide spoke softly, "That way. You should be able to make it in time," she added with a smile as her hand returned to her forehead and began massaging once more. |
