While Marreck slept, Emelaide gained function of her body enough to get out of bed. Throwing on one of her light pull-over hoodies as her magic cooled her body, Emelaide slowly made her way out of her room towards the spare bedroom. Leaning against the door-frame, Emelaide smiled as she looked in on him. Running her hands through her hair, Emelaide sighed as she whispered, "I truly don't deserve someone as wonderful as you..."
Marreck moved slightly in his sleep. He had always been a light sleeper as he woke, still groggy as he listened to Emelaide. "You've got that right." He teased, taking her hand and pulling her towards him. "I love you Emelaide." He said before drifting back to sleep, his eyelids unable to stay open much longer.
Emelaide chuckled softly as she sat down on the bed beside him. Gently brushing the hair from his eyes and caressing his cheek, Emelaide bent down and kissed Marreck's lips gently as she whispered, "I love you too, Marreck, so very much."
Placing another kiss upon his forehead, Emelaide smiled as she watched him sleep, a loving look spread across her face as she thought of how he took care of her, grateful she had such a wonderful person who loved her, and whom she loved dearly in return, in her life. |
Marreck smiled, awake once again. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled Emelaide close to him so that her face was only inches from his. "You're making it very tempting to stay awake." He said, kissing her lips gently.
Emelaide smiled as she gently caressed his cheek and tenderly kissed him before whispering against his lips, "Then I'd best leave you to rest then, hadn't I."
Marreck tightened his grip on her. "Actually, I think you should stay a bit longer." He said, his mind unable to sleep. "I'm young yet. I can sleep when I'm dead." He said. Marreck kissed her again, focusing on her lower lip before moving to kiss her fully.
Emelaide smiled as she kissed him gently. As her lips moved to his cheek, then to his neck, Emelaide murmured softly, "Dearest, you need sleep. You also need food, but that can come after you've had a good nights' sleep," she added as she retraced her kisses and tenderly kissed his lips before leaning back slightly so she could look him in the eyes, "And since you'll get no rest with my being here, I'd best leave you and go back to my room to rest. The temperatures around me are too cold to keep near you too long."
Marreck sighed, he did need his rest but Emelaide was very tempting as well. "You're right." He said, giving her one last kiss before resting his eyes and becoming overwhelmed with sleep.
Emelaide placed a tender kiss upon Marreck's forehead before she gently slipped out of his embrace. "I love you," she whispered, "Get some rest, I'll be just fine until you awake."
------ After Dimitrius went home and showered, he quickly changed and headed off to Emelaide's house to check-up on her and Marreck. |
Marreck slipped into his dream once again, sitting in the tree with Emelaide.
~-~-~ Ariala's forehead shined with sweat as she worked to keep her magic alive. The thunder became less threatening, earning her a harsh look from her Master. "You must learn endurance." He said, his words followed by a clap of thunder so quiet it was barely heard at all. "Stop!" He roared at Ariala, fustrated. "I'm trying." Ariala said, fighting back her tears. She refused to cry in front of her Master. "Again." He said, his voice even. |
Dimitrius knocked on the door and called, "Marreck? Em? You two awake?"
Emelaide quickly rushed to the door and opened it. "Shhh! Marreck's sleeping!" she whispered. Glaring at him, Emelaide shoved him outside and shut the door behind her. "Lovely outfit," Dimitrius commented with a grin, not phased by her temper. "No thanks to you!" Emelaide retorted as she punched him in the jaw, "You jerk! Not only were you a stupid prick when you checked on Marreck before you told him of your engagement, but you purposefully lied to him to make me be in hell until I could speak again! What the hell is wrong with-" Dimitrius smiled as he bent down and placed a kiss on Emelaide's lips to shut her up. The kiss was nothing serious, not passionate - merely affectionate as one would give any friend. "you?!" Emelaide continued unaffected as she eyed him, "I must thank you though. You were the one who calmed Marreck's fears and gave him those clothes, I do appreciate that. I just wish you wouldn't have been such a wretch and teased him so." Dimitrius laughed as he teased, "Em, I couldn't very well stay with you, and the boy was a wreck as it was. I couldn't just leave him like that, what would Ari think?" Emelaide rolled her eyes as she punched him in the chest, "You asinine prick! Can't you do anything without thinking of how it'll effect your relationship with Ariala?" Taking her hands in his, he spoke through gritted teeth, "I did! I did that for you! I knew you'd be worried, and I knew he'd come no matter what. Therefore I gave him something warm to keep on while he watched over you!" Shoving him away as she forced her hands out of his grip, Emelaide glared at him, "And why the hell did you pick out this gown for?! And why did you tell him I twitch?! I don't twitch! When the heat is too much I shove the blankets off as a sign and you know it!" "The dress, was for Marreck, and for you too. I knew he'd love you in it, and I thought you'd rather be in one of your favorite gowns than in one of your tattered old ones you refuse to throw away! As for the twitching, I couldn't help myself. You couldn't contradict me and he didn't know any better. I figured it'd help you warm your temper a bit and put some kindness back into you. Apparently I was wrong!" "Apparently! All it did was make me irritable!" "As I can fully tell!" "Ugh! Why don't you just run back to Elimlee to your fiancee!" "Is that why you're so angry? Because I'm engaged?" "Not at all! I'm truly happy for you and Ariala, I simply feel bad for her because she'll have to put up with you for eternity!" "And I feel bad for Marreck! He'll have to put up with you!" As the two bickered and fought, their voices rose and rose in tone, causing them to be shouting in their frustration with one another. |
Marreck woke with a start, hearing voices nearby. What was with all the shouting? He wondered. He slipped out of bed, moving towards the door as the voices became more clear. Dimitrius was here and apparently fighting with Emelaide, he gathered as he was only a foot from reaching the door.
Emelaide, completely infuriated now, began to shake as her strength nearly left her and her magic went hay-wire once more, "Dimitrius Cardei if you don't leave this instant I'll-"
"You'll what, Emelaide? Freeze me? I doubt that. Tell your boyfriend? Go ahead. What's he going to do besides get killed? You know, I'm beginning to regret bringing you home and taking care of you like I did. Maybe I should have just left you there and let Marreck die trying to save you!" As Dimitrius finished his words, he immediately regretted them, "No, Em. I didn't... I didn't mean it like that... It came out wrong.. I-" "Save it. You meant them, and you know it.. just go," Emelaide managed to whisper as the color drained from her face. Never had Dimitrius wished her dead before, never in her life - even after all of the things she had done, all the tempers she'd been in - never had he ever said such a cruel thing to her. Emelaide leaned against her door-frame as she forced the tears to stay in her eyes and not fall, "Go, Dimitrius... just go.." "Emelaide, please I-" Dimitrius began as he moved closer to her before Emelaide cut him off. "GO!" she screamed as a tear trickled down her face, "Just go! If you truly want me dead, then pretend I am and just go!" "No, now you listen to me. I don't want you dead, Emelaide. Never will I wish for your death. I was just angry, I didn't mean it! I said it without thinking, it just slipped out! Please, Emelaide, you have to believe me!" "I don't have to believe anything! Just go!" |
Marreck shot through the door in an instant. "I think she asked you to leave." He said, having overheard the exchange between the two. He put his arm protectively around Emelaide, glaring at Dimitrius.
Dimitrius shot a glare at Marreck, "Don't you start with me, flower boy. You're hardly surviving here as it is, do you really want me to make it worse for you?"
Emelaide simply stared at Dimitrius, "Marreck, don't. Just go, I'll be alright. I'm sorry to have woken you." |
Marreck's temper flared, causing vines to shoot up behind Dimitrius and wrapping around his waist. "My vine has a great throwing distance. Want to see?" He threatened, having the vine tighten the least bit.
Dimitrius simply smirked as an ice-storm raged around Marreck and the vines, freezing the vines completely. With the slightest flick of his finger, the vines shattered into millions of pieces, "You're in Winterglade. Nothing stays alive here with our magic."
Emelaide, still drained from her magic and her anger, whispered, "Stop.. both of you.." Standing between them, Emelaide looked at both in turn, "Marreck, Dimitrius, please. It's not worth it." |
Marreck glared at Dimitrius over top of Emelaide's head. "Wow a plant killer, I wonder how much Ariala just loves that." He spat. "Why you do us all a favor and just leave?"
Dimitrius smirked, "Apparently she doesn't mind it at all, Marreck. After all, we are engaged to be married. Besides, Emelaide's a plant killer too, does this mean you're growing to hate her as well? Tsk tsk. And after you've promised her love, 'tis a shame fall out of love so quickly. However, I'm sure Emelaide will find someone better. There are plenty of Elves dying to get Emelaide to notice them, she can do much better than remaining with you."
"The last time I checked, Emelaide doesn't go around killing plants. How does Ariala even put up with you? If she knew that you were fighting with her friends I'm sure she wouldn't be to pleased." He said, stepping past Emelaide and getting closer to Dimitrius, his eyes on fire with anger.
"Aye, but she knows I don't like you; never have, never will - simple as that. And do you honestly think that's a threat? Go ahead and tell her, I won't deny it. I'll tell her precisely how I've acted. As for Emelaide, she does kill plants, every single winter. How else do you think my magic can sustain itself? It is the magic of Emelaide's that allows me to call the snow and the ice. If it weren't for her magic lowering the temperatures so low that the water will freeze, my magic would be useless after a time because the sun would melt it away."
Emelaide stepped between the two men, placing a weak hand on each chest as she steadied herself between them, "Enough. Please, just.. enough.." Leaning into Marreck, she looked up at him, her eyes pleading as she spoke, "Please, just stop. Come inside with me, please.." Dimitrius sighed as he turned Emelaide to face him. Tilting her face up so that he could look into her eyes, he softly caressed her cheek and placed a gentle, yet tender, kiss upon the corner of her mouth before murmuring softly, "I really am sorry, Emelaide. Please forgive me." Without saying another word, Dimitrius headed off in the direction of his Aunt Lina's house. Emelaide sighed as she turned back to Marreck, her hands clinging to his shirt as she leaned against him and buried her face between her hands into his chest, "I'm sorry Marreck.. I'm sorry he took his temper out on you... and I'm sorry I woke you with our bickering.. please forgive me..." |
"Its not your fault." Marreck said, trying to control his breathing. "Let's go inside." He said ushering her inside the small cottage. His anger set his cheeks on fire, sleep was out of the question now.
"What's his problem?" He murmured more to himself. "Don't be upset, Em." He said, wrapping his arms around her. |
Emelaide sighed as she leaned into him, his familiar scent filling her lungs, "Dimitrius was angry because of me. I started a fight with him, and I hit him. He got angry and said cruel things. It was nothing but my own fault, don't think about it too much. I'll be fine, I promise.... Sit with me awhile?" she asked softly, almost hesitantly, afraid of him rejecting her.
"Of course." He said softly, his anger melting. He led her to the couch and sat beside her, wrapping his arms around her. "Better?" He smiled, nudging her temple with his nose before placing a gentle kiss on her temple.
Emelaide nodded before placing a deep, tender kiss upon his lips, "Yes, much."
Laying down on the couch, Emelaide curled up beside Marreck, placing her arm on the leg farthest away from her and resting her head upon her arm while her chest rested against his other leg. Taking his hand in hers, Emelaide wrapped his arm around her in a tight embrace, "Now I'm perfectly content, as long as you forgive me for setting Dimitrius off and allowing him to treat you as horribly as he did.. I just.. I couldn't stop him.. there was no way I could right now... I promise you though, he will regret it the moment I am better. So please... please forgive me.." |
