My rat is so pregnant with babies I think she might pop.

She's due to give birth any day now. The pregnancy was a planned one and we purchased a male specifically to get her pregnant. I can't wait until the babies come out, they're going to be all pink and wrinkly and small at first. Anyone here ever had a pregnant pet?

Kris 06-22-2009 03:21 AM

I had a pregnant cat one time. She was a bit ...special from having been hit by a car, and so she didn't know to plan somewhere secret to give birth.

Rather, she gave birth on my feet, while I was asleep.
.________.;; Fun times.

Adain-chan 06-22-2009 03:28 AM

lol wow, I bet you got one hell of a surprise in the morning. I bed you had to wash your blanket's too. Bea (my rat) is pretty well prepared. She has her nest built and everything so she's ready. She's a lot better at building one then her mother was, so we're pretty sure she's going to be a good mother.

my cat gets preggo all the time! we pretty much always have kittens in the house... my brother really needs to get her fixed. >> anyways, my mom used to raise mice! i remember seeing the pink little tiny things. aww so cute.<3 so many too! golly. can you believe making that many babies inside of you? yeesh

Neurotic Cupcake 06-22-2009 04:09 AM

I have never had a pet that was pregnant but, I have had quite a few friends that have had pregnant pets. I always get so impatient because I want to hold the babies but they're too small and the mommy will eat them o_o

Adain-chan 06-22-2009 04:10 AM

I know seriously! and we're expecting a large litter with her because she's pretty young. Her mom had eleven when she got pregnant so we're pretty sure Bea is going to have a lot too.

Cupcake Ninja 06-22-2009 04:24 AM

wow. eleven. that is a LOT. omigawsh.

what are you guys gonna do with them when they become adults?

Adain-chan 06-22-2009 04:32 AM

Well one of them died so there was only ten that survived. I'm keeping two, my sister wants to keep one. My mother wants two and the rest will probably go to my sister's friend who owns/breeds rats. We'll see when she gives birth.

Cupcake Ninja 06-22-2009 04:40 AM

i want a small animal pet.. but i have no luck with them. T>T recently, i had a beta fish.... but my mom's cat ate it!

I went through several generations of zebra finches, but birds don't do the whole 'pregnancy' thing, so I'm not sure it counts.^^ Watching a nest full of little birds grow sure was fun, though. Their little ugly babies were so cute.

A dog, and a cat. I see puppies alllll the time because I work for a dog rescue. I love working there but hate it at the same time because it is to easy to get attached to them. Wish I could keep them all! :(

Kah Hilzin-Ec 06-22-2009 11:30 AM

My puppy is pregnant ;__; She's not even a year old and she has already... *ahem* Doesn't help that she's a relatively small dog, so she looks like a sheep-shaped doggie x__x

I hope she doesn't abort and die like my dad's most favorited ever. He held a grudge against her getting pregnant [and breaking his friend's dog's penis while doing so XD] and ultimately died on his mom's death anniversary :x

I've also had a cat [well, more like kidnapped it from my cousin >.>] and while she was pregnant she would either be by the fridge [to feel the motor's heat] or lay in the middle of my room [to receive the air conditioner directly on her]. They were born on New Years 2008. Six kittens. None with yellow eyes like her mother. None with smoked fur like her mother. Five tiger-like and one black [< She cheated! Lol~]. My dad gifted all cats, including the mother, because he doesn't like furry animals inside the house and 7 of them was too much.

I miss my Pe-Leon-O ;____;

My fish got pregnant..
I bought two mollies from the store and I was told that they were both females, but maybe one of them was already pregnant when I bought her.. Anyways, she had the cutest little black molly babies I have ever seen.. So I ran to the store to see if there was anything I could hide them in so that they wouldn't eat them all.. By the time I got back, they were all gone. D:
I hate fish for that reason, always eating each other..

Edit:
Oh yeah, and the mother fishy didn't gain her weight back or whatever.. She got super skinny after having babies and died about a week later. ._____.

{{Just as a side note: I live out in the country.}}

I actually have a nonfixed male mutt. He likes to go around the neighborhood and get the ladies preggers. Thankfully, no one can pinpoint it's my dog. One time, a stray girl followed him home and she gave birth to his puppies. She was really furry, so we had no idea she was even pregnant! Unfortunately, because of wild animals, only one survived. He's kinda dumb, but adorable.

I do plan on getting my female cat pregnant. We tried putting her on a lead outside when she was in heat. Not a single tomcat! WTH? I guess my Sophie isn't hot enough stuff yet. ^^;

Adain-chan 06-22-2009 07:11 PM

We had a rat a while back who ate her babies because most of them were born dead. Then she got fat from doing that and never lost the weight. I'm hoping all Bea's babies are born live and well. We had no trouble getting the boy rat we got to be interested in her and once we gave them enough space then went at it a lot. I can't want to get home today and find out if she's given birth or not.

yeesh! what a waste ;_; she has the babies, then the babies eat gobbled up, and then she dies too! so sad!!!!

Adain-chan 06-22-2009 11:03 PM

Yeah that is pretty sad.

I've never had pregnant pets, seeing as most of them have been male, and the only two female cat's we've had were spayed.
I'm hoping my millipedes will breed at some point. The closest i've been to any pregnant animal recently, are the rats at the zoo where i work. There's been about three pregnancies since i started there, between the various rats, but most of them got eaten. There's only been one survivor from all of the litters.

Cupcake Ninja 06-24-2009 06:44 PM

you have pet millipedes?! that's pretty cool. what do they eat? what do they do? do you put them in a tank? (not full of water, im sure)

Lady Lily 06-24-2009 09:11 PM

I have a canary who is a baby from the two I borrowed from my dads friend to breed. So I had them for a while and it was soooo cute to watch all the little babies grow up! But I guess she wasn't really "pregnant" per say. The babies were all gross and bald but cute at the same time and then they REALLY adorably fluffy!!!!

Mystic 06-25-2009 03:21 PM

I raise my own feeder mice so I always have baby mice. As far as pets go, I only had puppies once and the dog was pregnant before we rescued her. I think it's irresponsible for anyone to let their pets have babies especially with animals like cats, dogs, and small pets considering how many get killed in shelters because people are too damn lazy or cheap to get their pet fixed. The only time I think it's okay for small pets is if it's for food for another animal. That way there is no finding homes for the unwanted babies.

Cupcake Ninja 06-25-2009 06:54 PM

@Mystic: Well, what if the owner who doesn't fix the animal, and plans for the pregnancy of the animal, keeps all the babies and raises them? That, or the owner has definite homes that are waiting for the babies.

skyebir 06-25-2009 11:51 PM

my grandma had a cat that got pregnant twice...i think i mightve been the cause of one of the kittens dying when it got older ;~;

I don't have a problem if the person keeps them. Problem is that too many people do that then end up having more babies. Having homes lined up for them isn't a good thing because there's animals that are already born that need a home. I just don't see any GOOD reason to have an already overpopulated pet have babies when there's thousands killed because they can't find homes.

Chire 06-26-2009 04:09 AM

Awe, baby rats.. <3

> 3<

My old bunny got pregnant once. It was sad though cause none of the babies lived. I was really sad. My bunny died like a year later and I really miss her. Soon I think I'm going to get a new baby bunny; baby animals are so cute. :3
