Smiling against his lips, Leane reached backwards and tenderly caressed the side of his neck as she kissed him. "Thank God for that," Leane whispered against his lips before setting her half-finished sketch aside and turning to sit upon her knees in front of Matt. Wrapping her arms around his neck, Leane smiled as she continued to kiss him, "I love you."
"I love you too." Matthew assured her as the bell rang overhead, causing his lips to pause as they hovered over her's. "But I think we'll have to wait til later." He sighed.
"Mmm," groaned Leane before placing one last kiss upon Matt's lips before slipping from their embrace and gathering her books up. "Well, looking on the bright side, we at least have tonight seeing as how I'm living with you for awhile," Leane said with a wink as she held her hand out for Matt's to help him up.
"Very true." Matthew smiled as he stood from their tree and picked up his book. "But for now we have to go." Matthew sighed with a small frown, putting an arm on Leane's lower back to lead her back into the building.
"Mmm, History... Sure we can't skip?" Leane teased with a laugh as she lightly bumped her hip against his, "Early lunch at the diner was my thought."
"We can't keep skipping class, Lee." Matthew laughed. "We'll never get out diplomas that way." He teased as they reached her locker and Matthew took a moment to give her lips a long kiss before leaning back against the lockers.
"Mm, that's true. But I do hate history," Leane said with a frown as she switched her large pile of books for her history book and notebook.
Taking his hand in hers after shutting her locker, Leane smiled and placed a light kiss upon his lips, "So, how long do you think it'll take for me to space out today?" |
"Only a few minutes I'm sure." Matthew smiled as he walked to his own locker and switched his books before winding an arm around Leane's waist. "But I'll let you have my notes if you need them." Matthew offered as they neared the classroom.
Leane smiled as she snuck a long kiss from his lips and whispered teasingly, "Don't tell me that, my darling Matt. For if you do, I'll truly sleep through my classes and rely on you for notes." Laughing with a wink, Leane gave his hand a gentle squeeze as she led them into the classroom and to their usual seats.
"Well its that or you fail and don't get to graduate with us." Matthew teased, knowing well enough that Leane was more than capable to pass high school without his help. "But for now, try to pay attention." He teased as he kissed her cheek before going to the back of the room in his regular seat.
Flashing a smile over her shoulder, Leane laughed softly before turning back to the front of the room as the teacher began today's lesson.
Matthew offered a smile at his girlfriend before settling back in his chair and opening his notebook, copying down the lesson as the time ticked by. It seemed like class was never going to end and Matthew felt his muscles as he heard a few stray whispers around him. Leane's name whizzed back in forth mingling with the rumor of her maybe-pregnancy and Matthew twisted his hand into a fist. He shouldn't have done this to her, he should've said no. He should've left her alone and let her love someone who was better for her. When the bell rang, Matthew's mood had fallen some anger to a semi-awake depression as he lifted his books and stood from his chair.
Oblivious to the gossip in the back of the room, Leane stood from her desk after finishing the notes on the board, having went off in a daze in the middle and fallen slightly behind. Picking up her things, Leane smiled as she turned towards Matt and waited for him to reach her desk. "Be proud my love, I paid attention."
"Good job." Matthew offered with what was an attempted smile but ended up as a frown in the end. "Come on." He urged as he noted a couple of students looking at them and steered Leane out the door. "Maybe you were right about this skipping thing." Matthew said as he opened his locker and put his books inside. "Let's just go somewhere that's not here." He urged, his fight-or-flight sense kicking into gear.
Frowning, Leane put her books into Matt's open locker before wrapping her arms around his waist. "What happened?" Leane asked softly as she looked up into her boyfriend's eyes, sensing the kind of mood he was in. The only time he ever wanted to skip was when he felt like he was going to get into a fight. But she was just with him in History and nothing was wrong... So what had happened in such a short amount of time?
"Just a really boring History lesson." Matthew said though his joke was humorless even to him as he shut his locker and took Leane's hands, leading her towards the upstairs where the group's small attic was held. "We don't have to leave the building." He said, attempting a compromise. "I just don't want to go to class right now." He said softly as he wound Leane through the halls.
Leane nodded as she followed him up to the attic, not bothering to mention she was hungry and it was lunch this period. Pushing the thoughts aside, Leane focused on what was at hand - and that was what was wrong with Matt. Waiting until they reached the attic and the door was shut behind them, Leane looked up at Matt and asked softly, "What happened.." Trying to find the answer in his eyes, Leane searched them - worry apparent in her eyes. "Something must have happened during class, but I don't know what could have because it seemed like any other class to me. Did someone say something to you?"
Matthew turned away from Leane and sat in one of the beanbag chairs, burying his face in his hands. Leane wasn't good enough for him. And he knew she would hate to hear him say such a thing but he should've been smarter about this. He should've been safe with her. He should've been better for her. "I just don't want to be here, Lee." Matthew sighed as all the things he wanted to say didn't make it past his lips.
Wrapping her arms around her waist, Leane shifted to resting her weight onto her left leg as she looked over at Matt, trying to read his thoughts. "Fine. We'll go. My parents aren't home and Josh is at work, we'll go to my house for awhile unless you're parent's aren't home. Come on," Leane said with a warm smile as she held out her hand for his, knowing the word 'here' had two meanings, but deciding to ignore the second meaning for right now and to just go with the literal meaning.
Matthew nodded numbly as he took her hand and led Leane out of school and to her car. "I'll see you at your place." He said softly as he rested his forehead on her's, his eyes closed, before giving her cheek a quick kiss and walking towards his own car and sliding into the driver's seat.
Sighing, Leane went to her car after texting Jenny, Joanna, and Ben that they were leaving and something was wrong. Turning her phone off, Leane pulled out of the parking lot and headed off to the diner to pick up their favorite foods from there for lunch, causing her to arrive some time after Matt had.
Matthew ran a hand through his hair as he waited for Leane in her driveway, his frown deepening. He should'nthave let those rumors get to him because now he was going to have to confess to Leane why he was upset. Which would lead to him telling her about why he was so tense around Keith. Which-of course-would lead to her being upset that he was thinking such thoughts. Though Matthew did have a humorless smile at the irony that him wanting to make Leane happier was actually going to cause her to be upset. Then his smile disappeared when he realized that Leane was going to be upset in the end. It was going to be a long afternoon.
Pulling in beside Matt, Leane grabbed the foot and left everything else in the car. Walking over to Matt, Leane said with a smile as she held up the small bag of food, "I brought lunch! You hungry?"
"Sure." Matthew said as he took Leane's hand and led her into her house and towards the kitchen where he leaned back against a counter. In turth Matthew didn't want to hold up the dark and brooding vibe but he couldn't seem to find the words or energy to pretend otherwise so instead he leaned up against the counter in silence.
Leane simply continued to force her smile as she got out the two burgers and fries from the bag and set them on the island counter. Going to the fridge, Leane inquired softly as she looked over the fridge and got out a Snapple tea for herself, "What would you like to drink love?"
