Leane blushed as she looked town at her sketchbook. Awkwardly picking at the cover, Leane avoided eye contact with Matt, "Th-thank you. It's the only way I can relieve stress and escape all the gazing eyes. Not to mention all of the clones hanging on my every word or, as you so kindly put it, 'Get into my pants'."
Looking up at him, Lean blushed deeper, "And all joking aside, why did you ask me to the Ball? And do you really wish to dance with me? I mean, why? I'm definitely not complaining, I just.. I don't understand you! And that fact alone is confusing me and making me wonder why I've started falling fo-" Leane shut her mouth once more as she blushed a deep scarlet and quickly set about placing the sketches back into her book. |
Matthew fought hard to keep a smile off his face as he answered her. "I've already told you that I found you interesting, that's why I want to go to the Ball with you. And just who exactly are you falling for?" He asked. "I know its none of my business but I'm kind of curious of why you continue to stop talking as soon as you're about to say the name. Its been twice now. Who's the lucky guy?"

Leane, still avoiding eye contact, stammered softly, the blush still vibrant in her cheeks, "N-never mind that.. You'd fi-find it stupid and c-completely irrational. I mean, th-the guy wouldn't have any i-interest in me, so it's p-pointless to even talk about... A-and besides.. why do you c-care who it is?"

"Curiousity." Matthew shrugged. "You'd be crazy to think that a guy wouldn't like you. You're being silly." He said before the bell rang. "That's my cue." He said, bowing his head before heading off to his locker to grab his physics books.

Catching up with him, Leane murmured softly, "If my sanity is in question, I'm quite sane. For the man in question is you. And since you obviously do not like me, I'm not crazy for believing that you don't."
Quickening her pace, Leane headed to her locker and put her art things away, replacing them with her Chemistry Notebook and Textbook. |
Matthew blinked in confusion at Leane's confession. What had happened to the Leane who had called him a vile cretin and told him that she'd never fall for him? Matthew wasn't one for admitting his feelings though he had to admit that he was starting to fall for Leane as well. He'd thought that he had made some of his feelings clear but Leane obviously had never caught on. Oh, well... He shrugged. I still have the Ball to tell her how I feel...

Leane sighed as she plopped into her seat in Chemistry. Seeing as how she was a bit early, Leane watched the door in hopes of seeing Ben - her previous interaction with Matt still on her brain. Why had she confessed to him? Why had she told him? Surely he thought her even more an idiot that he did before. Not to mention now he thought she were foolish and delusional for falling for him when it's so obvious he didn't like her in return.
"At least it's Friday," she whispered softly to herself, "I only have tomorrow to go through then we can go our separate ways.." |
Ben walked into the Chemistry room, noting Leane's facial expression, he walked to sit beside her. "Now either you had a really bad class last period or we have a pop quiz this period in which case you should be studying not sulking." He teased before leaning forward. "What's wrong?" He asked, his voice becoming serious.

Forcing a smile and a laugh, Leane replied, "No pop quiz, and not a bad class. More like an idiot confession to the vile cretin. He knows, Ben.. and I'm an idiot for telling him. It just kind of.. slipped, a couple of times.. I thought I'd caught myself in time and covered my tracks.. Apparently I'm as bad as you said at doing so, for I ended up telling him in the end.."

"I wouldn't consider that a bad idea." Ben shrugged. "Do you think that if you had never told Matthew that you liked him that he would ever tell you his feelings in return?" He questioned, not waiting for an answer. "You've tried to run us over, called him a vile cretin, and fought with him in English for no reason. He'd never come clean if you hadn't. Matthew's not really one to tell people hoe he feels. How do you think he never told Gena how he felt about her? If there's any doubt in his mind he'll just keep his mouth shut."

Leane became quite agitated at the mention of Gena, "She's the very reason I should never have told him! It's so obvious he still yearns for her.. If he suddenly claimed he liked me in return, I'd obviously be a rebound from that miserable creature. I don't want to be a rebound.. He never liked me before yesterday, so what makes him suddenly like me if he does? Obviously he just wants to get back at Gena, so he'll claim to like me, try and flaunt me to piss Gena off, then once Gena comes crawling to him, he'll ditch me and go for her. I'm not going to be played like that.."

"Ah Leane, Leane." Ben said, exactly what he had said when he had enter Matthew's name in the contest. "Jealousy doesn't look very good onyou." He teased lightly before becoming serious. "Matthew would never use anyone. I'm surprised at why you'd even like him if he thought he was capable of doing that. He's not such a bad guy." He shrugged. "And what makes you think that Matthew never liked you until yesterday? I just told you that he doesn't like to admit his feelings. Do you think he'd really let you know that he's falling for you if he believed that you didn't like him?" He asked. "He's not a big fan of rejection."

Leane sighed, "I know he'd never do that to me.. I just... it's better to make myself believe that we're not a good match when I know very well he can never care for me like I hope. Besides, how could he have been starting to like me before yesterday? He told me himself he never payed any attention to me until the contest when he was forced to.. What makes you believe he was falling for me at the same time he was falling for Gena? I mean, Gena and I are polar opposites! How could he possibly like such two contrasting people at the same time?"

"Maybe she's not such a bad person either." Ben offered. "Gena is one of good friends and she wouldn't be if she was what you make her out to be. Besides, who am I to know what goes on in Matthew's head? He's very secretive when it comes to girls. Maybe you should ask him how he feels. He probably as more insight then I do."

Leane sighed, "I've already made a fool of myself.. I don't need to make a bigger one by inquiring after his feeling when surely there are none.. I mean, if there are.. surely they're just there because he can't have Gena and he now knows that he could have me if he merely asked.."
As the bell rang and class began, Leane added softly, "And I still don't like her." |
Ben laughed at Leane's comment. "You know, if both of you are to scared to actually talk to each other you're not going to get very far. Now you have two choices." He whispered. "You can take a risk and be with Matt or you can wonder what would've happened if you had." He said before straightening in his seat and starting to take notes on the day's lecture.

Not being able to concentrate, Leane massaged her temples as she doodles in her notebook. Sighing, Leane pondered Ben's words.. Should she go for it? Why was she so hesitant to begin with? I mean, the Leane Supton everyone knows and loves is never hesitant and always goes for what she wants.. What was stopping her now? Was it because she actually liked Matt and didn't think of him as just another boy in the school?
Sighing, Leane wondered what she should do as the class dragged on.. One option is to just walk up and kiss up and see how he reacts, she mused to herself as the class slowly came to an end. "But if he doesn't like me, my first kiss would have been a kiss of rejection.." accidentally whispered allowed as she picked up her books. |
"Ooh, kisses." Ben said. "Now that listening to that idea would've been more fun to listen to then the lecture." He teased, piling his books into his arms. "Too bad you didn't pay attention though. We have a pop quiz tomorrow." He winked, walking out of the Chemistry room and hurrying to his locker.

Leane blushed as she rushed after Ben, "Ben if you tell a single soul I'll kill you! A-and who said it had anything to do with Matt anyway?"
Registering the pop-quiz comment, Leane groaned and leaned against the closed locker beside Ben's, "And this is all your fault anyway. You signed him up for the contest! The least you could do is give me your notes to copy so I can at least try and pass this course.." |
"Now we had just had a conversation about your crush on Matt and then you mention kissing and its not him? You're a horrible liar." He laughed. "And I would give you my notes but it'd be kind of pointless considering I just made up the quiz to see if you would believe me. You're very gullible, you know that?" He winked.
"But I fail to see how this my fault. I only signed him up for fun, I didn't make you two start to fall for each other." |
Leane rolled her eyes as she punched Ben in the arm, "You're absolutely vile! And maybe I was thinking about Kenny! For all you know I'm crushing on him!" Leane couldn't help but laugh after she spoke, even though she did try to keep a straight face, "You're right, I really am a bad liar!"
Resting her head back against the locker, Leane shut her eyes, "You know what? I really should thank you, not blame you. If you hadn't signed him up, I wouldn't have actually started to think about him and realized I actually have liked him.. since summer really.. I just.. I didn't want to like him.. I knew how much he was in love with Gena, and there's no way I can compete with a childhood love - not to mention the fact that Matt nearly hates my guts.. But hey, he did ask me to the Ball right? He must like me to some degree.. I just.. I don't think I can face him now that he knows I like him.. I.. I feel like such an idiot.. I mean, he still likes Gena.. He'd never even consider trying to like me.." |
"Of course he still likes Gena. He's liked her for years so its about time she got a little competition. Matthew knows what he likes and he likes you. I think you should stop worrying and just go for it." Ben suggested. "Its about the only thing you can do. I think the real problem here is what all of your groupies are going to think of you dating Matt. If you think the football team is going to settle with someone like Matt being with you, you need a reality check. They didn't give us all bruises because we're best friends."

Leane's eyes grew wide at Ben's statement, "Y-you're right.. I-I can't do that to him.. Now that you mention it, I'm surprised they haven't gone after him because of the Ball! I wasn't even thinking about all of them when I thought about Matt.. I didn't even consider.."
Massaging her temple, Leane sighed, "As for my groupies, as you so wretchedly put them, I don't care what they think when it comes to my life. I like what I like, I like who I like, and I date who I want to date.. I just.. You're right.. There's no way in hell everyone is going to accept Matt as my boyfriend without roughing him up and seeing what he can take.. They'll ruin him.. I can't let them do that.. I.. It's best if he just sticks with Gena.. At least if he likes her, he won't get hurt.. After the Ball, we'll just go our separate ways and I'll start dating some football player or something..." Sighing, Leane stepped away from the locker, "Ben, you're a real downer, ya know that? I definitely could have went on believing it were possible.. But of course, you had to ruin everything.. And you're right, it's crazy for me to think I could even have a prayer in dating him. Best to just put everything to quits now before I fall even more, right?" Walking away, Leane headed to her locker and put her books away. Taking her apron out of her locker, Leane began putting it on, fumbling with the ties in the back, as she headed down the hall towards her Home Economics class - today they were baking cookies. Leane was thankful her last class of the day was cooking - she'd be able to absorb herself into making the dough and focus on not burning them. |
Gena entered the cooking class, her eyes glaring as they settled on Leane. Pulling her apron over her jeans and sweatshirt, Gena made her way to the table where Leane stood. She began putting ingredients into her bowl at the teacher's instructions, not bothering to acknowledge Leane's presence. She began to kneed the cookie dough with her hands, punching and pulling at the dough, pretending that it was Leane in the bowl instead of the dough.

Leane groaned as she mixed her dough. 'Why did she have to come over here'
Placing her dough into balls on the cookie sheet, having preset the oven before starting on her dough, Leane ignored Gena and her aggressiveness towards the dough. If she was going to get so worked up over being near Leane, she shouldn't have came to her table. |
