Gawz Drawings

I'm a less than impressive artist who's been at it for years. I started being really dedicated to art around 5 or 6 years ago, and I've never looked back since. I know I'm really, really bad, but I'm ten billion times better than what I was. (Not to mention that Realistic Rendering class at the KCAI really helped. >> Not that I ever draw realistically.) So I thought: Gee? Why not show it off!
Even though it may or may not blind you.
(I'm gonna link all these through paranoia the staff will get mad at me if they're too big. ._. )

One of my favorite pictures ever and an experiment in art styles, Ellie:

My uselessly adorable chibi, Apollo:

Brutus, from my comic, Psychopathic:

(You may notice Brutus is very tall and very skinny. First off, he's the gatekeeper, so he's gotta be tall. Second off, everybody in psychopathic is done strictly in black, white & red with a unique style and they're incredibly tall/skinny. It's the art style done for the comic.)

This is the picture I drew of a screamer, an imaginary race I invented for my fantasy story:

(I'm not used to drawing animals, so be happy you got something only as bad as that. x.o )

My attempt at drawing like Dave Hopkins (Author of Jack):

And last but not least, a slightly more realistic picture I drew entitled "The Ugly Wench":
http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs46/f/20...lySpecific.jpg
(This was done in ten minutes. With a pen. After I had NO SLEEP that night.
That's my proof that if I wanted to, I could probably be a good artist. Instead, I churn out these pieces of crud because working on something for more than two hours makes me crazy.)

Comments?
I'd love to hear how you feel I could improve in my artwork! n_n

I think first and foremost, you need to work on human anatomy. Learn the rules of it, memorize the measurements... Google for 'Andrew Loomis'. He was a great illustrator of his own time and his 'How to' books still help out beginner artists all around the world. You can download those easily in PDF.

Can't really say much about the themes, because they're so totally not my cup of tea... ^^;

I actually have quite a wide range of drawings. I'd show them all, but I'm worried I'd take up too much room and nobody would bother to look. Dx

As for the anatomy, I do need to work on it, but it's not quite as bad as the pictures shown would leave you to think. Each and every one of them was done in a style specifically offset from realistic anatomy. Maybe I'll draw you up one of my less "this could never show up in real life" doodles!

Yes, you do need to work on the anatomy a bit. In all of the pictures, they vary a lot.

Okay, the first picture; it looks kind of cute, actually. I like this one a lot, however, you should work on keeping your lines smooth. Also, the neck is rather skinny.

Second picture; Adorable! I even went "aww" when I took a look at this. Be careful in how you layer your eyes, they're crooked and not in the right angle. You should also try to add shading and highlights to it too.

Third Picture: I really like the design, if I saw a person like that I would be running for my covers. But he looks very slanted. Like I said for the last picture, be careful of how you angle your characters. If you keep having trouble, try using a ruler.

Fourth Picture; o.o That's a funky looking monster you got there. Perhaps make it look skinnier and expose the ribs. And maybe throw a couple of scars, to show it has been in battle but never lost. (You don't have too, it's your creature, not mine). Buit shading and highlights would be great too, but also the teeth might need to be smoothed out. And also smooth out the face (especially where the nose is). I have to say, you did a pretty good job at animal anatomy.

Fifth Picture: Pretty good, all I have to say is try adding shades to the clothing and fur.

Sixth and final picture: Now I know humanism is a very difficult thing to draw for anyone and this is a pretty good attempt. The face looks too rounded, try to slim it down a bit. You should had exposed more of the nose (I know drawing noses is tricky). The eyes don't look alined, one of them is a little far up to the forehead than the other. What I suggest is to look at female faces to get the proportions down.

Hope any of this helps (also longest critique I made so far today XD)

I like your ideas, especially the 3rd one, think it's quite funny but still pretty cool ^^
Yes, you need to learn all that anatomy-stuff and coloring, but I think it's worth giving it a try...
The last one is ugly indeed X3 It reminds me of horror mangas

they're okay, but you need work.
Anatomy definitely, and in the last one, the mouth is way too small.
don't draw on lined paper.
your figures are a little slanted too, work on keeping them straight, or in a pose.
you've got a good start though.
