Video Game Soundtracks
This is a thread for discussing video game music. As it is a discussion of the music and not the games, it goes here.
Rhapsody is first because it's a musical game, and a great one, but the DS remake they took a lot out, including several songs. NiGHTS into dreams was great. The sequel had some good songs, but not as good as the first one. Paper Mario had amazing music too. I loved so many songs from it, especially the very end music while they watch the fireworks. Super Mario 64 was awesome too Super Mario World and SMB3 have such classic songs on there. Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story had wonderful music, the best were the end themes. Ocarina of Time had good music too. Lessee, Also the original Disgaea had some good songs. And Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, and Lost Kingdoms, though not so much 2. Dark Cloud 2, Sonic and the Black Night, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure, Pikmin, Kirby Superstar, Bomberman 64, Dr. Mario, Tail Concerto, Super Mario RPG, -- Discuss: Favorite video game sountracks/songs. Feel free to agree or disagree with some of the ones i listed. |
I love Zelda music!
I have a ton of it on my iPod. Ocarina of Time is my favorite soundtrack, but Majora's Mask had some great stuff too. Like Clock Town <3 Yoshi's Story has possibly the cutest end theme ever. It makes me smile every time I hear it. I should really download the full soundtrack, since I only have the end theme x3 Donkey Kong Country/DKC2 have some great stuff too. Jungle Japes is undeniably catchy. Also, Metroid Prime had some really epic stuff... MP3 had good stuff too, but I haven't downloaded it yet. I love the theme on the title screen, too. Yes, I am an extreme nerd. |
My favorite, hands down, are the Silent Hill soundtracks. I'm honestly even listening to them right now. I hate to sound like some sort of raving fanboy, but the work that Yamaoka Akira does for the series in superb. Ambient and industrial. Moody and melodic. Ranging from the touching to the sinister to the downright creepy. It's great.
And I love the contributions from Mary McGlynn and Joe Romersa. They both have killer voices. |
I would say that my favorite Akira Yamaoka works are the tracks from Silent Hill 4.
It's so good it makes me wish I could actually play Silent Hill without chickening out, though the soundtracks will have to do. >_< |
I adore Legend of Zelda soundtracks, of course.
But I also have a strange attraction to the very short song list of Team Fortress 2. XD That, and I also absolutely love the Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl and Halo 1/2/3 soundtracks. I also forgot to add my most recent addition to my soundtrack collection: Blue Dragon! :D |
I love the Tomb Raider music, they're all so pretty.
I downloaded some of them including Legends, AoD, and the first origional one. Can't seem to get enough of the music. |
I think some of my favorite video game OSTs have to be from the following games:
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3, decent score, rather memorable and still nostalgic Valkyrie Profile 2, it has some pretty epic tracks in it and the music for town and the field is pleasant to listen to as well Drag-on Dragoon 1 and 2 [aka Drakenguard 1 and 2], the scores were pretty good, the first one was a little grating on the senses but still decent, the second one was a whole lot better though Earthworm Jim, possibly one of the more amusing OSTs I've ever heard, I can still pretty much pick out each level by track |
my favorite sound track i think would be from a game called jet set radio future some of the music on there is really cool
|
I just recently download a whole lot of video game music. ;D It's great, I listened to it, like, all day today. My favourites are Tetris, Zelda, Sonic, and Mario. BECAUSE THEY ARE SO FUN. D: NES games FTW D<

I don't really listen to videogame music, even though I love a lot of games. xD;;
But I really do like remixed and rearranged soundtracks. The Suikoden series had a bunch of celtic music and vocal albums (which were rearranged versions of the bgm in the games). There was also a very good rearranged Ocarina of Time album. My friend had it and I listed to it a few times--it was really good and I still remember it after all these years. But I think my favorite is the rearranged Xenogears vocal album, Creid. Has anyone else heard this one? |

My boyfriend discovered Cibo Matto while playing Jet Set Radio Future (I think e_e). But yeah, I ended up liking Cibo Matto a lot too. |
I have a lot of video game music on my iPod.
Tekken 3 Tekken 5 Killer Instinct (the one on SNES) Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Kingdom Hearts Just to name a few. ^__^ |
I'm in love with the soundtrack in the Mother series. <3

I like most music from the Zelda games, namely the tunes from Ocarina of Time. Mario games usually have good music, too, especially the music from the older games in their 8-bit glory. I like it when a game has good music, but if it doesn't, that doesn't mean I won't still play it. Music just brings a whole lot more to the game.
I also really, really loved the music in Golden Sun. The theme for the Elemental Stars is so beautiful. Sometimes I'd just let my Gameboy Advance sit next to me while Isaac stood in the Stars room so I could listen to it. The music in the Megaman Battle Network series is good, too. I really like the opening music, it gets me pumped up. The Kingdom Hearts games have great music, too. |
All Final Fantasy sound tracks (except for the handhelds) are pretty amazing. Especially anything with Sephiroth in them. xD; Kingdom Hearts isn't bad, and Zelda is good too. Oh, and Eternal Sonata is a music based RPG, so it has some good ones too. :]

Oo! Game music! Let's see, here's the SHORT list of soundtracks I like:
Silent Hill (all) Rule of Rose Ace Attorney series Obscure 2: The Aftermath (probably the most beautiful) Devil May Cry 3 The Path (an indie game, second only to Rule of Rose and Obscure 2) I'm a sucker for rock, catchy themes, and haunting melodies. |
My all time favorite video game track is Luigi's Mansion Theme. Too bad I haven't been able to find it for download. :( But I have a ton of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask tracks, I even have two from Wind Waker. xD Castlevania has some pretty beast tracks, and so does Devil May Cry 3 (The fighting music sounds like Powerman5000. Which is awesome.) Donkey Kong (all of them) have some awesome tracks, and Kingdom Hearts and....I just relized how many games I've already listed and don't want to seem like an even bigger nerd. >.> |
Kingdom Hearts' music is good. I like "Simple and Clean" and "Sanctuary", but the instrumentals are great as well!
I'm currently obsessed with the ending theme to the game "Portal", called "Still Alive". :3 |

You kinda make me wanna play again. |
A lot of the Final Fantasy music is great. My favorite theme ever is quite possibly "The Extreme" from Final Fantasy VIII.
(Final Fantasy music is really good when it has lyrics. ;D) But my ultimate favorite for music is from the Xenosaga Series/Trilogy. There's just something about it that makes it give off this vibe of awesomeness. |
I can't help it...
I just played my old Spyro: Year of the Dragon, and I found that the music in that game is genius X3 Even though they just repeat over and over |
The Silent Hill soundtrack was fantastic. 4 in particular. |
I am a huge dork, so I horde every single Tales of music thing ever made. Drama cds, singles, soundtrack, whatever. And I do love to listen to them. I also listen to Kingdom Hearts soundtracks.
|
The LoZ songs always get stuck in my head but they are nice.
Has anyone played Godhand? The ending theme is the greatest/funniest song in a game I've ever heard lol. I love the Shadow Hearts music especially Ladder to Heaven is SH2. Koudelka's music was nice aswell. The new music in Tekken 6 really stepped it up, I love the Electric Fountain stage song, it makes me wanna dance :P Devil May Cry has some nice tunes, I like the Lock & Load remix song in DMC4 Quote:

Umineko no Naku Koro Ni has some really nice music. I really wish I could download them, but they are impossible to find. The games don't even come out in America either. Niether do the soundtracks. Sucks for me... but I listen to them on Youtube. Someday I'll get that ripping music off Youtube thing... :sarcasm: Oh, and I can't forget Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. OST Nageki no Mori is LOVE ~
I have the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack CD's but I don't listen to them as much as I use to... some tracks are good still. Simple and Clean is nice. =w= Random... Pokemon D/P/P Route 212 and Sunyshore City music... ^___^ |
