Dungeons & Dragons, any interest?
Update: This attempt at a campaign has been put on hold for the time being- feel free to use this thread to attempt to start your own campaign.
________________________________________________ I was deliberating starting up a 3.5 homebrew Dungeons & Dragons play by post. Is anyone interested? If you're not familiar with D&D, that's fine, I'm going to keep things as non-technical as I can, and I'm used to easing new players into the system. If you are interested, please feel free to give your opinion on any sort of themes you would like- or would not like- to play with: IE, dungeon-crawling heavy, lots of large battles, lots of politics, etc. Also, please note if you are more interested in a low-magic/fantasy or high-magic/fantasy setting, or if it doesn't matter to you (IE, how much do you want to see in the way of magical creatures/spellcasting in the setting). |
I would be interested in doing anything your doing, I've only done a very basic little bit of D&D style though so you'll need to be patient with me xP
Hmm, sounds interesting. I'd join as long as my celtic characters could be used.
And is this thread in the right part of the forum? ._. |
That would be fun. I do a lot of heavy Dungeon Mastering for a large group where I live, so being able to be a player for once would be great!
Strictly out of curiosity, would it be loose, RP style, or would it stick to the rulebook(s)? |
Waa ha ha ha ha! I'm in. I DM and play so I'm familiar with the rules, but how would we incorporate dice rolling if at all?
It does sound interesting, like Iori i run a shadowrun game so any chance i get to be a player instead of the story teller is nice.
I'm interested in joining if you wouldn't mind. I'm up for anything you are though I haven't played much since my friends couldn't keep a game going long.
We could trust the person running it for dice-rolling. :D It would slow things down a bit, but hey. Alternately, we could all roll our own stuff, but that requires the players to man (or woman) up and not cheat. It takes the fun out of it.
The biggest problem is making and keeping track of character sheets. It would be awkward unless we came up with something pretty good. |
OOH, D&D! I'll play for sure, I've been trying to convince my dad to start a game with me for a while. He won't listen. I've only played v2, but I'll figure it out. Probably borrow a 3.5 book from one of my dad's friends...
for char. sheets: I have blanks that should be openable with the XP version of Excel, Quattro Pro, and MAYBE Open Office. MS Office Excel doesn't work, though, but as long as Darkeyes has one of those, it shouldn't be hard to keep track of them. and if that fails, I can scan them and send as pics :D EDIT: missed this: Quote:

No problem with actually having your own character sheet, but I meant with the DM and the player both having fully updated versions of the character sheets. Even in person in can be easy to have mix-ups with player capabilities with the DM.
Although if there was a separate thread for character sheets that the players could just edit whenever they need to would solve that issue, come to think of it. |
It exists, it's the ooc thread, where this should be really.
Iori: yeah, that's probably the best idea, although it might be a little confusing, considering the total amount of stuff you pile into a D&D character.
Firemare: lol true, I think Darkeyes misplaced the thread xD |
I'm cool with that though, I have no reason to go into the OOC thread catagory so I wouldn't have seen this otherwise. I think that really it should have been put into the listing of rps, but this is fine because I'm sure a mod will move us.
Dealing with the overpowering amount of information in a character sheet can be dealt with relatively easily. A template can be made and people can just fill-in-the-blank. Formatted correctly, a character sheet isn't too complicated unless you make it that way (aka: don't try to have all the bonuses and stuff already added up, otherwise you take up way too much space. ex: just write skill ranks and not add ability bonuses, etc, into the sheet, thus saving space. Just means you have to think a little bit when doing stuff *shrug*).
but what about the item placements?
Item Placements? As in inventory and gear, or am I missing something?
This thread belongs in the OOC Topic Forum and will be moved shortly. :)
Woot! Called it. Did Darkeyes abandon us?
^I hope not...

A simple list will be good enough for casual use. Forum RP will be slower paced that real-life RP, meaning we have time to look stuff up.
Ex. sheet (spellcasters just add a spells section below the main part with each spell labeled for it's spell level. [ghost sound-3]) Name: Iori Vytenson Race: Elf Class: fighter 3 Alignment: lawful good HP: blah HD: blah AC: blah Speed: 30ft STR-[10] Dex-[10] Con-[10] Int-[10] Wis-[10] Cha-[10] Skills: blah-3 blah-3 blah-4 blah-2 Feats and class features: blah, blah, blah, knowledge(blah), blah, blah, sneak attack [+3d6], blahblah, blah, evasion, blah, blah, improved precise shot, blah blah Money: 217 GP, 30 SP, 12 CP Gear: Longsword(sheathed on waist), scalemail armor(worn), buckler(worn), longbow(slung on back), quiver w/20 arrows (worn), 3xtorch, backpack, bedroll, flint and steel, shadow cloak(worn), concealed blade [forearm](worn), blah, blah, blah(worn), blah. Other: blahblahblah, blahblah, blah. Physical description: blah blah blah, blah blah, blah. Blah blah blahblahblah, blah. |
Ok, that works, with a few minor adjustments xD
It would make a decent skeleton, and the DM and players could edit it for ease of use as they saw fit, as long as it was legible and organized.
If Darkeyes doesn't come back, we should start it ourselves.
I will. I almost did earlier today. :)
kk :D I wonder where he's been... *goes to lurk profile* xD
