Another Gaian Explorer

Hi, my name is Mac, and I am of course yet another Gaian exploring the realm of Menewsha. On Gaia my username is Lucius Scipio Malfoy, and I am a professional writer and amateur artist, so I may start an art shop here when I become more comfortable with the differences between sites.

I'm 27 years old - 28 at the end of the month! - and live in Iowa, USA. It's not as bad as it sounds. As you might guess, I'm a tremendous Harry Potter fan, focus specifically on the darker side of that fandom [evil sneer], and thankfully for me Lucius Malfoy is played in the movies by the best (and most attractive) character actor ever, Jason Isaacs.

Oh no! I just realized - I'm a naked Malfoy! :o

Little Miss 08-02-2009 05:05 AM

Aloha gaian! I'm Artie XD Welcome to menewsha! It's pretty much the same thing as gaia but...different. Have fun!

Rusalka 08-02-2009 05:06 AM

-Chuckles- The evil side of HP is always the most fun yes?
I do enjoy Severus Snape myself, even if he's on the fence for the entirety of books and movies. His personality is more evil than good anyhow.. despite all his good actions. Lucius is always my second fave followed shortly by his son Draco.

Ah.. I'm getting ahead of myself. Welcome to Menewsha!! Seems like you'll fit right in!!
I do hope you enjoy yourself here. :)

CK 08-02-2009 05:07 AM

Oh my - a naked Malfoy! Better not say that too loudly or you'll be swarmed. XD

I'm 28, soon to be 29 (on Monday >_>; ) so we're around the same age. :3 I don't know if I can call myself a professional writer just yet (though I do have my writings published here on Menewsha, it's not quite the same thing) and I'd also call myself an amateur artist. :3 And I like Harry Potter! So, yes - lots in common. :3

Welcome to Menewsha. XD

Lady Lucius 08-02-2009 05:11 AM

I wish I could say I were a professional fiction writer, but unfortunately I cannot. I write articles for historical/archeological publications, usually of the local university variety. Ah well, I'm working on that. :)

Moves fast here, doesn't it? Great! I think I'm going to like it here. :D

Little Miss 08-02-2009 05:15 AM

I write fantasy, and since I can't do any other job besides working at an ice cream store, I think i'll be an author :D

Lady Lucius 08-02-2009 05:19 AM

Go for it! Fantasy is my gig, too, where fiction is concerned. I'm especially fond of dragons and am currently working on a novel set in a pre-industrial revolution world where dragons are common. My main character is fabulous, but I'm afraid my plot needs a good deal of work. [gonks self on forehead]

Little Miss 08-02-2009 05:21 AM

I have a pretty good idea for a book I want to write, but i can't get off my lazy butt to actually write it XD oh curses to my laziness

Lady Lucius 08-02-2009 05:24 AM

I know that problem very well. Writing can be unbelievably painful and there are plenty of times I wish I had a less frustrating hobby and profession. Nonfiction is easier, though, thank goodness, or I'd starve to death.

Little Miss 08-02-2009 05:29 AM

Well, if you did starve you could go to your nearest homeless-food and shelter-thing...Or maybe you should just stick with writing a book and hope to become famous XD That's what i'll try, if it doesn't work: soup kitchen and selling art on the street

Lady Lucius 08-02-2009 05:39 AM

lol, good idea. Except I'm in a rather small town where selling art on the street probably wouldn't go over too well, and I think the soup kitchen closed down. Still have the WIC facility, though. :D

Little Miss 08-02-2009 05:43 AM

Yes, always a good backup plan. Alright, it's 11:00 PM for me I have to go to some festival tomorrow. Sleep sleep time!

Lady Lucius 08-02-2009 05:50 AM

Good night. Nice to meet you! :D

CK 08-02-2009 06:13 AM

Oh ho! History and archeology are really fascinating too, though! Sometimes it's as interesting to read as fiction. :3 Just with fewer elves and dragons. XD

iAm 08-02-2009 06:51 AM

Hello, I am a fellow gaian entrepreneur and n00b extraordinaire (I joined a couple hours ago). I have a few accounts on Gaia, but my main would have to be Smexual-Sin. I stumbled upon Menewsha through a link on tektek in my ferver to satisfy my all-consuming (nearly constant) desire to create a "decent" avatar, and subsequently fell in love with their avatars.
*Bows* And so, from today on, I will be in your care. I am still inexperienced, but please take care of me~

Lady Lucius 08-02-2009 07:14 AM

@ CK: I find my work quite fascinating, though sometimes I think it sucks the fantasy out of me. I recently finished about three months' worth of research into the kingdom of Dacia, which was completely destroyed by the Roman empire. There isn't much left of it except a few walls of the capitol city, Sarmesagetusa (SAR-me-sa-ge-TOO-sa), up in the mountains of Romania. I would LOVE to see them. :o

Luzzy 08-02-2009 07:21 AM

Ello there, fellow Gaian!! :'D
I'm Luz is a Dorkus on Gaia, Luzzy here. x]
My friend is obsessed with Lucius... I prefer Draco but he's closer to my age anyways... so.... x]

When the Harry Potter movies came out and I started crushing on Tom, I decided i would look up character names and their meanings, pronunciations, etymology, etc. Lucius means light, which is what Luz means, but in Spanish. I always found that kinda cute. I rub it in my friends' faces every now and then: "I'M RELATED TO THE MALFOYS YOU GUYYYS!!" x]

CK 08-02-2009 07:27 AM

I think that sounds really awesome. XD Is your work on the kingdom of Dacia published yet or do you know where it might be published? It sounds like something I'd be interested in reading. :3 And your strong research into history would be a good springboard for alternate-history fantasy. XD (I read and study into Regency and Victorian England, so I intend to do some steampunk/alternate-era stories set in that period. Though the novel I'm closest to finishing is a story of sword fighting, supernatural and revenge set in a fantasy combination of various Asian cultures.)

Lady Lucius 08-02-2009 07:56 AM

I don't know when it will be published, or even if, unfortunately. I actually haven't even gotten very far into writing it, yet. [blush] But the research is the tough part and that, at least, is complete.

It was probably the toughest job I ever had - there really isn't much information about Dacia out there, because the Romans pretty well smothered any and all memory of the kingdom (which they sacked for its rich gold mines, of course). But I absolutely fell in love with "Sarmesagetusa." I love the way it rolls off the tongue, lol.

Your stories sound fascinating, CK. I'd love to read Victorian Steampunk, lol. I always thought my research would help my fiction, and probably it HAS made it richer, but it also makes writing for pleasure more of a chore than it ought to be, because it's hard to take my mind out of the niche of grinding, endless research. Still, I've incorporated quite a little of what I know about edge-of-the-industrial-revolution England and America into my novel, to the betterment of the landscape if not the plot, and if nothing else, a sound knowledge of history makes it easy to come up with cool names for medieval or renaissance-style characters. :XD

Jeez, it's 3 AM here. Not exactly a late night by my standards, but I have to get up early; I have a weekend job at the local Goodwill store for extra spending green. You know how it goes. [blush] I was tired when I got HOME today, so I really should've gone to bed hours ago. Heh heh...

@Luzzy: There's a nifty historical concept in Rowlings' writing, when Lucius and Arthur Weasley get in their fight at Flourish and Blotts. Arthur, of course, shares the name of the legendary King of England, and Lucius shares the name of the Roman emperor who was, supposedly, defeated by Arthur. I almost wish she had taken that tangent to its ultimate conclusion, even though I certainly am glad my Lucy-baby survived the series. :D

CK 08-02-2009 08:15 AM

XD Yes - I know from experience how hard it is to gather the research. D: I'm still adding to my knowledge of Georgian-Victorian England (or just the world in general around that time) and Asian mythology/culture so I can add more authentic detail to those stories. :3 And I hope that they end up being fascinating. XD I enjoy writing them, anyway (when I have time D: ) and sometimes that's the important part. (Enjoying writing them doesn't sell anything, but it makes it feel less like work. ::laughs:: )

Anyway - I would be really very interested in reading the Dacia article(s)/book when (though I suppose "if", per your comment) it's published, though. :3 I mean it - if you get someone to pick it up, let me know so I can get a copy. XD

And I can see how doing all the research cuts into your ability to just write. XD Whenever I try to write outside of what I have a good basic knowledge of, and it's not pure fantasy, I always seem to get caught up in researching it. >_>;

Not late by my standards either - but if you're getting up early for work it is. XD Sleep well! (And I'm rather pleased that you seemed to enjoy playing here so much that you lost track of time. XD )

Hope to see you around the forums. ;3

iAm 08-02-2009 09:56 AM

Satirical Sword 08-02-2009 04:27 PM

bom chicka asantewaa 08-02-2009 04:36 PM

I'd love to say I've seen you somewhere 'round GAIA... but... I haven't.

That calls for some sadness, ha-ha.

Well, welcome! I'm surprised at how many GAIANs have swarmed here, I thought I'd be alone give or take, like, twelve people.

So... what sort of writing do you do? You come across as a fantasy writer, for some reason; my fantasy senses are... tingling? God, how lame. ... I'm looking to jump into writing myself sooner or later, but for now I'm concentrating on getting my art skills up to par, I plan on being a graphic novelist.

: DD

Mm.
