She wears mostly dark clothes, but sometimes fit in some neutral colour, such as green or blue. Bio: Izzy has being spoiled as child, but never taking against anything. It was quite a surprise when her mom got pregnant again - Izzy being 13. She usually calls her little sister a pain in the arse, but cares deeply deep inside. |
I walked along the pavement towards Izzy's house. I called for her every morning before school, I have for years. Its a sort of ritual I suppose. It is always what happens. Along with me brushing my teeth and eating my toast.
I rounded the corner and came into the neighbourhood where she lives. All these pretty houses with gardens and hedges and crazy paving paths. I love the first house on the left, its really pretty. A bright yellow front door, honeysuckle round it, a perfectly manicured hedge and grass always kept short and green and lush. I breathed in the lovely smell as I passed. Sometimes I caught a glimpse in the living room window, a young woman feeding a baby or ironing a shirt or two boys getting their bags on and play fighting. I thought about that house as I entred Izzy's garden. I opened teh gate and walked up the path. I stopped just at her ront door, rapped it smartly three times and then took a step back, waiting for her or her mum to answer. Once even her little sister did. I love her little sister, she is so cute, I sometimes wished I had one. But being the youngest has its charm. |
Taking out my tooth brush, I spitted out the toothpaste and washed my mouth. Opening the bathrooms door, I went into my room, dodging my hyper little sister on the way. Picking up my shoulder back, I went downstairs and greeted my mom. Hearing someone at the door, I nodded farewell to my parents, before going out in the hallway. Reaching for the doorknop, I got pushed away by small hands. "Me open door, me open door," chanted my little sister before jumping up and down to reach the knop.
Sighing and muttering a small 'such a drag' I lifted her up, so she could open the door, then I sat her down. Seeing Mia at the other side, she clasp her hands together. "Miaa!" She giggled and reached out to give her a hug. |
I smiled as I saw Izzy and her sister. I picked her up and twirled her round in a hug type thing and then set her back down. She was quite heavy for a three year old but I could still give her her favourite "twirly curly hug" as she calls it.
"Hiya you two! You ready to go Izzy?" I asked as I adjusted the straps of my bag and sorted my skirt, which was slowly riding up my legs as a result of the twirl. |
I stared a little at the... hug, then I nodded and went down the stairs. Letting, mercifully, my little sister hug my legs, I proceed walking out of the garden, letting Mia follow. Yawning slightly, I stared tiredly out on the building before me. I could mention a hundred thing I could be doing instead of going to school.
|
I followed Izzy out of her house and then walked to school by her side. I chatted away the whole time, about loads of things, school, Mrs Danter, the chopshop teacher with the wooden hand and the family with the bright yellow front door.
"I saw them agian this morning," I said as we went in the big metal school gates. "The mum was carrying the baby on her hip, the 10 year old was wiping the baby's nose and the olde one was putting on his bag. I like that older one. Do you know how old he is?" I always asked that about him. I thought he was amazing. Though he was fifteen. Practically a baby. If I went out with a fifteen year old I would be the laughing stick of my year. All the girls had older boyfriends, some twenty. As if by asking how old he was I could somehow make hime eighteen I would. Then I saw the poster. "Wow look Izzy! There is a boat trip for spring break, we have to put our names down if we want to go, do you fancy it?" I asked eagerly. |
Adjusting my bag a little, I listened with one ear. I never personally had interfered with the family, having my own to attend to. Answering her last question, even though I didn't have to, I simply stated the oblivious: "Fifteen."
I stared at the poster, then at Mia. "I suppose I could go," I answered weakly, not really liking boats and to sail. Actually I didn't really like outdoor activities. But she was so eager. |
"Yay! lets go to the office now and sign up befroe or the places are taken!" I said excited, grabbing her hand and pulling her happily through the double doors and into the school. I weaved expertly through the halls and towards the office. There was a sign up sheet on the wall and I grabbed the pen and wrote in my ittalic writing my name and Izzy's.
"There! We are first up on the list! I actually can't wait! Its next friday, a stay over trip in a tradional log cabbin! What fun eh?" |
Yay, a log cabbin, I thought sarcastac, these things stink of dirty, old suck and forest. Smiling softly at Mia, I quite enjoyed her entuatism, even though she just pulled me half through the school by her hand. Looking at the clock I let out a short, 'Oh', before I speaked: "We need to hurry."
Turning around in the direction of our classes, I began to hurry down the hallway. |
I quickly followed Izzy and we got into the classroom just as the bell rang. Mrs Cartson was at her desk doing attendance. She looked at me as I sat down at my desk. I smiled at her weakly and popped my bag on the floor.
"Why were you two late?" She said simply, in her usual dreary voice that can put people to sleep within minutes. "Well me and Izzy-" I began until Mrs Cartson interupted. "Izzy and I, is what I think you meant Miss Larrow. And I know no Izzy, I know you and Isabella." "Isabella and I were at the office signing up for the boat trip Miss," I finnished, flushing red to match my hair. I hate being corrected. "Really? I never thought you would go in for that," She said. "Is that right Isabella?" |
Turning my stare away from the window and over to Mrs Cartson, I just shrugged. Didn't feel like explaining myself in front of the whole class. Then I turned my eyes towards the window again.
Watching as the last pupils made their way into the school grounds - quite late. I listened with a half ear to the teacher, as Sophie's screaming pink dress caught my eyes. Shrunching my nose up in disgust at the sight of her over painted face, she caught me looking and send me a poisonous glance, making me roll my eyes. Sophie and I weren't what you would call best friends - in fact we hated eachother. It was all going back to elementary school, when we had kept getting in verbal fights - usually with me as the winner. Pulling her lips up in a soundless snarl, she quickly batted her long eyelashes, making me want to puke, when one of the boys in my row, turned and looked at us, feeling the tension. When he turned, her face turned into that of a snarl again, quite pathetic if you asked me. |
I lay back lazily in my chair. I was bored. School had officially started and the ominous dread and life sucking abilities of the teachers had set in. I pulled my Ipod out of my bag and plugged in an ear phone. I let my hair sweep over my ear so no-one could see and tuched the wires down my shirt. I let peoples voices wash over me and let the music take me over. I loved how they could sing so passionately about things that can destroy, kill, love and make a person all at the same time.
I kept an eye on the clock. Only ten minutes left of this dull announcement reading and then to science. How fun...... NOT. I tapped my foot slightly to the beat and looked around the classroom. Simple yet cluttered with random nick-knacks collected by the mad Mrs Cartson. How she could travel and live the life she has and be so boring I will never know. Of all the stories she told us she always seemed the fun out of control one. Then here she is the straight laced teacher redy to punce if you are two seconds late! |
I had been avoiding staring out of the window for about 5 minutes, because Sophie sitting in my way. Instead my eyes had been laying on a spot behind Mrs Cartson. Some guy in front of me were begin to talk with another guy beside him. Apparently they talked girls, so for the last 5-7 minutes I had gotten a list over who was the hottest, easiest and not to mention, who there had a bigger chest.
Rolling my eyes, when, you guessed it, Sophie got first on the easiest list, I nearly had commented it with a 'always', instead I found it pretty interesting that I was the last one. But still, it had turned pretty pathetic. Tapping my fingers on the table, I glanced at the clock and scowled slightly, when it hadn't changed much since last I checked. |
I sighed. Loudly. I didn't realise how loud until I saw everyone, including Mrs Cartson staring at me. I giggled sheepishly, she rolled her eyes, tapped her ears and then went back to speaking. It was amazing, she had no idea that no-one was looking/listening to her. There was the new girl sitting in front of me though. She was listening, with rapt attention, trying to get some advice on how to act like she has been here forever. I shook my head pittyingly and then pressed shuffle. My favourite song came on. I grinned and waggled my neck until the bell rang.
"Yay, finnaly the bell! I though it would never come. Come on Izzy, science." |
Tilting my head slightly I frowned dissaprovingly, when I heard their new talk - top 10 over girls they would like to snog. My left eye begin twitching uncontronable and I quickly averted my eyes somewhere else with a light scowl. Hearing the bell ring, I sighed content and rose, taking my shoulder bag and flung it over my shoulder.
Looking over at Mia, I send her a rare smile, before going over to her, sighing. "I hope we don't have to study frogs again." Even though I was pretty tough, examining frogs insides wasn't my favorite way to use school time. |
I grinned back at Izzy and then said "Yeah. That was totally gross! I swear I got a bit of frog gut up my finger nails when Sean pushen me and my hand went into that! It was disgusting!"
I shuddered thinking about that. my fist going straight into the guts of the frog! Eeew. I walked along the corridor happily. Thinking of the boat trip. I wonder who else will put there names down? I smiled to myself as I watched Ryan, the captain of the football team walk past with his friends. His girlfriend just chucked him, maybe i am in with a chance. "Hey Izzy? Do you think Ryan will ask me out now? He asked me to dance at the spring fling last week. Oooh. Do you think he is going on the boat trip!" I said excitedly. Once I was in boy-mode there was no getting me out. |
Flickering my black hair over my shoulder, because it was falling down in my face, I smiled shortly at the memory. I had gotten a girl as a partner, Sophie to be exact, and she had, while examing her nails, told me she wouldn't touch the frog. I had went along with because, well, I didn't exactly freak out over it.
Then again, one of the girls nearly fainted, before she left the classroom to go puke. She had also gotten one of the boys who decided to play tough and wave around with the open frog. Sitting next to us, some of the insides had been spraying out, it was really, really disgusting, and had landed in Sophies hair. I nearly sniggered at the thought of her freaking out, she hadn't talked to the boy in weeks. But oh, it was a really, really old line I sometimes used when we got into fights. Noticing Ryan I sent a flat stare at Mia, watching her mouth beggining to open. Shrugging at her question, I sent a short glance at his back. He was a bit too muscular and loud for my taste. But then again, all popular boys were loud and muscular. And they were, nearly, all jocks. "Y'know, he's nearly always busy with the football." Another trait I didn't like in my, if I got one, boyfriend: He should have time to me. But then again, I thought most of the boys in the school were childish. Relationships, in my eyes, were things that lasted a little more than 3 weeks. |
"True, but it would be nice if he did though."
We walked along the hall and up the staris to the second floor where science was. The halls were always jam-packed with students, all going in one direction and if you were the poor sap going the other way then you would get dragged along with the mob. I hated getting about the corridors at times like this. We squeezed through the double doors and I took a deep breath. "phew, I hate the crowds!" I said, patting my hair back into palce and sorting my bag strap. I walked along to the end of the hall and went inside the classroom. I sighed and went to the back, towards the desk where I sat at with Chloe. I never really spoke to Chloe. She may have the name of a designer label but there is nothing desinger about her. She is weird and quite, speaking to no-one but listening to everyone. She is short and round with big black framed glasses, thick straw like black hair and pale, pale skin. She is sort of goth/emo but also dork. Weird. The only up-side of siting next to her is that she is top of the class, so I never fail a test. I threw myself down on the chair, stored my bag under the desk and then looked at the front, waiting for class to begin. |
Nodding nearly unnoticeable, I took in some air, when we got into the corridors. I hated close packed places, that's why I never went to the mall, too many people. Glaring at people getting to close I strode confidently down the corridor until we reached the classroom. Stepping inside, I sighed inwardly.
Science were the only class, where I was sitting somewhat close to Sophie, we were partners infact. It usually ended up with me doing the work, while Sophie sent winks at the boys and checked her nails. That didn't bother me, the thing that bothered me greatly, was her comments. And the fact she used too much perfume. It was really bothersome. Navigating over to my seat, I sat down quietly and took out my books. Hearing Sophies loud, fake laughter from the doorway made me frown for a second, before I stared at the back of the boy before me's head. Tilting my head, I watched as some hair there stuck out swayed when he talked. It was pretty fascinating, hearing Sophie sitting down beside me, I turned and couldn't keep my little comment from myself. "Ready to study frogs Sophie?" Smirking uncharacteristacally at her, I watched as she visibly paled, before turning and lashing out a comment about my face. Shaking my head sadly I send it right back at her and our fight was started. |
I lounged back on my chair as Mr R came into the room. He was carrying a large carboard box, that looked heavy and was full to the brim. I loved Mr R. He was my favourite teacher by far! He liked pupils and loved it when they called him Mr R. He is originally from Poland so his real name is very hard to prinounce, its one of those ones that you have to think about before you say it. I have had him as a teacher the last two years so I am so used to his R that I can't actually remember what "R" actually is short for.
Mr R cleared his throat and took to the front of the class. He smiled at all of us and did a quick attendance, calling out names in his strong accent. I was surprised it hadn't become more American but it is still very forein sounding. I smiled and waved a hand up at him when he called my name. He went through the rest of the class and then picked up his box. "Now," he said. "In here I have you science project, in pairs you shall become parents!" We all looked at him as if he was mad, then he took the box round the classroom, placing a small box on each desk. Once every desk had a box he returned to the front and smiled. "Open the boxes now." The whole class did the grand unvailing at once, gasping when they saw the small egg within. He has painted little faces on them and given them clothes, they each had a name too. Mine and Chloe's egg was a boy. It was wearing a small blue cap and little blue shorts. Its name was Greg. Greg the egg. He had big googily eyes and a worried expression on his face. I giggled. "Now that you all have your projects here is what you have to do. You have to keep your egg "alive" for a week. That means it goes everywhere with you, home, to school, in classes. You will share the work with your partner, taking it in turns to look after it. If the egg is dropped or gets cracked or is vandalised then you fail. If the egg does not look like this next Friday you fail, simple as. Everyone clear?" He said happily. "Yes!" the whole class chorused and then laughed when Tom and ryan's egg fell on the ground after they played table football with it. "Fail!" Mr R joked, but gave them a new egg. I smiled. I liked this project. |
Hearing our assignment I groaned inwardly, Sophie would surely crack the egg herself so she didn't need to look after it. It was a pretty little 'girl', with a white sundress and a yellow strawhat. She had big blue eyes and a innocent smile at her lips. Her name? Kathy. A sweet name to a sweet egg.
Sending a glare at Sophie, we were still affected by our fight, I scowled slightly. Muttering a soft 'yea', I looked over at the Tom and Ryan's table, when I heard a crunch. Sighing and shaking my head at them, I looked out of the window. I was sure to fail this. Hopefully, Kathy would survive at least a week. Knowing Sophie it wouldn't be easy, patting Kathy mentally, I gave her a good luck wish in my head. Still, the whole 'parents' ordeal seemed quite funny. It was also pretty funny that Mr R had done so much out of making them ready. Glancing at the table beside my, I smiled at the soccer player guy they had gotten. Sophie turned towards me and begun mourning about how she just couldn't take the egg this week, because she had a busy schedule. Well, the parties she attended to wouldn't be fun for Kathy, that's for sure. The hosts were all rumored to be throwing wild parties where nearly all the people ended up drunk and doing something stupid. |
I looked at Chloe as she picked up Greg. She tossed him from hand to hand and then placed him carefully back on the desk. Mr R looked up from his desk and smiled, he then handed out a sheet of paper to each desk and said that we had to discuss our parenting schedules. I grabbed the paper and wrote "Mia is Greg's Mom." in my itallic script. Chloe sighed when she saw that. I shook my head and cradled Greg in my hands.
"Sorry but it had to be done. No-one would believe you were the mom Chloe. You just aren't feminine enough. Anyway, you can't be in charge of him. You'll drop him. Plus he is my egg!" I said huffily. I have always wanted a baby and now I have one! "We have to share the parental control! Its the assignment. But if you want to look after him on your own then it will be the easyest F ever," Chloe said simply staring at Greg. I glared at her. "I will look after him on my own and I will get the A and I will say that you never helped!" I said angrily. "You may as well just get off mine and Greg's desk!" Chloe sighed and took a book out of her bag and began to read. I gave her evils and silently promised greg i would show her. I would be the best mom ever to an egg. If people could be moms to eggs that is! |
I tapped my pencil annoyed on the desk. I had printed my name in the first column in the table I had drawed. Sophie couldn't the next day, making me roll my eyes. Apparently she had to use the whole day getting ready to some early beach party, they throwed at the beach. I couldn't see why she would need to get ready so much to a party, where you should bathe. It was just throwing some clothes over your two-piece for good sake. But still, I wouldn't want Kathy to float away with the stream.
Writing my name in the next column, I turned to find Sophie sending sweet eyes to another of the boys, I took a quick look, apparently she had something going on with Ryan. Shaking my head I tapped her at the shoulder making her turn her head with a hissed 'what'. I sighed again, before I coldly asked her:"What about Wednesday?" She just rolled her eyes. "Wednesday is the day I go shopping with my girlfriends, duh!" She made a little are-you-stupid-face, which actually got her to look like some kind of frog, funny enough. Massaging my temples slightly, I looked icy at her. "Listen up blondie, there's no way, I'll let you take credit for something I have done!" Meeting her unbelieveable stare with a heated glare, we ended up in a glaring contest. I would have won, I'm sure, if it hadn't got interrupted when Ryan throwed something on Sophie's head, making her turn and glare at him. Then she picked up the paper, before going all teary-eyed. "Aww, he's so sweet." I stared at the written part, before snatching it and ripping it to small pieces. "Sorry, loverboy must wait. That day are you taking care of Kathy." Taking the pencil I wrote down her name on the last four places. Ignoring her small 'b-but', I turned and send her a devilish glare with fire blazing in my eyes. "If I find out Kathy is cracked, I wouldn't like to be you." My voice came out in small, snorting whispers, making Sophie look bigeyed at me. Then she nodded. I broke out in a smile, but my eyes held her a little longer. "Wonderful!" I said happily. |
Chloe read her book for the rest of the lesson while I listened to my Ipod, putting and earphone towards Greg so he could bop along to the music too. I kept glancing at all the other eggs in the class, so cute, and then I looked at Greg, with his tiny eyes and squigily mouth. I sighed. I guess this is what real parents feel when they realise their babies are ugly or dorky. I looked at Chloe.
"I bet your mom feels how I feel now." She looked up at me and grinned. "Yeah? You feel proud? My mom said I was the best thing to happen to her!" She said happily, smiling at me. I wanted to tell her that really I meant disappointment, sadness, anger at the kid for being an ugly dork but she looked so happy I just smiled and nodded too. She put her book away and then looked at me. "I think you and me are getting closer aren't we Mia? Are you going on the boat trip? Maybe I should sign up too, we could get even closer than we are now!" Chloe burbled excitedly. I had tp stop this here. The bell rang so as Mr R shouted to everyone to remember their eggs I spoke quickly to chloe, throwing on my bag and then grabbing Greg. "No sorry, gotta go meet Izzy!" I then ran down to the door and met up with Izzy outside. "Urgh. I am a single mom. What do we have next?" I said as we began to walk along the hall. |
