"try" she looked at him, "Please?"
Athilea entered the inn slowly. Bright green eyes viewed the occupants of the room slowly. After a time she moved to one of the remaining empty table and sits down.
Leonard sighed, and took a deep breath. "Three years ago I offered my services to him as a bodyguard under the condition that he help me find my brother, who was missing at the time. Unfortunately, the both of them were escaped convicts and if I let either of them out of my sight, all three of us would end up in prison, so we had to move to another town and lie low. One thing led to another, and we ended up in the middle of a plot to take down a brainwashing cult. After that was done, the people who were chasing us found us, and threw us in jail. I don't remember how we got out. I was... in a mood, you might say, and the events of my last few days of imprisonment are sort of a blur. Next thing I know, I'm waking up in a pile of rubble." He shrugged. "So I need to find him so he can tell me what happened." He took a sip of his coffee. "Also, he owes me three months rent."
Aww.... you didn't even mention me... how rude of you, Leonard. How rude. |
Paige stares at leonard, "you lead a dangerous life my friend" she sighed.Paiges lime green eyes looked at the new comer, her cat ears twitched and her tail swished curiously
"I keep dangerous company," he replied. He looked at the new attendee of the bar. "I suppose today is not so slow after all," he said, feeling much better after having some caffeine in his system. Unfortunately, he was not the only one awake now. He ignored the voice in his head for now, he would address it later.
He waved to the new person. |
Paige looked around absent mindedly she scratched at the table top.
Leonard looked back down at the newspaper, circled the number "35" in an article approximating the percent profit expected from exported grain products this quarter. "In any case, it'll be a challenge trying to find a thief as sly as Mister Wight. He likes to stay hidden."
"im sure youll be able to do it" she smiled at him kindly.
"Oh, I'm going to do it," he said, eyes suddenly growing dark. "I'm determined to find him." He circled a few more words on the paper.
"Because... you know... he owes me for rent." |
"theres something your not telling me" her claws dug into the table. 'why wont he tell me?' she thought
"What," he said, circling the word "elbow." "You can't expect me to give you all the information up front." Something about his voice smiled. "After all, we've only just met."
"i suppose your right" paige pulled her claws but one out of the table, "great my claws stuck in the table"
Leonard put a hand to the bartop where her claws were stuck, and the wood began to become soft, as if becoming rot. Then, he put his hand to hers and pulled one of her claws from the soft, rotting wood.
Paige looked at him, "thank you! but uh how did you do that?"
"You saw me last night, didn't you? I am a Fallen Star. Wood was once a plant, and just as easily as I can bring something to life," he said, putting his hand back on the bartop. The wood stiffened again, though a dent in the wood showed where the rot had damaged. "I can kill it."
Paiges eyes widened, "that is cool"
"Yeah... cool," he said half-heartedly. "It has its uses, but it isn't without its downfalls. Especially in small towns like these." He sighed.
Paige tipped her head but didnt ask further questions, she lashed her tail. her tail hit something and landed on her tail, screeching she jumped up "OWWW!!!"
Leonard jumped up at the sound. All the coffee had done for his paranoia was give him the energy to be more effectively so. "What just happened?"
"something landed on my tail" paige wimpered.
"Well," he said, looking around for what it might be. "What was it?"
"how should i know!" paige looked at her tail "uhh...i found it" a knife had fallen and lodged itself into her tail
Leonard's eyes widened and he furrowed a thick eyebrow. "How did that get there?"
"i dont know but it HURTS!" paige wailed again.
"It would hurt less if you stopped squirming," he said. "Hold still, I'll see if I can get it out." He tried to lay her tail out straight so he could see where the knife had hit. Odd for it to have missed all the fur and gone straight to the bone and flesh of it. You make the weirdest friends... "Quiet, you," he mumbled. "This is going to sting," he warned just before he pulled the knife out.
